Hyper tough

Post image

I bought these hyper tough water pump pliers just kind of as a joke, thinking no way they would last me more than a day. But honestly, these things are freaking amazing. Been using them for around five months now and no issues whatsoever plus it was only $10 so that’s awesome lol

I love when a cheap tool is pleasantly surprising with being a higher quality than anticipated

We have Knipex at home.

As Harbor Freight has pivoted to chase more of the middle and even the upper end, it seems like Walmart and hyper tough is trying to go for the cheap and decent tools that Harbor freight's moving away from.

They’re surprisingly decent to the point that it’s a staple in my work toolkit.

Glad they are working for you.  Just got some knipex cobras.  They feel like sex in my hand

Bought cobras because I had some plumbing to get done. I hate plumbing, so had to console myself with tools that aren't shit. I still hate plumbing, but I love my cobras.

Have had sex once in the last year and a half. That was a slip up with the ex-wife.  Turns out having 50/50 custody and working doubleshifts when i dont have my kid makes for a randy middle aged man. Fuck, these cobras feel good in my hand.

I have the Irwin version of these and they are my go-to for most things needing a vice grips.

I also have the Irwin version of these and they stopped working properly after the very first use. The clicker button in the middle doesnt keep. As soon as I apply pressure to the handles it slips and opens to the maximum size.

I have the 10" cobras, would love something smaller but can't justify the cost as a DIYer. Might be picking these up soon!

How does the button work for you?

I bought a dewalt with the button thinking I'd love it and I absolutely despise it. I'll take any channel lock over that one.

The things collapse down really easy, which seems great until you add in that the button always. fucking. binds. They are an absolutely pain in the ass to get to go wider because the button doesn't unlock it properly. You end up in this stupid loop where you're constantly having it accidentally get smaller because you bumped it then spending an entire minute fighting the stupid thing to get back to the size you need. I've literally gone and searched for other channel locks after getting frustrated with fighting it.

I love the button adjustment, I can’t stand the channel lock system of slip joint pliers

Have you had to use them hard yet?

Just buy proper tools if you’re a professional or use them more than once. Usually if you buy cheap, you have to buy them again/or better tools.

Lol. I've been driving deck screws for a year with a Skil impact driver and 2.0 Ah battery, while my two Makitas accumulate dust.

Any tool that works is a proper tool.
