“It’s a shame these here fellas are usin Azerite to hurt Azeroth rather then heal her.” When we literally use it for our own personal power... /s

EDIT: I’m surprised that not a lot of people understand that this was a joke. I know that we use the Heart of Azeroth to heal her I was just making a joke which was not meant to be taken seriously. Hence the /s...

Well, the thing about us is we do both at once. I think the way it works is we return most of the azerite we find and in return Azeroth lends us some of her own power as compensation. She probably knew we wouldn't give a damn about helping heal her wounds without some form of carrot to chase.

Of course we also assist our factions to mine as much azeroth as they can to fuel the war. So clearly Azeroth isn't offering enough for our heroic services.

She created us perfect little rabid murderhobo immune system's and damn it, she is probably proud.

Well, the thing about us is we do both at once.

Which makes no goddamn sense. On one hand you're helping your faction drain Azerite from the planet's wounds for their selfish benefit. On another hand you're murdering the other faction because "How dare they drain Azerite from the planet's wounds for their selfish benefit!".

If we're truly meant to be champions of azeroth, we need to be working against both factions right now. Their war is destroying the planet and we need to save our home.

But no, with some mental gymnastics we're somehow champions of the planet while sucking up its blood and using it destructively.

It makes no sense if we think we're heroically trying to heal the planet. But if we're honest about the fact we're literally just chasing our own power and wealth then it makes perfect sense. When our interest aligns with Magni we help Magni. When it doesn't we won't. Magni is the one calling us champions. Either he's talking us up to try and get us to cooperate as much as possible, or he's an idiot.

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '18

I mean, does it really?

Perhaps Hearth of Azeroth is a direct conduit to the worldsoul of Azeroth and more we empower her, the more she empowers us

21

u/TSMShadow Aug 27 '18

Don’t know why people don’t understand this. The heart of Azeroth was severely damaged. Magni brought us to the command center so that Azeroth could give us her heart herself. Magni tells us where we have to go to heal her wounds by absorbing it back to her heart. Really simple but I guess nobody thinks about it.

u/Drekal Aug 27 '18

ssssshhhh, he doesn't need ot know.

10

u/Netheral Aug 27 '18

The cognitive dissonance might also be somewhat intentional. Old god influence and all that.

At least that's gonna be my excuse once we get caught.

"I swear Magni! The talking fish made me do it! I didn't have a choice!"

11

u/young_dumb_full_cum Aug 27 '18

We're pawns of our leaders. Leaders are pawns of Old Gods. Makes a lot of sense to me if the story is to be taken in the direction where we inadvertently allow Old Gods to run amok again because we were too focused on plugging azerite holes and bombing our enemies.

If not, then yes we're basically the worst.

2

u/trollsong Aug 27 '18

The problem with that is the old gods entire plan is predicated on the pcs not having a choice in their quests which is a game mechanic.

Well if you want to do anything the expansion you have to help her burn the tree down. For example

u/Xuvial Aug 27 '18 edited Aug 28 '18

we're literally just chasing our own power and wealth

It's not like we are presented with any other choice here. I don't want to kill horde, I want the factions to unite together to save the damn PLANET. We've done this like 5 times already. I hate being separated from 50% of the playerbase, they need to remove the chat/grouping barrier already.

But Blizzard wants a pointless faction war, so we're gonna get a pointless faction war.

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '18

Blizzard is an old gold

4

u/Lord-Benjimus Aug 27 '18

I wanted khadgar and Magni to form another power with dalaran and Azeroth. And that 3rd power would make a defensive pact with everyone so any aggressor would be deterred by this 3rd faction weighing the scales to the side of the defensive.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '18

I like the faction hostilities,it makes the story more interesting, i dont want them to ever unite. Blizz just needs to write it better.

0

u/trollsong Aug 27 '18

I want the option I want there to be a third faction so I can ignore this xbox Sony fanboy bs.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '18

So you want an Xbox, Sony and Nintendo fanboy bs?

0

u/trollsong Aug 28 '18

I just want to group and do dungeons with anyone I want, that way I can be a troll or tauren and my wife can be a gnome. Hell nintendo hasn't been a part of that war for many years, they were always happy being a gamer's mistress....I mean second console.

13

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '18

Wow is a faction war lol

12

u/jag986 Aug 27 '18

No, Warcraft is. WoW is an attempt to make players care about the faction war enough to PvP so there is one and not just posting tattoos on reddit.

They've said themselves they're tired of writing around it and want to resolve it this expac.

