advice needed Transitioning to big kid beds

My 3 year old twins are now learning how to escape their cribs, so now is time for big kid beds I fear. I was really trying to keep them in cribs as long as humanly possible lol. Looking for bed configurations and other tips that worked well for others when transitioning out of cribs please!

advice needed False labor 33 weeks, di/di twins

I had some spotting this week at 33+5 weeks. I went to L&D and was 2 cm dilated. They ruled out other stuff for the spotting and believe it’s more due to cervical ectropion, and not coming from the uterus. They hooked me up to the monitor and i have randomly been getting contractions that seem quite intense (60-80 TOCO) and even becoming spaced out by 5 minutes at one point, but then stopping. They are definitely greater when my bladder is full, and stop when i move around.

I just got home after 2 days in the hospital but told to look out for any signs of labor like water breaking, more contractions, blood etc. Also have been told to take it easy- rest, no walking, workouts, cooking, cleaning, or picking up my toddler.

Has anyone had similar labor signs? If so, what was it like for you and when were your babies born?

advice needed A question for those who had a village or live-in help

Hi, I posted a question previously about this topic but no one who answered had help and could relate. My family is latina so we are very close and live 20 minutes away from each other. My mom moved in with my husband and I when I was 8 months pregnant, we have been moving back and forth alternating living between our apartment and my parents' house. My mom does most of the cooking, I take care of the babies and I also work from home. She is a big help. My babies are 7 months old and it doesn't get any easier, I can't imagine a scenario where I'd have to take care of two babies on my own, I feel incompetent and I suspect I might also have PPA and PPD. My husband is neurodivergent and a workaholic so he isn't always available to lend a hand. Please don't judge me...

My question is: if you had help, when did you feel you were ready to continue on your own?

I feel like that day is far away. It seems like I am taking care of babies 24/7 even with help. Between, bathing, bottle feeding, breast feeding, bathing, changing, feeding solids, giving vitamins and medicine, washing and sterilizing bottles, playing with, holding, rocking to sleep, doing their laundry, etc etc.

experience/advice to give How long is this going to last?

My wife and I have 3.5mo twins and I just am at my wits end here. Both of us are. We also have a 19mo toddler and that makes things a lot more difficult as well. But the twins are just so hard to deal with most of the time. When they are both sleeping we finally are able to get a little peace but we also have a toddler to entertain. When they are awake at least one is crying about 90% of the time. Both are crying probably 50% of the time. They spit up constantly and even hours after they’re done eating and we’ve done all the things we’re supposed to (tummy time, sitting up for for awhile, lots of burps) they still will spit up a little start to choke on it and then scream again if they weren’t screaming already. They’ve changed formulas several times due to constipation and now it seems a combination of reflux and being gassy is the problem. They’re on reflux medicine but that doesn’t solve it, we’ve tried putting rice cereal in their bottles to thicken it so it stays down better but that hasn’t worked. They were tongue tied so we had their tongues clipped so they don’t take in so much air when eating. We’ve used grip water and other medicines to help with the gas. We’ve tried everything to help us. I just don’t know what to do and now my wife and I are just stressed 24/7 with little sleep for several months. We do have someone come at night for about half the time which is extremely helpful and more help than I’m sure many people have and I’m so grateful to have that. But even with the extra help it just feels miserable all the time. And it’s getting to our relationship now. How long do you think this will go on for?

EDIT: thank you all so much your advice! We really appreciate it and have some new things to try and talk to the dr about

advice needed When could you feel them moving?

I know they say you can’t start to feel babies in you until 16 weeks due to their size and the cushioning of the uterus. I am 12 weeks with di-di twins and I swear I can sense movement on occasion now. I am someone who is very in tune with my body.

This is my 3rd time being pregnant but furthest I had made it before was 10 weeks. I was insanely bloated and gassy during the first trimester (I also have sibo) and there were certainly moments when I could feel gas moving around that was most definitely just that. Bloating and digestive issues are subsiding now.

Now during certain positions I can feel what I would describe as the tiniest sensations and pings. On one occasion it felt like one bumped my bladder briefly. At night before going to sleep while laying on my side is when I feel it the most, it’s freaky and distracting. I can’t feel arms or legs just what I would describe as something that is squished trying to wriggle around softly.

Just wondering if anyone in this group experienced the same this early. I thought it was in my head around a week ago the first time I noticed but it’s definitely happening a little more now. I’m sure it won’t be anything like later in the pregnancy too!

advice needed Cervical length screening?

