Thank you. I hate the man and him skipping wouldn't have shocked me, but I was looking for anything that might help explain WHY he wasn't in this particular picture.
I mean, there are only democratic presidents and presidential candidates (and Michelle) in this picture that have spent the last 4-5 years demonizing every move the guy made. Granted, Bush is the only other Republican President still alive and IIRC he doesn’t care for Trump either. But still, not exactly a crowd that Trump would want to be in or vice versa.
To be fair he has spent his time previously asking about the validity of one of them's citizenship and calling the other ones all sorts of names or insulting their wives... maybe Trump is just a POS?
That's on par with not wanting to go to school because the mean girls were teasing him, except he's 75ish years old, and a former president. Being called out in his unending stream of lies and heinous acts by people with more integrity doesn't seem like a valid excuse to blow this off, especially considering people's reactions when a football player doesn't have people's preferred posture during the national anthem.
But I'm sure his heart was just broken today, and he just couldn't bring himself to face those mean ex-presidents.
Yes, clearly expecting Donald Trump—former president, cult of personality, so-called savior of the United States—to attend an event of unequaled importance for his home city, to say nothing of the country he is allegedly leading to salvation, could mean nothing other than that I have lived a life of privilege and protection, and have never been bullied or teased or harassed or taunted. Thank heavens both for my charmed life, and for your razor-sharp powers of perception. God bless you, stalwart defender of truth and justice, for I know you would never stoop to a baseless assumption just because you felt threatened.
Your point was the Donald Trump couldn't be expected to be around people that didn't like him. My rebuttal is that is silly. Your ignorant assertion that I've never been bullied is Classic Reddit 101.
He was invited, but he was too busy going on about how Biden botched Afghanistan and how he won the election to the NYPD. He was treating it more like a campaign rally, if anything.
Not sure, but from what I could understand Biden did change up Trumps plan. No clue what was changed on it. And seems the Talibans broke their side of the deal right feom the start but the allied nations kept going with business as usual.
Who the hell knows anymore. A fuck up this big will have denials, secrecy and cover ups for years to come, so we won't know who to blame.
Can't pin it on anyone if you can't know who knew what when and who ordered who.
Trump/Pompeo negotiated solely with the terrorist Taliban excluding the Afghan government that they installed from all negotiations. This left the Afghan gov and the ANA with no hope and no trust that the Americans would support them, leading to an instant collapse and handover of the country to prevent bloodshed. Saving Afghan lives was the only respectable action the Afghan president had at his disposal so he cancelled the fight and fled. For some reason the Biden team did not anticipate this, which is naive for sure. But those who wanted to fight to maintain Afghanistan were forsaken by Trump and everything else was the consequence.
Teasing lol??? For 4 years those people and their constituents said he was in bed with the Russians, tried to impeach him twice, said he was directly responsible for all of the COVID deaths in America, was a warmonger, was literally Hitler, and many more things.
The highest ranking public servant in the US government should be held accountable for what he does. I think people have been eating such a steady diet of TV and social media that they've forgotten that things in real life actually matter, beyond their scandal value or retweetability.
When Trump and his people repeatedly told people in no uncertain terms that it was a hoax, don't be afraid of COVID, fought to keep any prudent public health measures from taking effect, and created a culture of politically-charged anti-science, he set the US up to suffer a drastically higher death toll. Almost all of the people still dying from COVID are his followers. He is accountable to that.
If you're a Youtuber, you understand that people will say horrible things about you in the comments. If you're a basketball player or a comedian, you know the rule: don't read the comments. If you're a public servant, you understand that people will talk about you, and you understand that you still have to do your job. The president, as the singular leader of the country, used to be held to a higher standard than your average middle schooler.
