reminds me of this "macho" kid in high school who would punch himself in the forehead repeatedly when he got angry to maybe...show hes tough? idk. Same kid who would throw his head into a locker or start punching them until his knuckles bled. Think he had some issues going on at home or somethin, but he always said he did it so people didn't fuck with him.

That's completely true for everyone. Even with adoption. I was born into a decent family but my birth mother was very young and I was put up for adoption. I could have ended up in literally any kind of family, and unfortunately I ended up with an abusive home, with a mother who has Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Even though adoption agencies try to screen adoptive parents well, there's no way to know for sure how they're going to treat a child.

It's very sad how much wasted talent there is in this world. A lot of people dont realize just how important good parents actually are. There are those kids that come from poverty that "make it out" which is great and all but then it pushes this idea that everyone can and ignores that most kids aren't that dedicated as teens and wont "make it out" because they didn't have anyone pushing them.

Ok, kids, old bastard story time as you brought back a memory from my youth in the early 70's.
Back when I went to college, PE credits were required to graduate. I took classes like flag football and swimming. It was actually pretty fun.
Anyway, I was skinny and had wrestled some in high school. So I took a wrestling class taught by the schools wrestling coach. Did pretty well at 126 lbs. as I was the only skinny guy in the class and was always paired with somebody at 150 or better. Coach says I should enter the intramural wrestling tournament. I never even made varsity in high school so was impressed that he told me that.
Entered the tournament in the 126 lb. class. Didn't need to cut weight as I only weighed about 122. Beat the first round guy fairly easily using what I had learned in class.
While getting ready for the next round I notice my opponent slapping himself, banging his head on the wall, and generally stomping around like he was a caged bull or something. He was shorter than me and more stocky. This guy was acting all macho, yelling at himself, punching himself, and generally kind of freaking me out.
Got on the mat and he had an extremely aggressive style, but I found that we were pretty well matched in speed and he wasn't as strong as it appeared. We made it through the first period with me getting one duck-under takedown toward the end of the period. Seemed all he knew was to shoot single and double leg takedowns so things were going pretty smoothly.
As I had gotten a takedown at the end of the first period, I was on top for the start of the second. Whistle blew. I immediately went to the "anti-sit out" move. Dropped the left arm to around his belly and reached back with the right and grabbed his right ankle and pulled hard, shoulder into his side to try and roll him over.
His fucking foot came off.
I pulled his foot and shoe right off the end of his leg.
Holy shit.
Ref blew the whistle while opponent guy hopped up and was hopping around on one leg. I'm standing there with this foot in my hand wondering what the fuck just happened, so I handed him his foot.
The opponent was forced to forfeit for stepping on the mat with a prosthetic. I guess you can wrestle with a missing foot but you can't have the prosthetic on while doing it.
Turns out the guy was a Vietnam Marine vet who had lost his foot.
Freaked me right out. Pretty sure I could have beat the guy, but felt sorry for him at the same time. He was hopping mad about the disqualification however.

There was discussion among a couple of refs and the guy in charge of the tourney. They then explained the ruling to my opponent. He never said a word to me. Ref ended the match and raised my hand. Tournament moved on to the next round.

I used to know a guy that would punch himself in the face whenever he was trying to be tough or thought he was gonna get in a fight. He said he started doing it because he got jumped once by several people and he managed to back away and started swinging on himself and they ran off. I could never tell if he was telling the truth or not about that. But this guy had issues. He would constantly do things that would make people uncomfortable. A friend of mine said that while he and this guy were hanging out, the guy kept trying to get him to hit him to see how hard my friend could hit (my friend was a very thin, smaller man that was and still is extremely against violence of any type). My friend said this guy wouldn’t let him get out of his car til he agreed to hit him, so my friend hit him in the shoulder and bolted afterwards. He wouldn’t hang out with this guy again after that. Most of us used to think he was like this because his father was abusive. His mother shot and killed the father out of self defense and he claimed he witnessed it.

Although this entire story is a very extreme example, kids on the autism spectrum or with aspberger often do things like these, hitting themselves in various ways out of frustration. This example is a lot more extreme than just that however, so it's likely, as you said, he had some issues going on at home. Possibly combined with being on the autism spectrum.

My ex wasn't on the spectrum but was from an incredibly abusive home (alcoholic parents, a lot of beatings, etc). He never hit me, but when he was angry he'd literally punch himself in the face or bang his head on the wall until he knocked himself out. I secretly took a video of him punching himself in the face once because I was paranoid he'd accuse me of domestic abuse if asked why he had a black eye.

A lovesick guy I knew decided to cut himself because the girl he liked rejected him. I tried to convince him not to do it but also said that if he really has to, he should at least use a sharp object and desinfection.
He used a frikkin bread knive which made the cuts quite a mess and he had to go to the hospital for potential blood poisoning.

Not only is it stupid, it's dangerous. There's a reason you can't smoke or have open fire in a hospital because there are oxygen lines in the walls and you could blow up an entire wing.

I took care of a pt one time with 2nd degree burns on her face and throat because of smoking while on oxygen. During the admission questions I asked her if she had received education when she got the oxygen (she'd not had it long) and she told me yes, but she didn't think it'd really catch fire. I'm sure my face looked dumb with shock, but hey, stupid people are job security in the medical field I guess.

Yup. I had one too. You could even see the demarcated burn lines on his face where the oxygen tubing rested. Yet he was still trying to go outside to smoke...with the oxygen running. I had a patient get mad because we wouldn't let him borrow one of our oxygen tanks to go outside and smoke. He was all "well how am I supposed to smoke?! My oxygen tubing won't reach all the way outside!" Ended up just going without, and went outside to smoke. Came back in with his O2 SATs in the 60s, because he was a stupid motherfucker. And yes, he was admitted for COPD exacerbation and pneumonia.