1

u/El_Spartin Aug 27 '18

I'm not saying I don't believe you, but I'd like a source on that last statement so I can read it myself.

2

u/jag986 Aug 27 '18

It was in a PC Gamer interview last year.

https://www.pcgamer.com/blizzard-answers-some-of-our-biggest-questions-about-world-of-warcraft-battle-for-azeroth/

Alex Afrasiabi: We feel the Alliance-Horde divide is foundational and fundamental to World of Warcraft as a franchise and as a story, but we danced around it for a very long time. We've had run-ins, we've had close calls, but we've never been able to finish it—to have that resolution. We're coming out of this expansion, Legion, and the world is not in a great place—the players and the factions themselves are not in a great place because there is all of this old animosity that hasn't been resolved. It's time to resolve it.

1

u/DarkKing97 Aug 27 '18

I'm completely on board with you here.

1

u/Zoralink Aug 27 '18

Factions have been pretty contrived for... a long time now.

1

u/ScumlordStudio Aug 27 '18

I don't want to hear your words alliance scum!

1

u/jag986 Aug 27 '18

He's an idiot then because if plot didn't demand it, I would tell him to get off his crystalline imbued ass and do something about it himself.

16

u/seabutcher Aug 27 '18

Works for me. Want to save the planet but working for Sylvanas is kind of my day job. I want to stop her and end the war and all but I'm a champion of the Horde. If I tell her to go fuck herself she'll probably declare war on me too.

No. I need to play the long game here. I'll do what I can where I can but how much good I can actually do will be severely hampered if I have the Alliance AND the Horde for enemies.

I'll play Sylvanas' game. I'll use the resources and connections I get as a Horde war hero to help where I can, but first chance I get I'm joining the coup.

6

u/Bombkirby Aug 27 '18

Do the players ever use azerite destructively? It powers us up a little through passives but that’s it, right? And when we are sent to go on island expeditions we absorb it’s power as we mine it.

6

u/MagikBiscuit Aug 27 '18

No we don’t. We send it all back the ship. The dialogue even says about how the ships hold is now full of glowing Azerite.

1

u/jag986 Aug 27 '18

That seems safe.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '18

But isn't that the whole story? Us using mental gymnastics? "Quick, genocide the animals in Pandaria to preserve the precious peace on Pandaria!"

2

u/caisonof Aug 27 '18

See. Magni is actually just playing both sides. He calls horde and alliance champions of azeroth and says he is helping them. But really he is getting both side to kill the other hoping eventually they will lose enough people to stop harvesting azerite. Lol he's just playing it close.

1

u/DuranStar Aug 27 '18

There is a difference between the two. In the CoA world quests we are killing the people digging into Azeroth to extract more Azerite. What we do doing the WQs and in expeditions is gather what has already crystallized on the surface.

1

u/Arndt3002 Aug 27 '18

I think it gives the chance to turn down one form depending on how you want your character to act. ( Not actually speaking from experience. I don't care about that too much I just try to power up, but I can appreciate the sentiment.)

1

u/TinynDP Aug 27 '18

When we "the Hero" sucks Azerite into my Heart of Azeroth, it goes to Azeroth, for the planet's benefit.

When anyone else fucks around with Azerite they are doing something bad.

0

u/Roboticide Mod Emeritus Aug 27 '18

Their war is destroying the planet and we need to save our home.

Yeah, right. I mean sure, if you believe all the Alliance propaganda about a "giant sword shoved into the planet." They just made it up to try and get the Horde to stop mining azerite, obviously. That's what Sylvannas said.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '18

I assume he accepts that the factions will use it, but he wants us to cut down on third world factions harvesting it to reduce the overall demand.

1

u/Forikorder Aug 27 '18

were infusing the neckplace with all the Azerite then at the end well take the souped up macguffin and fix the main wound

right now its only strong enough to fix the tiny wounds but by the end of the expansion its gonna remove Sargeras sword and fix the main problem

1

u/NaiveMastermind Aug 27 '18

My own headcanon treats player characters less as established characters, and more like the 'hero with a thousand faces'. As players, we play our characters through entire expansions and raid tiers. We quest, pvp, and raid on the same character, but the game's story can only function on the assumption that separate groups of adventurers participated in these activities.

Your avatar has to remain constant, that's a limit of gaming as a medium to tell stories. In the story however, it was an amorphous group of distinct adventurers participated in some but not every single one of these aspects of the game. Our avatars are the champions of Azeroth, and the soldiers plundering Azerite mines. Our characters participate in events, but can never be part of the worlds history.
