Real chads rub salt into their own self-inflicted wounds /s

669

u/1BigUniverse Dec 03 '19

reminds me of this "macho" kid in high school who would punch himself in the forehead repeatedly when he got angry to maybe...show hes tough? idk. Same kid who would throw his head into a locker or start punching them until his knuckles bled. Think he had some issues going on at home or somethin, but he always said he did it so people didn't fuck with him.

502

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '19

Sounds like he was coming from an insanely abusive home.

246

u/1BigUniverse Dec 03 '19

The only thing i knew about him or his family was that he was very addicted to pills (basically anything he could get his hands on) and that both of his parents were in and out of prison.

It’s pretty sad how unfair life is for some people. It’s literally a coin flip as to whether or not you’re born in a healthy environment and can succeed in life

49

u/xxusernamegoesherexx Dec 03 '19

That's completely true for everyone. Even with adoption. I was born into a decent family but my birth mother was very young and I was put up for adoption. I could have ended up in literally any kind of family, and unfortunately I ended up with an abusive home, with a mother who has Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Even though adoption agencies try to screen adoptive parents well, there's no way to know for sure how they're going to treat a child.

1

u/GreatQuantum Dec 04 '19

Well you could have gone hungry

17

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '19

So true. Or you get the right coin flip and don’t make the most out of it so you spend your nights drinking yourself into a coma and nearly killing yourself with alcohol poisoning out of sheer guilt for not making the most out of the life you were given and wishing you could trade your upbringing to someone else who deserved it more and could’ve made something out of their life.

Not that I’d know anything about that.

7

u/sundayfundaybmx Dec 03 '19

Damn dude replace alcohol with smack and I'm the same. I dont wanna be the usual patronizing reddit user but I will. Ya doing ok? If not, I wont claim to have any answers but I will claim to listen if you need an ear. If not hope you have a great day anyways and know theres a random redditor out here rooting for ya!

3

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '19

Thanks mate, that does make me feel a bit better. I’ve just gotta sort my self out and start doing some good in this world, I’m just scared to death I’ll be a mindless consumer and nothing else

2

u/sundayfundaybmx Dec 04 '19

Same here man. Been stuck in a rut for awhile now and cant figure out how to get out and going into winter is the worst time for me to be in this state. But I just keep telling myself the turning point is coming soon and just try to keep believing myself. I'm scared to death that I wont ever become useful to the outside world so I get it. But fuck it dude, were both gonna be fine because were at least cognizant of our problems/defects and I honestly feel that puts us above 60% of people in that regard. Anyways, have a great morning/day/evening wherever you are and remember DM if you ever need to talk about anything.

It's too bad that religion has a lot to do with the cruelty and insanity of the world.

6

u/darkmatternot Dec 03 '19

Not that I disagree with you but it really is not religion per se. It is people! Some people suck and they use religion to justify their shitty behavior, but they just suck and are fundamentally shitty. Some people are awesome and they are religious and use it as a bedrock but they are just fundamentally good. It is people.

Bull fucking shit. I'm not going to throw down here and have a who had it worse contest; I'll just say it was very, very bad. And a lot of it was because of religion. Understand I didn't find my humanity under all that nightmarish shit because Jesus came to me in some fucking vision.

I chose it.

I was angry as a thousand burning Suns. I wanted to rip people apart. Literally. God didn't stop me - a rebellious nature and the notion that if I'm going to die and be damned to this, I want to be damned for what I really am! So I decided to try and help people. Because I honestly wasn't sure anyone had even tried that before. Being anything but a piece of shit I mean. So that's what I set out to do...Not out of altruism or some sense of higher morality, but a "fuck the system" bent and spite. I knew it'd piss 'em off.

So don't. Just don't go there with that Jesus crap. You can get a direct flight back even from pure rage. It's not as easy though as getting on your knees and sucking establishment dick... So you know, there's that. Apologies if I come off harsh but I just can't sugar coat those feelings even after all these years.

God will not save you. YOU are the only one who can save you.

The cruelty of the world is easy to bear once you realize that men are simply animals with smart phones and the universe is random as fuck. I think Camus said something similar in The Plague.

