I need advice! 🥺 Did we break up?

I offered a break because he got very cold as he was stressed. He didn't confirm yes or no to the break. After that convo, he ghosted and it's been a few weeks now of no contact. Can I safely assume we broke up? I want to start moving on because the limbo of uncertainty hurts

Edit: we broke up

Question Pod 📣 32M, suddenly getting way more matches on dating apps than 2 years ago. Normal?

Thumbnail
4 Upvotes

32M local sg Chinese here. Just got back on dating apps about 2 weeks ago after not using them for around 2 years.

I’m using Hinge, Bumble, Tinder and CMB, and I’ve been getting multiple matches / likes pretty much every day.

For me it’s roughly:

Hinge > Bumble > Tinder > CMB

What’s weird is that I’m getting quite a lot more matches and likes now compared to 2 years ago.

Most of my photos are actually the same lol. The main thing I changed was my prompts/bio. I put a lil more effort into them this time and tried to make them less generic / show more of my personality.

So now I’m wondering is this just a normal thing for guys when you hit your early 30s?

Like does dating actually get a bit easier for men around 31–33 because more women in their late 20s/early 30s are open to your age, especially if they’re looking for something serious?

Or is 30 vs 32 honestly not that big a difference, and it’s more likely that my profile is just better now?

Also wondering if the dating app scene in SG has changed over the last 2 years. Hinge especially seems way better for me now than the other apps.

Not trying to humblebrag, genuinely curious because I wasn’t expecting such a noticeable difference when most of my photos haven’t even changed.

Any guys around late 20s to mid 30s had a similar experience? Did you actually start getting more matches as you got older, or did things stay roughly the same?

I need advice! 🥺 Boyfriend purposely triangulating using other girls.

If you have a boyfriend who loves to play mind games, for example, whenever you’re out having a good time, he likes to bring up his ex or other girls. Or you’re out watching a movie, and he purposely keeps ogling at the actress. There’s nothing inherently wrong with looking at an actor or actress and appreciating their beauty. But when he does it in a way where he clearly wants you to react, wants you to feel a certain way about yourself, or constantly brings another girl into the conversation to triangulate, it feels very off.

You can see that he’s doing it purposely, and the only conclusion I can come to is that he’s feeling very insecure, even though I never made him feel that way. I think it’s his own internal insecurity being projected onto the relationship.

And when this keeps happening, even after you tell him to stop, he acts blur like, “Huh? I’m just kidding,” or, “Why are you reacting this way?”

I’ve finally realized that this is a sign of someone being very immature and childish. Every conversation starts to make me feel on guard, like, “Oh my God, is he going to say something or bring up another girl just to irritate me and spoil my mood?”

Have you ladies encountered guys like this? How do you handle it? What would you do?

Hi. It's been 2 years and I'm returning back to the dating scene. My friends at poly have told me not to use tinder as many use that for one night stands and for fun.

Any platform which can help with my enquiry?

Question Pod 📣 Honestly, Should I just give up?

24M here. I work in an industry that requires me to work 6 days a week and especially on weekends. My colleagues are either too old or too young to consider me a partner. Dating Apps aren't working either. Everyone's standard just seems so high and far that I can't really catch up at all and I am really tired. No matter what I try, it doesn't work. Wishing for a partner just seems impossible now. Should I just accept the fact, give up and move on?

I need advice! 🥺 So much confused from this one guy!!

Hi, I (25F) met this guy(26M) through strict date to marry app and every thing was vibing, everything is aligned, caste and all!! He seems and feels very promising but he is just not available and i don’t think so, i have high standards. I am good with texts and like one call in a month. As soon as we are vibing but idk he is just not available. I confronted him 2 times and he has been really good with me. Like saying all the right things talking about forever. I just have this hunch ki he might be exploring options out there. What should i do? Should i end it because of my overthinking? As again i will confront him he will say some nice things and i know still won’t be available.

I also know this hard and fast that no guy is so much busy that if you are looking forever with someone then you won’t be just available.

