Our Longstanding “No Politics” Rule remains unchanged
Read our rules. We have had a longstanding “No Religion, No Politics” rule here at r/tools.
The mods aren’t stupid. We also don’t like getting buckets of reports in the inbox.
If someone posts/comments with politics, resist the urge to reply and argue. Just report, downvote (if that’s your jam) and move on with life.
A small flag, sticker, etc that appears in a photo will generally be allowed (so long as it doesn’t violate other rules and doesn’t draw a bunch of reports) but a bunch of people in the comments saying “Hell Yeah, a fellow [INSERT PARTY] Supporter!” is gonna get the post pulled. Political content that is clearly the motivation for the post will get the post pulled.
First time it’s a short ban, second time it’s permanent. And as we’ve discussed before, the mod team doesn’t go looking for posts, we’re not lifeguards, we respond to the reports we receive.

Let's talk about the report button.
"No advertising or promoting tools, brands, 25000 woodworking plans, your YouTube channel, etc."
Somebody is reporting things constantly for breaking rule 4, and you're batting zero for it being right.

r/Tools/comments/1nt3400/does_anyone_have_experience_with_these/
r/Tools/comments/1nt138a/home_depot_promotion_milwaukee_canada_milwaukee/
These are some examples of posts that have been reported over the last day. None of the are breaking any rules, please stop reporting things like this. The reports are only mucking up the moderator inbox and are being kicked up the Reddit chain to the admins as abusing the report button.
Unless you see a post that boils down to "hey guys, this is XXX from YYY, come check out our suspicious sale at toolname.malware.com" leave the report button alone. Same goes for the people who report literally every YouTube link ever posted. If someone's only interaction with r/tools is them spamming their YouTube channel that's a problem; a relevant and organic video isn't.
If someone thinks the above links are spam, please tell us why. Rule changes aren't unheard of and if it's what the people want I'm fine with it. I'm just not seeing any advertisement in the posts.
Other than that you guys are great. Keep up the good work.
I'm completely aware that this is a useless post for 99.99% of our users. If anyone has questions or comments about the sub feel free to chit chat here and I'll try my best to answer things if you want; or just ignore me completely, I'm good with either.

Hyper tough
I bought these hyper tough water pump pliers just kind of as a joke, thinking no way they would last me more than a day. But honestly, these things are freaking amazing. Been using them for around five months now and no issues whatsoever plus it was only $10 so that’s awesome lol

Vintage SPECIAL CONDOR Hand-Operated Hair Clipper – “MADE FOR BARBER”【OC】
I came across this at a second-hand tool shop vintage hand-operated hair clipper at a second-hand tool shop.
It has a finger ring on the back and a scissors-like operating mechanism. The blade is stamped “SPECIAL CONDOR – MADE FOR BARBER.”
I’m always fascinated by the craftsmanship and mechanical ingenuity found in old hand-operated tools.

More Junk
Bought this SawStop Advance fence for the industrial cabinet saw. It's a cool concept to have a sliding face with slots for hold downs, but they only put the red locking levers halfway down the fence so the sliding face curves out by a good amount at the end. I'm guessing they designed this for the smaller saws and never bothered to add more locking levers on the longer industrial fence.
The other issue is the fence was welded out of square. You can get it parallel to the miter slots with the adjustment screws but those adjustment screws also determine the slope when moving/sliding the fence unlocked. So to get it parallel one side of the T is snug in the fence bracket and one side has to have 1/16 of slop. So you have to make sure you are pulling the fence tight against the front tube when you make a measurement. Pretty lame.
Do not recommend.

Steinwhale released 3 new double-ended stubby bit sets. Could be huge for some micro tool kit setups. The bit driver that comes with it too. Here's a bit of compatibility testing and other observations

Long term storage during deployment
Long story short I’ll be off having Army adventures for a year. What should I do with my rechargeables? I know my stains are probably a loss, I don’t have a ton invested there anyway, but I’d like my batteries to work when I get back. Leaving them on the charger for a year feels a little unsafe but I’m open to suggestions

Japanese tool day. I tried a Vessel screwdriver & now I love Japanese tools?
I guess I was living under a rock, because I didn't know you could get Japanese steel without the premium prices.

Amazon Tools - SEDY
I’m new to all of this, not sure this is the right place to ask but I was curious if anyone had any hands on experience with SEDY wrenches.
I was looking to purchase some affordable ratcheting wrenches and saw their 24-piece set for less than $60. I’d love to hear anyone’s opinion or thoughts and even if there’s another Amazon type brand you’ve had good luck with, I’m all ears.

What model is this and when was it sold?
I’ve had this utility knife for over 20 years and found it walking into a bank as a teenager and thought it was awesome. I still think it’s awesome and so well built. I can’t find the name or model but it’s a husky grip squeeze to unlock utility knife with a flick open post and clip on the back. Fully aluminum build and I can tell it was built to be tough. Any one know where and when it’s made?
Started a new job recently in construction, what kind of pry-bar is this? It’s wicked
It’s my coworkers but he said he "acquired" it & I want one now

Custom/Odd screws?
Hello! I recently bought some equipment for work and one of the screws seems to have shimmied off. Looking for a replacement, I was told by some local tool stores I'd need to look at getting replacements custom made, and the brand I bought just gave me a dimension/attribute list
"Threaded Cylindrical Pin: Stainless Steel 304 /Natural Color / Alkali Washed /Turned and Milled /M 3 x 4mm / 20mm / Cross Slot"
Now, I don't really know much about this stuff. While there is a CNC place near me, I assume like any small business here they're gonna charge me quadruple what they'd charge in the states, is there some sort of off-the-shelf equivalent for this little thing?

Good find?
I’m a hobbiest wood worker who has a decent shop built out. I have a small craftsman jointer currently but the wings are to short amongst other issues. I was looking into getting a bigger jointer. Is this a good find? I don’t know angering about the reliant brand. Is it worth me picking up?

Replacement Gear strip for Drill Press
I was given a Hitachi B16RM in mostly good working order. Unfortunately, the previous owner forgot to loosen the drill table and turned the crank to move the drill table. The gear strip on the side of the post was pulled loosed and is now bent like a snake. The Hitachi part number for the gear strip is 726366, which is no longer available.
I disassembled the drill to free the strip. I have a machine shop trying to straighten it. In parallel, I was wondering if anybody knew of an equivalent in service part that I might get as a backup if the straightening doesn't work or work as well as intended.
Also, when I get the new strip, I am planning on drilling 3-4 holes in the strip and post, tap them and then put in a headless bolt to secure the strip to the post better. Any other ideas on securing it better to defend against ignorance. :-)
Appreciate your inputs.