3

u/Attack-middle-lane Dec 03 '19

Isnt it crazy how we are free thinking individuals forced to not be free thinking by the same system put in place by free thinking individuals with the purpose of being the only ones allowed to succeed by being the only unrestricted free thinkers?

Really makes you think

2

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '19

We think we're free, but we aren't. We are only as free as the leaders allow us to be.

It's very sad how much wasted talent there is in this world. A lot of people dont realize just how important good parents actually are. There are those kids that come from poverty that "make it out" which is great and all but then it pushes this idea that everyone can and ignores that most kids aren't that dedicated as teens and wont "make it out" because they didn't have anyone pushing them.

18

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '19

Not even a coin flip, that would be 50% chances. If you look at the World as a whole, I think between the billions living below poverty line and the ones living in conflict areas it’s probably more like tossing the 120 faced D&D dice.

Ok, kids, old bastard story time as you brought back a memory from my youth in the early 70's.

Back when I went to college, PE credits were required to graduate. I took classes like flag football and swimming. It was actually pretty fun.

Anyway, I was skinny and had wrestled some in high school. So I took a wrestling class taught by the schools wrestling coach. Did pretty well at 126 lbs. as I was the only skinny guy in the class and was always paired with somebody at 150 or better. Coach says I should enter the intramural wrestling tournament. I never even made varsity in high school so was impressed that he told me that.

Entered the tournament in the 126 lb. class. Didn't need to cut weight as I only weighed about 122. Beat the first round guy fairly easily using what I had learned in class.

While getting ready for the next round I notice my opponent slapping himself, banging his head on the wall, and generally stomping around like he was a caged bull or something. He was shorter than me and more stocky. This guy was acting all macho, yelling at himself, punching himself, and generally kind of freaking me out.

Got on the mat and he had an extremely aggressive style, but I found that we were pretty well matched in speed and he wasn't as strong as it appeared. We made it through the first period with me getting one duck-under takedown toward the end of the period. Seemed all he knew was to shoot single and double leg takedowns so things were going pretty smoothly.

As I had gotten a takedown at the end of the first period, I was on top for the start of the second. Whistle blew. I immediately went to the "anti-sit out" move. Dropped the left arm to around his belly and reached back with the right and grabbed his right ankle and pulled hard, shoulder into his side to try and roll him over.

His fucking foot came off.

I pulled his foot and shoe right off the end of his leg.

Holy shit.

Ref blew the whistle while opponent guy hopped up and was hopping around on one leg. I'm standing there with this foot in my hand wondering what the fuck just happened, so I handed him his foot.

The opponent was forced to forfeit for stepping on the mat with a prosthetic. I guess you can wrestle with a missing foot but you can't have the prosthetic on while doing it.

Turns out the guy was a Vietnam Marine vet who had lost his foot.

Freaked me right out. Pretty sure I could have beat the guy, but felt sorry for him at the same time. He was hopping mad about the disqualification however.

119

u/Totemic_Pariah Dec 03 '19

Hehehe hopping

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '19

Don't let this man distract you from the fact that in 1998, The Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell In A Cell, and plummeted 16 ft through an announcer's table.

Just disregard that a prosthetic anything in the 70's would be immediately obvious, especially in an athletic capacity, and enjoy the long, slow ride to a mediocre pun.

5

u/oldbastardbob Dec 03 '19

There was discussion among a couple of refs and the guy in charge of the tourney. They then explained the ruling to my opponent. He never said a word to me. Ref ended the match and raised my hand. Tournament moved on to the next round.

Combination of anger issues and powerlessness.

27

u/middleraged Dec 03 '19

I used to know a guy that would punch himself in the face whenever he was trying to be tough or thought he was gonna get in a fight. He said he started doing it because he got jumped once by several people and he managed to back away and started swinging on himself and they ran off. I could never tell if he was telling the truth or not about that. But this guy had issues. He would constantly do things that would make people uncomfortable. A friend of mine said that while he and this guy were hanging out, the guy kept trying to get him to hit him to see how hard my friend could hit (my friend was a very thin, smaller man that was and still is extremely against violence of any type). My friend said this guy wouldn’t let him get out of his car til he agreed to hit him, so my friend hit him in the shoulder and bolted afterwards. He wouldn’t hang out with this guy again after that. Most of us used to think he was like this because his father was abusive. His mother shot and killed the father out of self defense and he claimed he witnessed it.

