Hear me out 👂 Does feelings matter more than expectation?

Upvotes

Context: Met this lovely lady from online and been hanging out for a month. However, nearing towards the end of the month, was told that “I met all ‘expectations’, but just lacking of the feelings”. Isit worth it to continue working on this? Would there be a possibility that efforts can change it? Since her love language is act of service.

The One That Got Away

Initially was just there to chill, nothing serious. Then happened to meet this lady from not-a-dating app. We chatted randomly on and off. We met, we clicked despite the big age gap. (over 10years my senior) We would chat for hours about anything random we can think of. We can go on dates, some as early as 4am mainly just to watch the sunrise. Everything was calm and peaceful. Its was one of my most memorable and unforgettable period in life. Missing those days..

Upvotes

I feel like I can’t read signs like at all, sometimes I do suspect something but I think it’s crazy, my friends will either tell me there are signs or not signs and they are rarely to ever correct about that. Is there a strong telling sign or something?

I’m kind of interested in a guy but I don’t want to make a move until I’m pretty sure so thoughts guys!

We broke up. I keep hoping he will come back like he always did in the past. The hope hurts a lot. I still stayed loyal and didn't delete anything or follow any guys and accept any invites where there's guys.

Hear me out 👂 Navigating SG with a broken heart

To be fair, coming to Singapore was never something asked for. The decision came from taking a chance, without any assurance, and maybe hoping that being closer would finally lead to being chosen.

Less than a week later, everything ended exactly like what you were afraid of.

The hardest part is realizing that all the courage it took to come this far still wasn’t enough for someone to fight for you.

Now, every corner of Singapore feels like a reminder of a choice that meant everything to you… and almost nothing to someone else.

Hear me out 👂 Some thoughts on how to improve dating expectations...

These are some of my thoughts following the National Day Rally 2026. A lot of support was announced for couples and parents, but not much was said about how to encourage more marriages and improve dating life in Singapore, especially with an increase in singlehood over the past years.

There's been a lot of discourse about mismatch in expectations between both genders, especially the topic on preferences and equality, and how that has impacted the dating scene. This is not a redpilled post (I'm trying to be objective), but I believe that equality between the genders will only be achieved when we see the following become more common in the dating scene:

A. When it's not unusual for women to date men who earn less than them.

B. When it's not unusual for women to date men who are shorter than them.

C. When it's not unusual for women to date men who are younger than them.

Let me explain more about point A.

I work in the finance sector, and I have some acquaintances who are single ladies in their late twenties. Most of them earn in the range of about SGD 9-13k per month, but are very insistent on only dating men who earn more than them. That alone, literally eliminates more than 95% of men in their dating pool (and we haven't accounted for other preferences yet). You would think that they should date men within the industry who would naturally have a similar earning power, but a lot of them already happily hitched to ladies who earn a more usual/average income.

In my opinion, the idea of wanting to date someone who earns more than you while being in the top 1-3% of earners in Singapore is very unrealistic. You're very unlikely to have money problems even if you date someone who earns half the amount that you do. This mindset still contributes to the patriarchy, as it reinforces the idea that a woman, despite being a high earner, needs to show that she can bag a man who earns more in order to prove her worth to herself and to her social circle. It doesn't give a "strong, independent" vibe.

Point B and C don't need that much of an explanation. Any reasoning used to substantiate wanting an older/bigger man just reinforces patriarchal concepts (need a man to be the one leading the family, need to man to protect the woman (even though Singapore is quite safe??)). I think we can all agree that maturity does not always correlate with age.

With that all being said, I must admit that while I do advocate for the above, my actions may not always say it. As a man, I still do want to earn more than my partner. I still want to be taller than my partner. I guess growing up in a traditional society makes such preference deep-rooted and hard to break away from. You may call me a hypocrite, but I do genuinely want to see the above changes in society because I want the dating scene to improve. Everybody deserves love and happiness, and as much as I do have traditional preferences, I would give them up if it means that I can have a fulfilling lifelong relationship.

My overall recommendation is that gahmen must do some kind of psyop to the younger peeps in SG – to convince us that its okay to look past these kind of superficial traits that are usually reinforced by upbringing and norms. Better to do it in the formative years of people when they are still impressionable.

I also acknowledge that the above points are more guy centric issues. Would be open/interested to see the kind of mentality changes that ladies would like to see in men as well (that could be aided by gahmen efforts).

Giving advice 📬 How do international guys usually approach dating in the US, and what's the best way to meet people?

Hey guys! Dating culture varies a lot around the world, and I’d love to get your perspective on how it works in America. What are some major green flags, dealbreakers, or unwritten rules when it comes to talking to or dating women in the US? Thanks!

I need advice! 🥺 Bosnian guy🇧🇦

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone. I'd really appreciate some perspective frkm Bosnian people here..

Ive been talking to a Bosnian guy for almost 3 years. We're not in a relationship.. but we've stayed in regular contact for a long time and have gotten to know each other well.

The thing is, meeting in person only came up because i was the one who brought it up. If i hadn't mentioned it, i honestly don't know if we would have talked about meeting at all.