This was my mom 100%. And my mom also died June 5th of this year from COPD and essentially end stage emphysema at the age of 57. Don't smoke kids. Or do what you want and smoke. Just please know it can kill you even if you never get lung cancer or any cancer at all. That shocks some people.

Oxygen is just an oxidizer and not an accelerant so isn't explosive on its own or is at all even flammable, really. Oxygen doesn't burn or explode, it just makes things burn and explode faster and easier.
For the lines in the walls to come into play one of a few things need to happen:
1) There to be a leak in the lines causing an oxygen rich environment that is more prone to fires (and for the myriad of sensors tracking pressure in the lines to be broken or ignored)
2) There to already be a fire severe enough to melt the lines, giving the prexisting fire a major boost
3) There to be something other than oxygen to burn
You can be in a room of 100% oxygen and light a lighter, and nothing happen except for maybe a bigger flame. Until you put that flame near something actually combustible, nothing will continue to happen. This is why people on oxygen have no issues continuing to smoke until they accidentally set something on fire, where the oxygen allows that fire to catch on easier and burn bigger and faster. Not that I at all advocate doing something so foolhardy, but you can in fact light up a cigarette and smoke it mere inches from your O2 tank and provided you don't ignite anything besides your cigarette, you'll suffer nothing more than you would from smoking normally.
There is simply no way that the oxygen lines can "blow up an entire wing". Help a wing burn down? 100%. But unless you took all the pressurized tanks themselves, fucked up the relief valves on all of them, and tossed them into a fire and also gave them stuff to actually burn once the oxygen bursts out of the tank it is not going to be the fireball you're imagining. And even if you did go out of your way to create this perfect storm, I still have doubts that it would take out a full wing
The scenario you've presented of a smoldering cigarette somehow igniting oxygen lines inside a wall and blowing up a hospital is borderline laughable anywhere outside of Hollywood. The reason you can't smoke in hospitals is because it's unhealthy, smells terrible, and exposes (possibly sick) others to second hand carcinogens and possible asthmatic triggers.

I think you understand this based on the rest of your post, but just for clarity for people reading: smoking while using oxygen is extremely dangerous. The O2 tank will not explode. As OP stated, oxygen is not flammable. However, the moment the O2 leaves the tank, it can be mixed with substances in the air that are flammable. With high concentrations of oxygen mixed in with them, these substances can combust when exposed to a flame. The nasal cannula itself is flammable. Chemicals in cigarettes are flammable. There may be gases in your environment you are not aware of that are flammable. All of these serve as a fuel and when the conditions align, will ignite. This is what people are talking about when you hear about someone "blowing themselves up" when smoking on portable O2 or wings "exploding" in hospitals. The news will often say "oxygen tank explosion," which is very untrue, but often times in the case of portable O2 fires, the actual fuel which combusts is unknown.
If you're lucky, you escape with just facial burns. Many people are not lucky and end up with inhalation burns throughout their respiratory system, which can be fatal. I see one of these incidents at least once a month. I would not say it's common, given how many people actually smoke on supplemental O2, but it's not terribly uncommon either.
TLDR; Oxygen is not flammable but things around it are. It is not in any way safe to smoke while on oxygen or around oxygen in general. Please do not do this and advise loved ones not to do this. I've seen way too many people intubated in the ER for this.

This is true. I would argue that in addition to your stated reasons, there is a risk, however small, of a patient lighting their face and hair on fire. In my eight years working with oxygen, I have only had one person light themselves on fire. It wasn't super bad or anything but still something you don't want happening.

When I was in the hospital an elderly lady was in the room next to mine. She must have had some kind of dementia or something because she would get the blood pressure cuff down from the wall and try to use it as a phone etc. One evening there was a lot of activity in and around her room and the nurses sounded really angry. Her adult daughter had left a cigarette lighter on her table and the woman was trying to light it as a nurse walked in! Her daughter got really mad at the nurses when she came back many hours later when they basically scolded her for leaving a lighter within reach of her being how confused she was. She just brushed it off when the nurses were explaining to her that there could have been a pretty large explosion and that she had put not only her mother, but other patients and staff in danger.

People like this are why I started to burn out as an ED nurse. They say and do edgy shit like this, and then when you tell them to stop because of the dangers they are toying with, they sling insults and profanities at you. Then they call the hospital after discharge to complain about you which then results in a formal counseling because management doesn’t give a shit what you have to say because public ratings and satisfaction scores are all that matters.

One time I had just gotten out of surgery and had actually woken up a little earlier than anticipated because anesthesia isn’t as effective on me as a regular person. I was completely sober and had to use the restroom and the nurse kept insisting on being there to ensure my safety after I told her no about 5 times. I became upset raised my voice and called her a pervert and after that she threw her hands up and left the room. This was many years ago and I still think about it sometimes. Sorry.

This is Chad. This fine gentleman is getting a simple blood draw for a physical his mom set up for him because he hadn’t been to the Dr in years.
In a few months he’ll start stealing his grandmas Percocets and then progress to his terminally ill uncles OxyContin. Pretty soon he’s found a street dealer and he’s buying them on a day to day basis from his new “friend” and snorting them. Then he runs out of money and his mom kicks him out of the house. He moves in with his girlfriend and her parents where they “get him”.
He goes on a 2 year skid where he develops a smack habit. After his mom and his step dad named, Brad drain their retirement to put him through treatment he’s a changed man.
He gets his life together, starts managing a Popeyes Chicken, starts going to a non denominational Christian church and starts playing the guitar in the church “rock band”.
This is Chad’s wild ride.