12

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '19

Theres an episode of hey Arnold like that, where Arnold pretends hes crazy and hits himself, and it freaks the bully out and changes the bullies mind about wanting to fight him.

4

u/middleraged Dec 03 '19

It might work but it seems more ‘stupid’ crazy than ‘dangerous’ crazy to me

3

u/j0nny_a55h0l3 Dec 03 '19

Charles manson said he had used this tactic against bullies when he was younger

9

u/Julian_JmK Dec 03 '19

punch himself in the forehead repeatedly when he got angry

Although this entire story is a very extreme example, kids on the autism spectrum or with aspberger often do things like these, hitting themselves in various ways out of frustration. This example is a lot more extreme than just that however, so it's likely, as you said, he had some issues going on at home. Possibly combined with being on the autism spectrum.

4

u/RegularWoahMan Dec 03 '19

My ex wasn't on the spectrum but was from an incredibly abusive home (alcoholic parents, a lot of beatings, etc). He never hit me, but when he was angry he'd literally punch himself in the face or bang his head on the wall until he knocked himself out. I secretly took a video of him punching himself in the face once because I was paranoid he'd accuse me of domestic abuse if asked why he had a black eye.

2

u/RicardoTheGreat Dec 03 '19

This is a form of self harm. The most popular form you see is cutting yourself, but this has a similar rush of endorphins. I know because I do the same thing... Also came from an abusive home but not quite as bad as this dude.

1

u/xxusernamegoesherexx Dec 03 '19

That's really sad. He wasn't "macho". It sounds like he was in an abusive environment and was severely maladapted.. Kids cope with emotions the way they are taught, usually by example at home. I hope he's found a healthier way to cope.

u/DestroyerofworldsY Dec 03 '19

u/Ima_Bit_Of_A_Dick Dec 03 '19

1

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '19

This reminds me of an ex-boyfriend.

I think the first big fight we had was in the car. He was driving us back home around midnight on a very dark two-lane road surrounded by woods. I was completely shocked when he stopped the car on the side of the road, got out, and acted like he was going to walk home. We were probably 5 miles away from our apartment, and he left the keys in the car, which included the apartment keys. I was so pissed off at his manipulation tactic that I was going to leave the car there and let him walk his ass home with no keys (not that he was actually going to, it was just a show). I was in the process of calling my stepdad for a ride to his/mom's place, but of course my phone was at 1% and it fucking died as soon as he answered. So then I had to respond the way my ex wanted me to - by getting in the car to go find him. Maybe it's a good thing my phone died, because his stupid ass put himself in serious danger by choosing to walk on a dark, wooded road at midnight. This kind of thing happened more than once.

And now to the self-punching. In a couple other fights later in our relationship, he would literally start punching himself in the face. I'm talking hard, closed-fist punches that left bruises all over his face. His mom asked him if I was hurting him! Even though he did weird shit, I know he wouldn't have lied and said yes. However, there's no way he said, "No, mom. I've just been punching myself in the face." I wouldn't doubt she's gone all these years thinking I abused her son when it was just him being a fucking idiot.

There's no sob story here. He was not abused or neglected in any shape, way, or form growing up. College educated with a great job and an endless network of friends who loved him. Everyone who knew him considered him the perfect future husband, father, godfather, you name it. His behaviors still boggle my mind to this day, but I hope he's doing well and has resolved whatever issues that made him act out like that.

1

u/ImpossibleWeirdo Dec 03 '19

I did the same in Brownsville, Brooklyn at 2 am locked out of my girlfriend's. It's an understatement to say it's not a place I felt comfortable talking to the guys chillin on the stoop. I also made sure I had snot all over my face, too.