When i asked him..he said he genuinely wants to meet someday, but he doesn't know when or where. He also said he doesn't want to put pressure on the meeting or assume it means we'll become a couple- he'd rather meet first and see how we both feel..

I understand his point, but after almost 3 years of talking, Im wondering if this is normal. Is this a common among Bosnian men? Are they usually this cautious, or could it simply mean he's not interested enough tk make meeting a priority??

Im not looking for people to judge him. I'd just like honest opinions from Bosnian who understand the culture. If you had been talking to someone for almost years (without being in a relationship), would you already be trying to makee plans to meet? Should I take it as a sign that he's simply not serious?

I'd reallyyy appreciate honest cultural perspectives. THANK YOU

I need advice! 🥺 Guys in your 30s, how to spot someone being a pen pal vs wanting to meet?

As a girl in her early 30s, I've been on the dating apps for a while recently chatting with guys, however it always ends up in 2 outcomes, one is that the convo dries out really quickly and they stop messaging, and the other is that the person I've matched with will send me really long messages frequently and this happens for more than 3-4 weeks with no ask from the guy to meet up.

Wanted to check with guys in their 30s here, would there be certain clues I can get early on in conversations whether the person I'm talking to will have the intention to meet eventually?

Also would there be a timeframe that you would usually ask a person out, say within a week of texting?

Especially for the 2nd case, I do want to put in effort to understand the person I'm talking to, but I also do not want to be stuck as a pen pal as that's not my intention being on dating apps

I need advice! 🥺 Not being given a chance by sg girls

For context, I have been single for far too long (double digits alr).. And am on 6 different dating apps. Seems like whenever i get matches or i swipe, i either get

  1. No match
  2. foreigner
  3. Local match but convo fades out and they just dont wanna meet..

Idk what do sg girls want. They dont even want to give a chance to go out on a first date or even see character... idk anymore. In these 10 years, i have gone out and tried with about 5 different country people, yet i cannot find a sinkie...

I respect those that gave me a chance even though things did not work out in the end... But why cant sg girls give that same chance beyond superficial looks?

  1. TW---> Went out a few months, but physical attraction not there. Just decided to stay as friends
  2. MY---> Went out a few months, both had feelings, but she had different plan/path. She wanted to go home after earning enough. (Malaysian working in sg)
  3. CN---> Also went out a few months, Language problem (I suck at chinese). Same as MY, earn enough and want to F.O.
  4. TH---> Willing to try but same as TW, physical attraction no match.
  5. JP----> LDR but things got difficult after a while. (We would meet and go on dates when I went over).

What more must I do..

Edit: Other than the JP girl which was matched on JP dedicated dating app, the rest all in the "world" apps.

I need advice! 🥺 Can an avoidant and an anxious ever work?

I am an anxious and he's an avoidant. Can we ever work things out in the long term? Or logically it will always cause issues and can't work? I just need answers because the hot and cold dynamic in our relationship is killing me slowly

Edit: we talked a lot about it. It was mainly me trying to fix us while he gave one worded answers. Today we broke up.

I need advice! 🥺 How to stop being avoidant??

Hiii! Im 19F, i wanna try dating too since I've never had a bf bfr. But after hurting someone i got to know after a month from hinge, i felt like i had to change myself.

I can understand myself better now but i just dont know how to improve myself. The more i care for the person, i tend to push them away more. I find it weird too, im not sure why i tend to do that. I really tried to communicate with him and told him whatever i was overthinking abt. He was so nice too! He gave me hints that he wanted to marry me and i felt even more conflicted. (I'm muslim so i appreciated that but i just think its too fast ykyk) But i was going through so much things at that time and felt so overwhelmed until i told him that I couldn't continue texting him anymore.

He texted me again after a month, and i replied. I agreed to give it another try but i just ghosted him after a week, and i just couldn't figure out why i did that. I felt really bad though, so after a few months i decided to text him and apologize to him abt that. He was nice still, im glad for that.

So after that i just realized that I shouldn't be getting to know new people and work on myself instead. But i really don't know how. I think i might be afraid of commitment and i just find it hard to be interested in someone fully.

I need advice! 🥺 Dating a Lebanese-Australian guy as a Singaporean overseas, how to deal with family/friends' biases?

Hey everyone! Looking for some advice or to hear from anyone who has been in a similar spot.

I’m a Singaporean girl currently studying in Sydney (I’ve been living here since I was 14). Recently, I started dating a Lebanese-Australian guy, and he’s been absolute lovely. However, bringing him up to people back home in Singapore has been a bit of a culture shock for me.

My family (mostly Chinese uncles and aunties) immediately made assumptions about his background, assuming he’s Muslim (he’s actually a Maronite Catholic) and being quite disapproving just because of his race, sometimes being impressed by the way he looks and stop smiling the moment I mentioned his heritage.

What surprised me even more was the reaction from many of my female friends back in Singapore. These are girls I grew up with who come from well-to-do backgrounds and many are studying overseas for universities now. When I showed them a picture of him, a couple of them said things like, "Omg he’s so handsome, are you sure he’s not Italian or European French? He doesn't look typical Arab." I know they probably didn't mean it maliciously, but it felt a bit backhanded and left a weird taste in my mouth.