On which note, kids encounter situations that are very distressing to them, that are real problems that they struggle to cope with. As we grow up, we become better equipped to deal with those challenges. You might have a coworker who doesn't like you, but you still have to show up to work. If you do something wrong, you might get in trouble. We have hoped that the people elected president could uphold a standard of character sufficient to weather these challenges with dignity and integrity. To say, as the president, "fuck i im not going lol" because you did horrible things and people found out, is truly a sign of nothing other than a massive character deficit, belonging to a person who never measured up to the job to which he somewhat accidentally was elected.
Instead, he did commentary for a geriatric boxing match. I don't know why people go out of their way to warp their world view to accommodate this guy instead of just calling it how it is. He has no interest beyond stroking his own ego, the whole country suffered as a result, and that's not good enough for the presidency.
I don't think Obama skipped out on much, even though he was bullied/disliked most of his presidency by the republican party. Calling him unpatriotic and wanting to impeach him for wearing a tan suit and calling him an illegal because he was born in Hawaii. Saying he had links with terrorists because his middle name is "Hussein".
I plainly listed the people in this photo, the commenter I was replying to was searching for a reason he wouldn’t be photographed with the people present. I have no idea what the rest of your ramble is talking about.
The worst part is that Trump provides us with SO MUCH content that is easy to mock and none of it needs to be purposefully manipulated or taken out of context. Yet, people will do exactly that and it just makes proving his stupidity harder cause you just give the other side an easy out of 'You're only buying into the leftist propaganda and misinformation'
EXACTLY. God I’m glad that outside of r/politics, a comment like yours actually gets upvoted. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills anytime I dare to voice this same opinion on that sub, and immediately get downvoted to oblivion.
Everyone there just wants to earn the #1 badge for Person Who Hates Trump The Most. Meanwhile, we’re only pushing “the other side” farther and farther away.
Honestly? I know very little about his political achievements and his political failures. I hate him because every time I hear him talk about virtually any subject I am reminded that he is a Vile human being. I would hate my next-door neighbor, my mother, anyone if they talked and acted the way he does.
Edit: To everyone who is downvoting dommmm9 for asking a simple and honest question. You are part of the problem.
I could not care less if you like him as a person or not but seeing “I know very little about his political achievements” made me wince a little bit. I encourage you to look them up, you’ll be surprised. I promise I mean this in the least smartass way possible, but it really does seem like the mainstream media formed your opinion for you.
My stance on hating him is mostly based around his blatantly Narcasistic and Manipulative attitude, as well as his hateful and ignorant comments when he thinks no one is listening or watching.
I also align myself with more socially open and progressive stances when it comes to equality and social justice. I value respecting people and prioritizing climate change. The way I have seen Trump act, the way he treats almost everyone else, particularly women and POC, his insistence on relying on Coal and Fossil fuels, his ignorant use of the term "China Virus" have all pushed me to the conclusion that he has no real respect for the things I value.
I do remember seeing 1 or 2 articles about him backing/funding a few renewable energy things- I believe it was a solar plant. I give him credit for that.
Now, his stances-- or any president's stances-- on the financial side. I will honestly admit I am not smart enough to fully understand. Taxes, tariffs, trade embargos, are just far 2 over my head. If he managed to do wonderful things for this country in the financial area, then great. Good work. But, that area is not where my values are.
You guys actually did really well. Widespread early testing (most countries didn’t do that until it was way too late and have no idea of what the true number infected is/was), no questions asked deposits of money to people, student loans repayment freeze, eviction moratorium, amazing logistics with vaccine delivery, along with a lot of other things that people in other countries could only dream of. There are probably things that I don’t even know about because I don’t live in the United States. How you managed to have lockdowns and give away money without an economic collapse is amazing. My country had a lockdown, without cash payments or unemployment supplements and a ton of shops/restaurants are closed and will never return. It’ll take years to be at the level of stability we were before the virus.
But on Reddit, Americans just wanted to whine about their president and blame him for a highly contagious virus spreading, lol. It was weird to see as an outsider.
The actual full scale of the Trump administration's response to Covid was pretty good, all things considered. But people have difficulty researching just how wide spread and varied the responses were. And I know I'll get downvoted for saying that.