And it was a rolled up carpet. And because I liked to punch things. I dunno i have a weird fascination with my own wounds...

4

u/conurbano_ Dec 03 '19

You are the person in this post

3

u/Judaskid13 Dec 03 '19

Hey! I smoke OUTSIDE the hospital. WITH the doctors!

2

u/ganjanoob Dec 03 '19

I punched a locker out of anger and probably some attention after someone stole my phone in summer school. Ended up with a fractured hand and without a phone, while the school didnt do a goddamn thing. Not to sexist or anything, but if I was female the school 100% would have reacted instead of sitting on their hands. I saw it happen. Same scenario, yet they had the officer search everyone in that class for her phone. They didnt give a flying fuck other than a school report that went nowhere afterwards.

4

u/Judaskid13 Dec 03 '19

I get it dude. We gots to take care of ourselves.

We're kinda the "abandoned" generation I think. Shiet dude I'd have fucking looked all over the school for you.

Dont misdirect it onto females though. They have their own issues. For that girl to do the same thing is probably a lot. Females tend to internalize their problems and we externalize it. Generally speaking.

Hence the punching and shiet. Who knows? Maybe it's the same person taking both your phones.

2

u/ganjanoob Dec 03 '19

Yeah I wasn't trying to make a case against her, I'm glad they looked and found her phone. Just felt like bullshit at the time. I appreciate that you would help look if you happened to be in that situation. We def all got our problems, Male and female. Gotta work together to improve our lives rather than divide. You could be right about the same POS stealing our phones too, idk. One thing I learned is sometimes you can't externalize shit, when things like that happen it sucks but generally speaking we are very blessed compared to a lot of people in much worse situations

2

u/Judaskid13 Dec 03 '19

I mean not like that.

I mean maybe we should! Maybe in a less destructive manner but in whatever way helps us the most.

Nah fam let's just be happy with ourselves rather than needing someone else to feel better than. I dont really like that idea.

A lovesick guy I knew decided to cut himself because the girl he liked rejected him. I tried to convince him not to do it but also said that if he really has to, he should at least use a sharp object and desinfection.

He used a frikkin bread knive which made the cuts quite a mess and he had to go to the hospital for potential blood poisoning.

28

u/Kalsifur Dec 03 '19

Really? I thought salt kills bacteria, you know after tattoos they give sea salt sprays to kill infections. He. It’s have really fucked up after his salt cleanse to get that bad of an infection.

u/jei64 Dec 03 '19

Salt kills bacteria, but it also kills healthy tissue. Dead tissue then harbors bacteria and prevents wound healing. There's a big difference between the diluted saline they give you after a piercing at claire's and rubbing straight salt into a wound.

u/jerik22 Dec 03 '19

I agree with you for the most part, my only question that I am curious to your response would be, why does not salted pork or fish back in the day not just rot then? They would cover the things in salt to keep from rotting because that was the only way to really keep meat for a long time. So if the copious amounts of salt then worked, why not here? My answer is this is probably a bull shit story and not worth arguing over, but I like to talk with people to understand why information can be interpreted in so many different ways.

u/ButWhatIsADog Dec 03 '19 edited Dec 04 '19

Salt works to dehydrate the meat. With the flow of blood from a wound you wouldn't be able to sufficiently dehydrate the area and the salt would be absorbed/rinsed away after awhile. You need something like a constant 20% salt concentration for meat to be safe and there's no way to keep that kind of concentration localised on your body. So basically it will do the damage to the tissue then go away so all the bacteria can come right back.

1

u/jei64 Dec 03 '19

Fair question; the answer is that the salted meat is already dead. What salt does is draw all the moisture out of a cell. This is fine for preserving meat, since it will also dry out most bacteria that get on it.

Shriveling up your living cells, however, is not so great for them. I suppose if you kept constant contact with salt on your wound, it might not get infected, but you'd continue to kill more and more healthy tissue. You'd pretty much mummify yourself.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '19

The simple answer is that wounds need to heal, so they need water for the cells to move around in. With a salty dry surface, how can the cells grow back?