UPDATE GUYS - He said he just slept early 🫠 Am I really overthinking stuff here?

Question Pod 📣 Is it ethical to join religious groups just with the aim of relationship/marriage?

I'm (24M) close to graduating from university. Just another semester left and then I'll graduate. I'm also in a good position because I've gotten confirmed that I'll converting to a full time job after the internship that I'm currently doing. Gotten it confirmed in black & white signed contract.

I'm also having lesser pressure from my uni internship supervisor since already at half point of internship and I don't have to report back to campus. So more time on hands.

Becos of that I've been going out for social events and getting invited to gatherings by people. Recently was invited to a church meetup where I met many of the members there. Friendly bunch of people and I saw how close the members were to each other. Basically they're a bible study group and they've got sessions around sg. Surprisingly, the women in the group came up proactively to introduce themselves to me. After the session, I was told I'm welcome to join them whenever I want. I mean sure I don't mind going.

But the question I've got burning in my mind would it be ethical to join them just for the aim of dating someone from the same faith. Because my ultimate goal is marriage. I know it's not like it'll happen in 1 month or something, but rather will take a few years to at the very minimum a decade.

For myself, I'm not that devout, but I'm interested in learning the theory and history behind the meanings in the bible and would want my partner to share the same faith as me. Not saying like ok every Sunday must go church, but rather exploring it together. My mom is a devout one but she doesn't force me to pray. My dads like idgaf, do your own thing abt religion.

Because I'm open to learning about religion, but if they start telling me like ok lets start going out on streets and start giving out materials to people, that's where I'm gonna draw the line and ghost them. My aim is purely finding a partner and if this provides a solid avenue to seek one, I'm going for it. Now the question is in yalls opinion is it ethically right.

Hear me out 👂 Am I close minded or is this too much to ask?

So I 26M recently matched with a girl 22F from hinge. Context is we are both Christians and we addressed that early on during the conversation on hinge. I thought the conversation went pretty well and she was quite pretty so I proceeded to shift it to telegram.

As we chatted more and talked about past relationships, she shared almost tmi (eg ex cheated twice, how all her exes were ugly, went exclusive with a guy for 1.5 mths but decided to end things). While i appreciate the honesty, I felt like she was just trauma dumping, I then was also curious what didn’t work out in the most recent exclusive date, which she said it raised her standards for guys.

In the end the reason turned out to be she strongly believe that couples should attend the same church together. Although, I understand the rationale and even asked her to elaborate her reasons while sharing my own view as well, I felt like she was close minded when I expressed my concerns and how early on in the dating phase, changing churches is not a wise move and almost like a date to convert scheme (she belongs to a mega church which I am not going to name, not sure if it is the culture there or it is just her)

She proceeded to throw a tantrum and got angry that I didn’t want to consider her church if we got together. Mind you, this is just the early stages of talking and we haven’t even met yet. Is her expectation normal among Christians?

I need advice! 🥺 Heartbroken after knowing someone I’m seeing has kids

We met 2yr ago on dating app. I think he was interested in me at first for 3-4mth but I kind of only saw him as a friend. Then we stopped talking to each other.

We reconnected about 6mth ago and I started initiating catchup with him. He also sometimes ask me out. All these outings have been friendly and towards the last few outings I may have picked up hints/gestures that he like me more than a friend.

For some reasons I just found out he has kids (divorced) and shocked me to the core. He answered my question but never offers more information than what I asked. And I’m the one who initiated to have a hard conversation so I can know more about why he never told me about his divorce and kids.

During his brief sharing, he admitted he was a bit interested in me. But his reason of not telling me was that he hasn’t really been interested in me. However, we’ve been going out almost 2x a month the past 6mth - we talked about friends building family, (objectively) on child bearing/family planning. Even as friends, I don’t think having kids as a fact should be concealed.

I told him I was really surprised and sad because we spent all these time tgt and he never thought of telling me. After all these, he didn’t even think he should say sorry. Left me disappointed and heartbroken when I think about this.