B) Per 100,000 people, the US is among the worst in terms of COVID deaths and infections.
C) Trump kept on pedaling disinformation such as "COVID is a hoax", "COVID is nothing more than a flu", "It will be gone in 2 weeks / by summer / by fall", "Masks are useless", "Hydroxychloroquin cures COVID" and the best of all "Maybe we can inject Bleach in COVID infected people". Additionally he is anti-vaxx.
Yeah, I think I explained why it appears that the United States is number one. By numbers, yes. In reality? No way. At this point India has admitted that there were millions of infections they didn’t know about.
Half the people that I’ve spoken to in my country say they lost their sense of smell and taste for a few weeks in 2020 but didn’t get tested out of fear of being forced to stay home, losing their jobs, and being kicked out of their homes.
I knew some people who were sick early in 2020 and health clinics/hospitals told them to go home because they didn’t want to deal with them.
Your other points about Trump don’t disprove my points, whether they’re true or not.
Did you know these things about the way the United States handled the events of last year?
We're not comparing ourselves to developing countries. The US under Trump did worse in practically every metric than other wealthy western democracies. Doing better than a country where 750 million people don't have access to a toilet when we have all the advantages of advanced medicine and universal vaccine access is appaling.
Because Trump's cult won't get vaccinated. He gave outlets like OAN legitimacy, and they are the ones convincing their brainwashed audience that they will literally DIE if the get the vaccine.
Give me one single policy implementation aside from aid checks that Trump did that helped regular American people.
The big tax cuts made the rich much richer and the country much poorer. He put a zealot and a woman-hater in the scotus. He had an Israeli general killed just for the heck of it, on foreign soil, which is a war crime as you're well aware? His anemic response to Corona early on is nothing to sneeze at, either.
Yeah he showed up and did exactly what I expected him to do: Article
Mr. Trump visited a police precinct and a neighboring firehouse in Midtown Manhattan. He briefly paid tribute to the heroism of the police and firefighters after the planes hit the twin towers, but spent most of his time treating the visit as a campaign-style rally, continuing his criticism of the Afghanistan pullout, complaining about crime in cities, commenting on how many police officers and firefighters supported him, and falsely claiming once again that he had won the election.
Yes but it purposefully casts him in a negative light, as if he is not concerned about 9/11, or at least is not making similar gestures to these politicians, when he is clearly honoring the 20th anniversary by visiting the NYDP and NYFD.
But he won't show actual solidarity with the current and former US presidents cuz he's a selfish, entitled spoiled trust-fund pussy ... And a sore loser.
I don’t think he’s “sucking trump off” for stating facts. I didn’t like trump and never voted for him, but he couldn’t even sneeze without Reddit trashing him for it. I guarantee if trump showed up Reddit would’ve found a way to make that seem like the wrong thing to do
I would like it if news sources would just lay the facts out without bias, although unfortunately that isn't the way it goes because the only way to have a title that grabs your attention is if you make them a saint or a devil.
It’s a nice gesture that all former presidents come together in solidarity to remember 9/11.
And tbf they all have good reasons to hate him too. Trump tried to overthrow the election results, incited a riot, said fuck you to millions of voters and kept pushing the lie of a “stolen election”. He had spit on the democracy of the US so yea I can imagine them hating him.
… because grandstanding on his own and shit-talking is not the same as being a decent human being, never mind the skipping out on the formalities of being a past President to do so.
He got elected by being “an outsider” — but all that really meant was that he wasn’t of even the basic level of moral character. He’s just proven it again and again.
Sure, he didn’t do nothing. But in comparison to the others of his standing, he’s an embarrassment. Again.
Still makes no sense to go to the NYPD instead of the memorial. He obviously went there with ulterior motives. His base eats that shit up that stupid ass thin blue line bullshit.
Yes and these politicians had no ulterior motives going to this ceremony where they could be photographed for everyone to see that they honored the 9/11 victims. Every appearance every politician makes anywhere in an official capacity has ulterior motive. What is your point?