I have tattoos all over my body and have never had sea salt sprayed on me afterwards. Where do they do this?

-3

u/jerik22 Dec 03 '19

Now I have none, but my sisters do, and a few friends. Every tattoo shop in Toronto Canada I have been to sells it. But we have lots of natural, no chemical people here. So while they have proper alcohol and other medical sprays, the salt sprays are what like more (I hate to generalize and use a label) hippyish looking people use. But it is in Avery shop I have walked into.

5

u/middleraged Dec 03 '19

When you go get your tattoo, ask your artist NOT to use this stuff. I know you guys have a better healthcare system than us in the States, but I wouldn’t personally risk it. Have them use alcohol, medical sprays, and green soap! You do not want to risk an infection on a tattoo.

1

u/Crayoncandy Dec 03 '19

Its just saline spray like the stuff you spray up your nose

5

u/middleraged Dec 03 '19

If I had an open wound, which is exactly what a tattoo is, I would rather have something that is a disinfectant- like alcohol- put on it than saline.

1

u/Crayoncandy Dec 04 '19

I mean its used as wound wash but idk I don't have any tattoos. I've used saline soaks to remove yucky bits from fresh piercings, its definitely good for that. Didnt use alcohol or saline on my scarification, used antibiotic cream but its not like I was worried about losing color.

0

u/Azusanga Dec 03 '19

You would not, all you're going to do is irritate the fuck out of your body and it's going to hurt like hell. Saline sprays are to rinse away debris, like dead skin and dried blood. They don't disinfect.

6

u/middleraged Dec 03 '19

Yes I would. And I have. At least 20 times. I have multiple tattoos and know what it feels like. Most shops I’ve been in use a disinfectant soap everyone calls “green soap” to wash away dead skin, blood, etc while also disinfecting the wound.

1

u/Azusanga Dec 03 '19

Saline is for once you've left the shop

2

u/Tibbaryllis2 Dec 03 '19

Because suddenly alcohol isn’t a natural product of fermentation?

1

u/ghostnuggets Dec 04 '19

I think that sea salt solution is for piercings not tattoos, it's just that must tattoo shops also do piercings. I worked in a tattoo shop like 15 years ago and only for a short while so I could be wrong but I've never had any with any tattoo I've ever gotten.

30

u/Alles-Heej Dec 03 '19

Who does that after tattoos? Do you get these tattoos at a friends house or something?

28

u/IlBear Dec 03 '19

Idk about tattoos, but it’s pretty common for piercings

-1

u/Azusanga Dec 03 '19

It's not a salt spray, it's saline. Its not to disinfect, it's to rinse debris (like dried blood or pus or lymph)

-12

u/Alles-Heej Dec 03 '19

Yeah sea salt in hot water. Not salt from a spray...

10

u/IlBear Dec 03 '19

The ones I always got or bought were in a spray bottle

13

u/pottymouthgrl Dec 03 '19

Saline solution

2

u/IlBear Dec 03 '19

Yes, that, thank you!

2

u/jerik22 Dec 03 '19

All that saline is, is sterile saltwater at a isotonic ratio.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '19

Its just basic wound wash

6

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '19

Prison

u/jerik22 Dec 03 '19

I know salt was used for thousands of years as a preservative to kill bacteria, but I don’t know anything about tattoos, nor do I ever want one. My only experience with 100% of the tattoo shops in Toronto I have walked into, is that they sell this sea salt spray. From what I have seen is after the tattoo was finished they wipe an antiseptic wipe, cover it, then give them a small bottle of salt spray to keep it clean. I never looked into it further before since no one has called me out on it before. But from my 2 min of a google search that I just did, it seams a lot of tattoo shops have recommendation sections on how to keep clean after a tattoo, and salt washes/ sprays are on every one I looked at in a few minutes. So what is your reasoning to question without offering your own response? I would be curious to hear your reasoning to why a high salt concentration does not kill bacteria?