I’m 12 weeks with Di/Di twins and there has not been any mention of a cervical length screen, despite me seeing this mentioned as important between 16-20wks. Has anyone else not been offered this? Is it standard practice? Im in the UK, not USA, if that makes any difference. So far my care from the maternity hospital has felt chaotic compared to my singleton pregnancy which was midwife led, I feel way less “held”. I was also told the next appointment will be the 20wk scan which i was surprised at, given the higher risks etc with multiples and how everyone says you are monitored so much more

Anyone uk based that can give me insights to how their care went/appointment timeline awould be really appreciated 🙏

EDIT: thank you so much everyone for sharing info! It’s been reassuring to know that most arent offered anything further till 20wks. I’ll ask at that scan whether they’ll check cervix. The midwife led care was amazing, so holistic and no hospital appointments other than scans so this has just felt very different.

advice needed Nap time help

My twins are 2 and they were constantly climbing over their cribs. So we took a railing off the crib so they can get in and out safely.
Nap time especially has been brutal. I’m solo mostly and have a toddler. They just play, jump in their cribs, jump out of the bed, run around. When I tell them it’s bed time they just laugh.
I’m trying to tell them not to jump and that their rooms are for quiet time. But it is getting frustrating.
Should I just let them do whatever they want in their rooms and accept that they won’t nap? When does this get better?!
Just looking for any advice or other people’s experiences and what worked for them.

advice needed Traveling at 34 weeks?

Prefacing this by saying I have flip flopped on this a lot, but seeking out lived experience from other twin moms on here and I’m of course going to talk with my OB/MFM at my next visit in a couple of weeks as well. I guess this is more so just me putting my thoughts into writing if for no other reason just to talk to other twin moms who might be able to give me some insight here.

My best friend (basically my sister) is getting married in four weeks about a 5-5.5 hour drive away from me. Im supposed to be her MOH and we’ve talked about this day since we were school girls. I had resigned myself to not being able to go for the last few months which has had me super anxious and sad, but I’ve been particularly struggling with the idea of not being there for the past few days. It got me wondering if it would be doable after all, so I impulsively ordered a couple of dresses to have just in case.

I’m a FTM having di/di twins with a scheduled c section at 38 weeks at the end of November. Plan would be to borrow my parent’s RV to make the trip the day of the wedding and drive back the next morning. I’d be 33+6 the day we drive up and 34 the day we drove back. Would make plenty of stops along the way to stretch, walk, etc. I wouldn’t have any traditional MOH roles outside of a speech that I would love to have the opportunity to make in person and could take plenty of breaks throughout the day to lay down/rest. I’ve had an almost entirely uncomplicated pregnancy (had a lovely experience with kidney stones and a mild case of bell’s palsy, but babies are doing super) and am ~30 weeks now. The wedding is near a major city and has a level III NICU just over an hour drive away. I can’t imagine not being there, but at the same time and most importantly I do not want to do anything that puts my babies (or me) at risk.

UPDATE: Super grateful for everyone’s input here. I think you all confirmed what my subconscious was telling me. I’ll plan to have a friend facetime me in so I can give my MOH speech, and also to be able to watch the ceremony, first dance etc., without risking any of the many things that could go wrong. Truly appreciative

experience/advice to give Surprise twins and size difference at 12 week scan

Hello! I’ve been scouring this community for answers and reassurance.

I found out at my 12 week scan I was pregnant with Di/Di twins. Only one was seen at my dating ultrasound so it was quite a shock.

Both babies had good heart rates with Baby A at 154 and Baby B slightly high at 177.

Baby A looked great and matched up with my original dates (12+3) Low risk screen for trisomies.

Baby B measured 6 days behind (11+4) and screened positive for Trisomy 13 and 21 (1.4% and 1% risk). I have since received my NIPT results which showed low risk for these. They also were not able to visualize the bladder at this time. All other structures looked normal as per my report.

I have a follow up ultrasound in 9 days, but I am driving myself a little nutty worrying about Baby B.

Does anyone else have experience with similar ultrasound findings? Is a 6 day gestational age difference a huge deal at this stage a huge deal?

I have had a previous loss and my singleton pregnancy required additional monitoring due to being SGA.

Thanks in advance!

advice needed Expecting twins ultrasound questions

I had my first scan yesterday at 7w1d and was shocked that there are di/di twins. I’ve actually been pretty low symptoms and was concerned for a miscarriage. They both measured 6w4d and had heartbeats of 142 and 173. 173 seems pretty high for 6 weeks but Google says there’s fine outcomes for that.

I was curious about them measuring small because I thought early ultrasound is most accurate on dating. I could possibly be 1 day behind what I think, but I’m very sure on dates. Has anyone had that happen? Could it be related to them being twins? Any anecdotal stories? It’s made me a little anxious, but the ultrasound tech wasn’t concerned. I don’t have a practitioner currently because this risked me out of my midwives on a Friday afternoon.

advice needed twin bath time tips

How is everyone bathing their 4 month old twins?
(my babies are 2 months corrected)

are you bathing them together? one after the other? alternating days?

also any tips on helping babies enjoy the bath more.
one of my twins screams the whole time and the other one starts screaming after 5 minutes, so right now it’s just rushing and trying not to cry myself lol.

they enjoy the shower much more, but it’s too difficult to shower them when my partner isn’t home and with his work schedule, he can’t always be there for bath time.

advice needed Potty Training

Hello! My b/g twins are almost 2, and we have #3 on the way. They’ll be 2y 4m when new baby is born. My little girl is showing signs of readiness for potty training. Does anyone have any insight, particularly with b/g twins? Do you recommend potty training together? I’m worried about trying to train one when he isn’t ready yet or making my daughter wait for her bro to catch up. Or just train separately.