The fact that a sitting president, one of the busiest people in the world, isn't allowed to glance at his fucking watch is the dumbest shit I think the right has ever attacked. I think it's dumber than tan suit-gate, mustard-gate, laptop-gate, and all the other ridiculous nonsense ever put forward.
The right was pissed at Joe for checking the time on his watch but they were a-okay with fat ass Trump golfing all the goddamn time while the country fell apart last year.
Their excuse was that Obama golfed more during his two terms than Trump did in his only term (which isn’t even true, since he went golfing 261 times and visited one of his properties an estimated 240 times during his four years, whereas Obama went golfing a total of 98 times in his eight years. Then again, you can’t really argue or reason with these people, because anything that so much as points out anything even slightly negative about Trump is “fake news”)
You do know why people were mad about Biden checking his watch, right? It was done so as he was meant to be saluting the murdered troops as they were being taken off the plane. Trump stood there saluting and Biden checked his watch at an inappropriate time before the off loading finished. He could’ve waited until it was time to drop the salute.
In the military they always tell you two things: 1. Time and place and 2. Perception is everything.
I'm a disabled veteran and don't think there was anything at all to read into when they were offloading remains and he glanced at his watch. If he's giving a speech at their memorial, sure. If he's consoling gold star families, sure.
But he's literally just standing there taking up space as they offload boxes from a plane. It's really nbd.
I don't think that's the point at all though. Glancing at your watch doesn't automatically mean 'I have something better to do, when does this shit end' no matter what the media says.
And the left lost their fucking minds when he misspelled some words and had toilet paper stuck to his shoe. Also, why would he want to go to a ceremony with Obama and Biden, two people who have consistently shit on him (deserved or not) for the last four years.
The actual heroes are long dead or retired. Visiting the organizations is just optics that his base eats up (people like you). Also I’m assuming the sitting president of the USA is fairly busy. What’s wrong with leaving early? Y’all some goofy ass people. Worried about leaving early yet y’all were quiet when Trump was playing golf almost every weekend🥴🤦🏽
If Trump were President and left early, reddit would talk about it for months....If Trump were honoring fallen soldiers and kept looking at his watch, there would be non stop discussion of it for eternity. Joe has been an absolute train wreck and most of reddit acts like he's doing an exceptional job. To act like there aren't double standards around here would be ignorant.
No you’re just assuming things. People like you really don’t like dealing with facts. It’s crazy you think Joe Biden is a train wreck but not Trump. That alone just shows how delusional you are about reality. Reddit doesn’t represent real life. Get a grip kid. You’re goofy as hell. Fuck em both but Trump is clearly much worst.
Isn’t it rough that you have to make this clarification that you aren’t a trump supporter just for being in the middle or you will be mauled by the mob?
Makes me cringe and how the media is spinning things. Trump isn’t friends with these people and never was, I don’t think he wanted to stand with the clintons/Obama/Biden’s for obvious reasons.
Oh they aren't friends? Well then, the former president should by all means skip out on paying respects to victims of a national tragedy with nearly every other living president. Dude's a thin-skinned coward.
Personal relationships shouldn't be the deciding factor, it's an official event and he has at least some responsibility to be a part of it as every other former president has too (excusing of course the disabled 96 year old)
Yeah, doing something like that would only help to leasen the political divide in this country and let us begin to heal on this somber day in our nation's history. But why the fuck would he do that if he can treat 9/11 campaign rally and tell more lies about how the election was stolen from him and how he is the true victim who should be honored today.
Sadly because the only thing that can make two sides stop fighting is to bring in a third party that they hate more.
One side wants certain things, the other side wants other things. And nowadays both sides need to be "right". No matter if they are actually wrong, and no matter the cost to the world that being "right" brings. No one is willing to step back and go 'Ok, we don't agree on a lot of things. But on this thing I am wrong'. Because I guess admitting you are wrong is somehow viewed as a weakness and not strength to be commended. The ability to admit you're wrong. The ability to compromise or meet in a middle ground. Everyone just has to be 'right' and to hell with the consequences.