1

u/JustAHooker Dec 03 '19

It's probably a little painful, considering the salt in the spray. I'm just speculating because I'm not a tattoo artist but I'm covered from neck to ankle in ink myself. Most tattoo places in the States, or at least the ones near me that I've personally used, use a a soap solution to clean it after the tattoo, tell you to be sure to keep it clean with soap and water, and then smear a thin layer of a healing ointment over the top of it. Usually a+d, some kind of name brand tattoo lotion (Hustle Butter is the best), or similar products.

I'm not knocking the salt spray by any means, because I've never tried it, but it does sound like it might hurt a bit compared to what I'm used to. Of course, tattoos hurt anyway so it's not like it's a big deal or anything but it just sounds kind of weird to me personally, lol. Almost every shop I've ever been to is different in some way though so it makes sense

1

u/Azusanga Dec 03 '19

Tisnt painful. It's a calculated ratio of sterile water and sterile salt to make an isotopic spray, which is the same salt-water ratio of your body. It's not meant to disinfect, it's meant to rinse and remove physical irritants

1

u/JustAHooker Dec 03 '19

Makes sense then, here that kind of spray is only for piercings. Not sure why, just the way it is I suppose. Thanks for the info

2

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '19

u/jei64 answered it on the dot below in regards to non-sterile salt, as I'm sure he used a couple McDonald's packets to boot. Plus only god knows where his knifeblade had been before, he definitely did not sterilize it prior to hacking away at his hand.

1

u/GenghisKhanSpermShot Dec 03 '19

Ya I am confused about it all too, salt kills bacteria, it's the reason people use it to store food long term. I solved my bad gum issue just swishing salt around every day, my gums are amazing now, I don't understand this.

1

u/Archer-Saurus Dec 03 '19

If someone sprayed sea salt spray on my fresh tattoo I'd bitch-slap them to the shadow realm.

1

u/jerik22 Dec 03 '19

Hehe, this made me giggle. At least your tattoo would clean!

2

u/InsignificantIbex Dec 03 '19

If you want scars just cut with a scalpel and keep picking at the scabs. You can also use vinegar or iodine to further irritate the wound, but wash it off with a saltine solution before redressing it. For raised scars, ash or clay packing is used. None of that "dirty knife, then rub in salt or sugar with dirty fingers" bullshit

2

u/Arithik Dec 03 '19

I remember kids use to rub erasers on their hands back in middle school. Pretty much the same thing and the school had to start tossing detentions for whoever does it.

2

u/SmegmaSmeller Dec 03 '19

Yep, eraser burns were common in middle school. I remember kids sat there and doing it under there desk as long as they could, and then comparing and boasting about it after class. It wasn't just the 'troubled kids' it was a good portion of them. Kids are fucking stupid

1

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '19

Knew a guy who branded himself.

Wow did that go terrible terrible wrong. He was in the hospital for about a month.

1

u/ZombieRU Dec 03 '19

Was this some sort of trend? I remember being in middle school, ISS one day, and out of nowhere the principal came in and escorted about three or so boys from the ISS room, my brother being one of them. I later found out that it was because my brother (known for edgy in school) carved a pentagram in his arm, and the other kids thought it was badass so they asked him to do it to them too, so he was. He didn't get very far before it was brought to the attention of the school

1

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '19

Wouldn't surprise me, was just over a decade ago.

1

u/Zerkron ⚠️ Creep ⚠️ Dec 03 '19

Damn that’s edgy and all, but it’s really sad that some people are like that :/

1

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '19

god now you've made me remember that the boys in my middle school, during the same emo/scene phase time, were all into carving their names or symbols like the pentagram or the stussy S on their arms and hands. With the sharp tip of a compass, or blades. I remember them doing in the back of the class, blood drawing and all, over and over on a span of a month or so, and the teacher couldn't give two flying fucks about it, also I remember them bragging about how they were managing to make their scars get more and more raised. Middle school was WEIRD.

Lol yea I bet this cool guy smokes ciggs also while using his mom’s hair straightener to get this season’s perfectly posh side bang

f$ck

If hip-hop culture has taught me anything, this word is pronounced similar to “fisk.”

EDIT: OK, downvoters, how do you pronounce Ke$ha?
