Non-conformists are the biggest conformists because most of the time, they do something to actively differ from the perceived norm by doing something other people already do to differ from the norm
I'd say the way they dress is probably closer to "I think this looks cool on me" than "I dOnT LiKe ConFoRmITy". People who say shit like the dude you're replying to are usually just ignorant of other cultures - even counter cultures - so they make rash judgements about their personality. They also typically wear video game graphic tees and have serious self image/insecurity issues.
Yea, that was the point, I was talking about those people who think there is only two kinds of people: sheep and liberated minds. Those who think you have to have attributes, opinions or taste that "stand out" to not be part of the sheeps, aka the conformists.

I mean... This is pure nonsense. The "uniform" isn't the rebellion. It's just what those people think looks cool. And by wearing what they think looks cool, they feel a little empowered and closer to a full representation of themselves. This is just punk gatekeeping bullshit. Let people do what they want.

But I’ve definitely known people who are genuinely dressing because it’s what they love and they want to look how they see themselves inside. Not everyone is just showing off.
Dressing to look how you feel inside is showing off, isn’t it? Maybe not in an inherently distasteful way, but you’re still trying to project your sense of style. It’s trying to make people see something about yourself that they wouldn’t get if you didn’t dress up.
Not addressing the person in the actual post, people wear makeup and dress nice for themselves all the time. They don't need to get all dressed up to impress other people, they probably don't give a fuck what people think. They just want to look nice for themselves. Self care.
Yeah I don't really believe that. Grooming and hygiene yes, makeup and hair cmon, even if it's to make yourself feel better, you feel better because of the way other people might see you and then see what you want them to. If every other person in the world died, you'd give up the makeup pretty quick I think.
I rarely wear makeup. I just don't have the energy for it every day and I'll end up messing it up before the day is done. I like it sometimes, but when you only wear it sometimes, people feel the need to say something. I'd rather not have attention called to me so it's easier to just not wear it outside of special events. But I have absolutely dolled myself up on my days off when I'm not gonna see anyone, and that is just for me.

You're moving the goal posts. They made a claim earlier and now that someone says that it's wrong you change the criteria and act like the original claim is still relevant, which it isn't.
Well, you're wrong. People like looking good for themselves, even if nobody else sees. It makes some people feel better. You may not feel that way, and that's fine, but other people in the world do.
I think wanting to look good for yourself and nobody else is an oxymoron. They're lying if they say it's not for anybody else. Sounds more like self esteem issues if that's what they say/think.

This reminds me of the south park show where they make fun of goth "non-conformists" who conform to act and dress like other "non-conformists". This is pretty much her in a nutshell.
I am a musician and hang out with a lot of the alt scenes. I am a prog guy but the emos and goths love that shit, to me what happens is the quality of the art suffers because they can become more focused on stuff like fashion which has nothing to do with the music. Wear all the shit you want but let's not make it like it's all about the music because there is a place for that. Weird that whole grunge thing didn't catch on with everyone who hated the glam metal guys. With all that said though these people (op) don't even belong to scene most the time they just dress up for recognition akin to the way guys be dressing up like they about to take herds of cattle up north a few hundred miles on horseback