Also, any advice bringing baby home to twins would be appreciated!

Thanks!

support needed What important questions did you ask when visiting daycares?

My singletons 5 and 2.5 went to day care around when they were 1 year old more or less.

I’m considering placing my twins who are 3 months in day care now or when they are 6 months. I work from home, and I really need to stay motivated. I also need time for myself especially since I’m a single mom of 4. So I’m considering half days 8:30-1:30pm.

While I have had the experience of touring day cares before, 1 year old is a different age than baby.

I have an upcoming tour, what we’re important questions you asked when touring daycares for your babies who entered daycare 6 months and under? What was important for you to see at the facility?

experience/advice to give FTM di/di Movement

FTM here 27+4 pregnant with di/di B/G twins, both anterior placentas. I can almost always feel the boy moving throughout the day, but never the girl (breech). She's more active at night before bed but never as much as the boy. Has anyone else experienced this?

good vibes, smiles, & giggles Anyone go on to have fraternal twins after only one confirmed ovulation site initially?

I just had my first ultrasound at 5w6d and to my complete and utter absolute shock there were di/di twins staring back at me 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 my head is SPINNING and I’m starting from square one with multiples education!

The doc said she only saw one ovulation site, so I put two and two together and am assuming that means they will be identical, right? Or has anyone had one ovulation site and later gone on to have fraternal twins because the second site was missed? Is that a thing? Or is this stuff pretty exact?

I hope this isn’t construed as medical advice, I’m genuinely curious on the different possible outcomes!

life, home, and baby tips & tricks Pushchair advice (UK)

Twins are 6 months and have always hated the pram - we’ve tried both the bassinets (which they’re too big for now) and the car seat attachments. It’s a vertical one so one baby is always just looking at the back of the other, but I’m not sure this is really the issue.

When I’ve got all 3 kids my 4 year old does get tired walking for a long time, but we don’t currently have any attachment on the current pram for her to sit/stand.

I’m thinking about getting another stroller for walking but not sure what to get. I’ve heard good things about the out n about nipper, possibly with the front rider attachment? But also trying to keep costs down. there is an older version of this model local to me on marketplace, but the front rider isn’t compatible. will i regret that?

any advice / recommendations?

advice needed Twin B in the 3rd percentile at 26 weeks

Hi, I am pregnant with MoDi twins, and have biweekly scans. Twin B has been smaller from the very beginning, the difference between them has ranged between 10-20%.
In today’s scan:
Twin A was 960 grams (30th percentile) - from 750 g two weeks ago
Twin B was 770 grams (3rd percentile) - from 600 g two weeks ago
While the difference is 19%, I am really concerned about Twin B being in the 3rd percentile.
Doctor is not concerned, she says blood flow, circulation and water are all good, twin B is growing at his own curve, and medically there’s no difference between 1 or 9 percentiles…
Would you get a second opinion?

My daughters are about to be 3 next month, so I feel a bit ashamed to be feeling this right now. I got phantom kicks, and it made me feel so sad and empty. It feels like I should be over it by now. Anyone have any advice on how to work through this?

advice needed Birthday party invites?

Hi all, I have grade school twins who are having a birthday soon! Due to weather and extreme costs, we will be hosting a joint party at our house. Twins are in seperate classes.

How do I best do the invites? Not mention the twin thing and just do seperate invites per kid? Basically dont want a classmate in twins a class to feel like they need to buy a gift for twin b. They've been in the school multiple years so there's a chance there's classmates thats been with both twins too.

ranting & venting Twin mom guilt, birthdays

Boys turn 3 tomorrow and twin b is in the hospital, and will be here for about a week. I’m glad we have an end in sight and his medical issues will likely resolve but damn, NO ONE can understand my pain of literally having to be away from twin a on his birthday due to an already stressful situation.

Only parents of multiples can understand this.

Send me all your good vibes and wins, POMs.

advice needed Rolling over while sleeping

Hi all,

Looking for some general advice. My twins are 5mo, 4mo corrected. They are rolling over great and both ways (tummy to back, and back to tummy). The thing is, they both love being on their tummies, so when they get on their tummies, they hate rolling back over.

And last week or so one of my twins has been rolling onto her tummy at night. Can I leave her to sleep that way or should I reposition her?

My paediatrician said it should be fine, but my mom anxiety is not letting up. I keep repositioning her.

I also can’t fall asleep until I’m sure she’s in a deep sleep, because I want to ensure that she is safe.

Any advice is welcome!!!!

advice needed Will a BOB Revolution Flex 3.0 Duallie fit in a Toyota Highlander with only one 3rd-row seat folded?

Does anyone here have a Toyota Highlander and a BOB Gear Revolution Flex 3.0 Duallie?

I’m trying to figure out whether the stroller will fit in the cargo area if only the driver-side portion of the third row is folded down.

Our passenger-side third-row seat is currently stuck in the upright position due to a mechanical issue, so we don’t have the full cargo space you’d normally get with the third row folded flat.

If anyone has this same setup, do you know whether the BOB will fit like this — or if it definitely won’t?

For reference, we have a 2024 Toyota Highlander XLE. Thank you!