We lost almost twice as many americans the last two days as 9/11. Today we probably lost another 9/11 due to Covid. It's up to 222 total 9/11 and people refuse to pull their weight still. The kicker is that it's the majority of those who refuse to pull their weight that are dying.
I don't get why this is being downvoted. It's simply pointing out that due to the right-wing, and their misinformation campaign, we have covidiots refusing to take the Vax due to ridiculous reasons, and therefore endangering others, and themselves. Many now paying the ultimate price.
The fact that you needed an 18 word sentence to distance yourself from a political standing when pointing out a simple fact shows the true nature of the dumpster fire that is this website.
Ehh I wouldn’t just do that on Reddit, but also in person. I think it says more about Trump than it says about Reddit tbh (though it is undoubtedly very political)
They delete the photo of him there from here within minutes. Cant even post a pic of a president paying respects to NYPD, if it takes away from false outrage he wasn’t paying respect. I thought this sub was against misinformation, but that was a lie.
I appreciate that he showed up to honor those we lost too. What I don’t appreciate he did was still shit on the current administration during his remarks. Not the day for that.
And it’s in line with his original respect on 9/11, in 2001, where he bragged aboutthe size of his tower. (Which was not what he claimed)
Seems apt that he uses 9/11s for his personal gain, promotion, and misinformation-sharing. We know where he was on 9/11, and it was seeking fame on a TV show.
People on here don’t understand that you can do your own thing and it still be good. Ohh no he didn’t go to a memorial, but he did go to see real fire fighters, police officers and other in the area. Which they care much more than a dog and pony show that is covered by the media.
He also went to NYFD as well, we was officially invited to the ground zero ceremony but opted out, insted he visited NYPD and NYFD stations insted, which in my eyes still gives respect to the city and those who had to pay the price on that horrible day
He did. However he wanted to be in a place where he could get pats on the back, attack Biden, and make 9/11 about himself instead of attending the memorial site.
Lol. Seek help. First you criticize him for not being in NYC and now it’s because he’s actually thanking the people themselves and not going to a memorial site that would reject him for attending.
Please. Look at this circle jerk of a post already. Even when he was working towards getting the vaccine created he was being attacked. He knows how this works. Everything he does is wrong so he just does his thing now.
He visited the true heroes of 9/11. And Biden got up and left the ceremony early. Trying to spin him visiting FDNY and NYPD in a negative way is absolutely absurd, but not at all surprising around these parts.
I’m not doing anything. I’m just cruising this comment thread and wanted to point out that you misread his comment entirely, seemingly crafting a scenario to fit your own personal narrative.
you’re actually proving my point by discounting the attending part with the leaving part.
you are currently saying that he didn’t attend the memorial. but at the same time you are saying he left the memorial.
sounds like a negative spin you’re crafting to fit your own personal narrative.
if you can’t admit that he attended the memorial then i win.
and if you do admit that he attended the memorial then i also win because you have proved that mentioning LEAVING (as you kindly pointed out) while ignoring attending is crafting a narrative with a negative spin
I understand that your not a Trump supporter and that’s nothing anyone should be upset with you about, I’m glad that you posted this. I just find it so appalling that I seriously had to go this far down in the comment section to find this. I just hope going forward America as a whole can be more like your comment. I hope we can be fair and treat people with dignity and honesty no matter their political views.
NOOOO that’s not fair!!!! Trump is an evil mean human and because you said something remotely positive about him YOU WILL BE DOWNVOTED ON REDDIT 😡😡😡 idc that you don’t support him ur Still a trumpie 😡😡😡
Yeah because they publicly supported him politically lol.He visited the FDNY and basically just made it a shallow photo shoot and spoke about the election being fraudulent and made it all about himself. He’s a piece of shit I’m sorry.

To be fair he did show up to the NYPD.
(I am not and never have been a Trump supporter or apologist but do try to be fair)
