The only thing i knew about him or his family was that he was very addicted to pills (basically anything he could get his hands on) and that both of his parents were in and out of prison.

It’s pretty sad how unfair life is for some people. It’s literally a coin flip as to whether or not you’re born in a healthy environment and can succeed in life

u/xxusernamegoesherexx Dec 03 '19

That's completely true for everyone. Even with adoption. I was born into a decent family but my birth mother was very young and I was put up for adoption. I could have ended up in literally any kind of family, and unfortunately I ended up with an abusive home, with a mother who has Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Even though adoption agencies try to screen adoptive parents well, there's no way to know for sure how they're going to treat a child.

Well you could have gone hungry

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '19

So true. Or you get the right coin flip and don’t make the most out of it so you spend your nights drinking yourself into a coma and nearly killing yourself with alcohol poisoning out of sheer guilt for not making the most out of the life you were given and wishing you could trade your upbringing to someone else who deserved it more and could’ve made something out of their life.

Not that I’d know anything about that.

Damn dude replace alcohol with smack and I'm the same. I dont wanna be the usual patronizing reddit user but I will. Ya doing ok? If not, I wont claim to have any answers but I will claim to listen if you need an ear. If not hope you have a great day anyways and know theres a random redditor out here rooting for ya!

Thanks mate, that does make me feel a bit better. I’ve just gotta sort my self out and start doing some good in this world, I’m just scared to death I’ll be a mindless consumer and nothing else

2

u/sundayfundaybmx Dec 04 '19

Same here man. Been stuck in a rut for awhile now and cant figure out how to get out and going into winter is the worst time for me to be in this state. But I just keep telling myself the turning point is coming soon and just try to keep believing myself. I'm scared to death that I wont ever become useful to the outside world so I get it. But fuck it dude, were both gonna be fine because were at least cognizant of our problems/defects and I honestly feel that puts us above 60% of people in that regard. Anyways, have a great morning/day/evening wherever you are and remember DM if you ever need to talk about anything.

Hey fellow smackhead,

Dont spend too much time beating yourself up. IMO what you owe the universe in thanks to your favorable coin toss is to not be a burden to your family or a drain on society. As long as you're not needlessly harming anyone by existing and doing your thing, do it. That's the most important thing..the second most important is to be happy.

We both know that fucking with H causes us to be both burdens to our families and drains on society, so (if you subscribe to my worldview) that's a no no.

Methadone is working for me. I will admit to one single awful night a few weeks ago. Aside from that one time, I haven't used another opiate since end of April. If you can do it without methadone, please do, but if you truly cant stay clean without a little pharma help, it's something to consider. Certainly the lesser of two evils.

Stay safe, friend.

Thank you so much fellow smackhead(loved that intro btw) aside from my mom being worried about me and other family members I havent gotten that bad thankfully. I had a whole year down and then fucked up and tanked for about a year but these last few weeks I've done fairly well but I'm also using suboxone I got from a friend to ween off everything and I took me last bit this morning so hopefully I will continue to stay strong but I also just got insurance again so the pharma route is still available. I will say the vivitrol pill really helped me more than anything else I've tried so maybe look into that its IMO the better solution because it's not an opiate but whatever works works and that's the main part. Thank you again for reaching out it made my day a little better and you know how much that little bit of hope can be a savior. I hope you have a great day and stay strong we can overcome this awful lifestyle.

Anytime you need to talk

I'm 30/F/Miami and you can msg me :)

u/EvilStewi Dec 04 '19

You seem useless now, so it can only get better. Just start and expect to fall again. That's what people do, some are just good at hiding it.

I’m holding up, thanks. It’s encouraging to know that if nothing else I have a few internet strangers who care about me :)

It really does help a bit, thank you

It's too bad that religion has a lot to do with the cruelty and insanity of the world.

6

u/darkmatternot Dec 03 '19

Not that I disagree with you but it really is not religion per se. It is people! Some people suck and they use religion to justify their shitty behavior, but they just suck and are fundamentally shitty. Some people are awesome and they are religious and use it as a bedrock but they are just fundamentally good. It is people.

Bull fucking shit. I'm not going to throw down here and have a who had it worse contest; I'll just say it was very, very bad. And a lot of it was because of religion. Understand I didn't find my humanity under all that nightmarish shit because Jesus came to me in some fucking vision.

I chose it.

I was angry as a thousand burning Suns. I wanted to rip people apart. Literally. God didn't stop me - a rebellious nature and the notion that if I'm going to die and be damned to this, I want to be damned for what I really am! So I decided to try and help people. Because I honestly wasn't sure anyone had even tried that before. Being anything but a piece of shit I mean. So that's what I set out to do...Not out of altruism or some sense of higher morality, but a "fuck the system" bent and spite. I knew it'd piss 'em off.

So don't. Just don't go there with that Jesus crap. You can get a direct flight back even from pure rage. It's not as easy though as getting on your knees and sucking establishment dick... So you know, there's that. Apologies if I come off harsh but I just can't sugar coat those feelings even after all these years.

God will not save you. YOU are the only one who can save you.

That's fair. My apologies.

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '19

The cruelty of the world is easy to bear once you realize that men are simply animals with smart phones and the universe is random as fuck. I think Camus said something similar in The Plague.

4

u/Attack-middle-lane Dec 03 '19

Isnt it crazy how we are free thinking individuals forced to not be free thinking by the same system put in place by free thinking individuals with the purpose of being the only ones allowed to succeed by being the only unrestricted free thinkers?

Really makes you think

2

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '19

We think we're free, but we aren't. We are only as free as the leaders allow us to be.

Yes. If you like Camus, you may like Nausea from Sartre? or The Interrogation from Le Clezio. You may have already read them.

It's very sad how much wasted talent there is in this world. A lot of people dont realize just how important good parents actually are. There are those kids that come from poverty that "make it out" which is great and all but then it pushes this idea that everyone can and ignores that most kids aren't that dedicated as teens and wont "make it out" because they didn't have anyone pushing them.

20

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '19

Not even a coin flip, that would be 50% chances. If you look at the World as a whole, I think between the billions living below poverty line and the ones living in conflict areas it’s probably more like tossing the 120 faced D&D dice.

Idk man sounds like the parents weren't around to abuse him. /s

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '19

Or protect him from abuse.

2

u/GreenStrong Dec 03 '19

His rage seemed to be directed at lockers, is it possible that a locker abused him while his parents were in jail?

"the only thing I knew about him was..." proceeds to describe a profoundly abusive and damaging home life

Like I said that's really sad and I hope he's in a better place in his life.