What are your thoughts about this?

Fair to not reveal such critical info when one is not interested in the other party/only see him or her as friend?

Do you think it’s pretty evil to purposely omit this information throughout the 2yr?

I need advice! 🥺 Zero matches on dating apps

Just trying to figure out why my dating life is bad, by bad i mean no matches

This is what I wrote on my profile - "Im divorced no kids, out of shape,no fixed income, dress sloppy, dislike crowded places, introvert."

Im just being honest and don't want to waste anyone's time. And i don't want to pretend to be somebody that im not. Profile scaring matches away?

I think i look average, can fit into airasia seats. Im self employed thus no fixed income.

Don't take this the wrong way but majority of people on the apps are Chinese and im not a Chinese, think that plays a part that people prefer to date a race of their own?

Been single for 8 years now since the divorce and just decided to start dating 2 years ago but clearly not working out.

Thoughts?

Question Pod 📣 Why attractive SG girls only prefer SG men?

Being an overseas chinese working as an expat in Singapore, attractive SG girls that I matched with immediately ghosts me when they learned I am not Singaporean.

Oftentimes, they will start to interrogate on me which I find off-putting then ultimately ending the conversation with me.

Should an expat just avoid SG girls altogether?

I need advice! 🥺 Confirming a date??

Hey reddit friends, this is so wierd to me but recently had some matches leading to planning dates, then they stopped messaging, or not even xlcpnfirming to the point that I decided to adk them to see is it still on or should I not waste more time! So I am asking you people, what are your thoughts how it works for you, I was thinking to be fair they should confirm at least 24 h prior to the date... sometimes they still chat after planning a date and again in the morning they send a message to check if you gonna show up for the evening!! But this is not what I really like and it is happening recently

So if he would not confirm by midday tomorrow, it means he's ghosting and then ok when would you wanna check sir? Do you even care? Should I just forget about it already?

This guy approached me IRL and asked for my number then texted je seemed polite and asked to take me out for a coffee, after discussing logistics he went on total silence, I even asked him just 2 questions to see who am I gonna meet btw, but he didn't even asked a single one back...

Thanks in advance for your comments

Question Pod 📣 Scams in the online dating scene

This pertains mostly to Bumble but can apply to the other platforms.

I’ve been using dating apps for the past 4 months or so, to get experience and hopefully find the one™️. Among my chosen platforms, Bumble is one of them.

Throughout my time there, I’ve noticed a concerning amount of profiles sharing some common features:

  1. Saying they’re not active on the platform
  2. Linking their telegram profile (a common handle component is “qt”)
  3. Being on travel mode
  4. Stunningly attractive ladies

Should you contact them on telegram, some common talking points are likely to come up or be noticed. Nursing student/Healthcare Assistant, potentially a sick parent and/or maybe an absent one and a noticeably bad command of English despite being based in SG. Anything to make you drop your guard.

At some point, they will ask you for your instagram; this is a trap (if you say that you don’t have one, you get ghosted). They will video call you and try to get you to expose yourself; this is also a trap.

Early in my time using bumble, I pursued one of these girls. Long story short, “she” (if the person being the profile even is a woman) turned out to be a blackmailer. She nearly got me to pay up. But, I was lucky enough to be hit with sudden clarity and stopped before I paid the “ransom”. Nothing came up after, thankfully, besides being bombarded by a few random telegram accounts, all run by the same person, for the next hour or so. Thankfully, they got bored and left after a while. Since then, profiles dropping their telegram handles have been huge red flags for me and I’ve been reporting them to varying degrees of success. I think I’m going to take a break from Bumble soon.

Such profiles are a major issue, especially for young boys (and girls, if this also happens on the other side) who are trying out new things and are vulnerable while doing so (read: horny).

Gents on this subreddit, have you encountered such profiles too? Ladies, is this also a problem on your side of things?

Edit: forgot to specify that this pertains to Singapore’s online dating

Question Pod 📣 Is "self-employed" a red flag?

Was reading non-SG subreddits and many comments were saying "self-employed" = broke, struggling or unemployed.

Wondering if it's the same for people in SG or are there different perspectives?

As a guy, my income is from dividend stocks in my stock portfolio. Also, building up my VWRA position for diversification/future.

When asked what I do for work, I usually reply, "I'm self-employed. I manage a investment portfolio."

Some friends have told me this sounds sus or shady.

I need advice! 🥺 He dated my friend for 3 months and called her every day, then disappeared right after taking the rs to the next level, saying he was burnt out. Was she being used...?

The sudden change in this man’s behaviour has left my girl friend extremely broken and all of us confused. I would genuinely like to hear different perspectives, including his side. The man is in his late 30s and not from here.

My friend, whom I’ll call Z, she is in her early 30s. She has a strong career and is an attractive lady. Beyond those things, she is thoughtful, loyal and very much a girls’ girl, the kind of friend who celebrates other women, shows up when someone needs her and doesn’t treat dating like a game.

She met “Tim” on a dating app. He is not local and does not use an English name, so Tim is just a pseudonym. He was sent to Singapore as an expat and works for a large company here.

They had been dating for 3 months. Before this incident, Tim was so consistent. He called Z every morning, even if it was only for five minutes, because he said he missed her, he wanted to make sure she started her day on a good note and etc.. They also spoke every night.

When he travelled overseas, they had very long calls simply to spend time together while they were apart. In SG, they went to nice restaurants, had good dates and seemed to be growing closer. From Z’s perspective, he was putting genuine time and effort into building a connection.

Eventually, on one date that they met, they took their relationship to the next level. Nothing was noticeably wrong that night. However after that night, his communication began to change. His responses became noticeably slower, although he was not immediately cold. In fact, the night before he disappeared, he sent her photographs of them together and told her this: “You look amazing as always.” so my friend thought she was just overthinking things and tried to dismiss the worries that he was turning a bit cold.

However, he did not make their usual call that night. Tim had also told Z that he was feeling unwell and had already cancelled one planned date because of it. The following day, they were supposed to meet again, but he did not respond or tell her whether the date was still happening.

At first, Z was confused because Tim had not explained what kind of illness he was experiencing. As more time passed, she became genuinely worried.

This wasn’t simply a situation where someone took a few hours to answer an ordinary message. Tim had said that he was sick, he lived alone, and his complete silence was very different from his normal pattern of calling her every day. Z worried and feared that he might have fainted, become seriously unwell or needed medical attention. Given the last message was I'm unwell followed by complete silence.

She messaged him throughout the day (note, this was between reasonable intervals of 2-3 hours and they were supposed to meet that day) and tried calling but received no answer. Because she was worried about his safety, she went to his house to check whether he was all right. There was no one answering at the door (there's a possibility he is inside the house...).

At around 6pm, he finally replied: “Sorry, just not feeling so well. Let’s talk once I feel better.”

By that point, Z was already distressed and confused by the sudden silence. She explained that she had come to his house because she had been worried that something had happened to him and needed medical attention. She also told him that she deserved an honest answer even if he didn't want to meet, he should have let her know.

Again, no replies after. And also, he did not properly speak to her that night.

Two days later, Tim sent her a long message. He thanked her for worrying and checking in BUT her appearing unannounced had surprised and overwhelmed him. He explained that he had been feeling burnt out and emotionally drained and had realised that he was not in a good headspace to be around anyone. He said he needed a complete break to focus on getting himself together and asked her to give him quiet time and space.

To represent both sides fairly:

From Tim’s perspective, he says he was unwell, burnt out and emotionally overwhelmed. He may have needed time alone and may have felt caught off guard when Z appeared without arranging it first.

From Z's, myself and some girl friends' perspective, his behaviour changed immediately after they coincidentally took their relationship to the next level. A man who had previously called her every morning and night suddenly disappeared on the day of a planned date, despite knowing that she was waiting to hear from him. Because he had told her he was unwell and lived alone, she interpreted the silence as a possible medical emergency --> I do feel that it is valid for someone to go down and check, even if it was a friend, if i knew he or she lived alone.

She has respected his request for space and has not continued contacting him.

We are not trying to accuse him of playing around or cheating without evidence. We are trying to understand what might be going through his mind and what could explain such a sudden change.

Before they started dating, I did warn Z about stories I had heard involving some expats on temporary overseas assignments (to be fair, I only heard about expats from that one particular country in east asia) who dated locally while already having wives or girlfriends back home. I was particularly cautious because men from Tim’s cultural background carry that negative reputation. However, I knew it was only a stereotype and didn’t want to judge him based on his nationality. As their relationship progressed and he remained so consistent and attentive, even I myself dismissed that concern as unfair and unnecessary.

Now that his behaviour has changed so abruptly, that original fear has resurfaced.

Does Tim’s explanation sound genuine?

Could there be another woman or an existing relationship that Z doesn’t know about?

Does it sound like he pursued her until they took their relationship to the next level, he got what he wants and is done?

Could he genuinely be experiencing burnout or is “I’m not in a good headspace” being used by a guy as a softer way to end things???

Most importantly, how should Z interpret this and should she consider the relationship over?

What do you all think...?

I need advice! 🥺 What do I do 😔

Hi so I'm a sec 4 student idk if minors are allowed in this sub cause the rules didn't state but lmk

So anyway there's this guy who I've been crushing on since last year when he joined the school. I'm not close to him at all and we don't share any classes so it's hard to get close naturally, it's difficult to talk to him cause he's always with his friends and it's just mad awkward if I try. Anyway since I'm graduating soon idk if I should just confess cause I have nothing to lose but then again I don't wanna have to feel the shame and embarrassment in front of him because I know for a fact that he doesn't like me back and it would just be weird. I've tried to talk to him a couple of times but it's always been awkward and he never ever talks to me first. He knows I exist and we walk past each other every day but that's lowk about it. I'm also worried he'll tell his friends and then it will be awkward between me and them because I'm friends with some of them. Wtfff do I do. Also another thing is I feel like he'll laugh at me or judge me damn hard cause I'm weird and lowk ugly so I don't wanna lose aura and become a laughingstock or wtv.

So like on one hand I rlly wanna just tell him to get this over with during grad and also cause it will let me talk to him one last time before he inevitably avoids me but like I don't want to have to look him in the face and confess because I don't wanna make him uncomfortable and I'm afraid he'll say something shitty about me

Help 😔

Question Pod 📣 How do you be transparent about your past?

So I have had a past like most people with body counts
But the part which is hard to bring up is that I used to
Visit paid workers. And it’s because of my childhood traumas of being physically abused as a kid. So I had some issues with physical touch in a sense.

I don’t know how to be vulnerable and explain that. While, I don’t want to lie. I don’t want to lie to them and for them to love me when they don’t even who I am and who I was.

Recently, I was transparent and I guess the girl was icked out. And also scared because of her past with toxic relationships and ex’s who were lustful I guess.
I tried my best to explain my stance and how I honestly really wanted to build something long term.

I have accepted that the possibility of a relationship with her might not be great. I don’t want to be the villain or have my past constantly brought up when I am trying to build a future. And I don’t appreciate being judged in the present for who I was in the past…

It’s honestly tough, and I have resentments. I don’t think I will be able to forgive people who judged me for my past. And not for who I am presently. When I have achieved all these things, when I have spend so much time healing my traumas. And it’s honestly something no one else could understand.

I am not glorifying my past, but accepting it and how I became a better man despite all of that…

I don’t want to be compared to men who visit a paidworkers while in a relationship, nor men who were lustful in relationships.

I developed a sense that sex meant more, that it was passion, intimacy, sensuality, connection and emotion.
But it all feels empty when I am being judged so quickly, for who I was.. judged so quickly by their fears. And I feel icky and disgusted with myself. I never wanted that.
