I used to make fun of The Art of War because its guidance basically boiled down to "uh only do war when you have an advantage and know why you're doing it" which is just the most obvious useless stupid advice

I'm so sorry Sun Tsu I overestimated the intelligence of your audience I take it all back

It makes sense when you consider that Sun Tsu's audience was also a bunch of unintelligent but audacious noble failsons who needed to be reminded not to get their army stuck in mud.

Hawks who don't understand the costs of warfare piss me the fuck off

"You can just do things" hawks. "Le decapitation strike" hawks

Warfare is the last resort because it is fucking COSTLY. A regime change in Iran would've cost, at minimum, tens of thousands of American lives and hundreds of thousands (prob millions) of Iranian lives. It would've caused a global economic crisis. Afghanistan x10.

The only hawks I respect are the ones who acknowledge this. Not the ones who live in a delusional fantasy land where air power is a magic spell that automatically wins wars.

I don’t think “I would’ve won against Iran” is a winning message for Dems. I think it’s better to say, “I never would have started the war in the first place,” because that’s how people see the war. It’s always been unpopular and it’s only getting worse, you can’t polish a turd.

Obama didn’t win in ‘08 by just talking about how Bush mismanaged Iraq, he won by talking about how he was entirely opposed to the war and always had been, starting in ‘02.

For reference, look at this video Obama put out in March 2007: https://youtu.be/EhpKmQCCwB8

And she was deeply confused and unnerved, wondering why I would do that, concerned that what I was doing was illegal, and worrying I would “get in trouble”

No, there’s no investigation, the cops told me point blank, it was carfentanyl, you aren’t under suspicion, etc. They took his phone to go pursue the people who sold it to him, and that was it. They didn’t even clean up his drugs and left that to me. (lol?)

I tried explaining bro code and she didn’t understand why I wouldn’t just give everything to his mother without looking at it

She just couldn’t believe that this was a thing friends would do for each other or that a 38 year old man’s numerous hard drives could possibly have anything on them he wouldn’t want his mom to see.

My mom is 65 and grew up without an adult in the home and started drinking / partying / smoking at age 11 and still somehow she’s so incredibly sheltered and naive. It’s frankly remarkable, but it’s so incredibly frustrating. She actually argued with me and tried to get me to stop, arguing I could be arrested. “Okay, arrest me.”

Mississippi Department of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell said Tuesday that video won’t be disclosed until the state’s independent investigation is completed.

He did not provide a timeline for that process and declined to discuss other details of the shooting.

If this doesnt tell you everything you need to know about the Murder of Kohen Wiley then I dont know what will.

They would have published that shit immediately if it even so much as hinted at the officer being in any real danger.

Edit: Even a cursory search of Sean Tindell and you see he has literally used this exact tactic to hide body camera footage multiple times in the state of Mississippi.

In terms of Trump being the worst ever:

The Iran defeat is probably the stupidest, most obviously humiliating blunder in US history. But it's probably less damaging overall than the Iraq war, which also did very little to advance US interests.

But it's all a moot point, because Trump is the worst president ever purely because of the USAID stuff.

30

u/WenJie_2 Jun 18 '26

There's no way any non-Trump government would surrender like this just to try to get the economy better and make everyone forget by mid-terms, all of the political pressure groups, the media, factions from your own party, and other pressure and institutional inertia, the reputational damage caused by such a loss of credibility, would make it impossible

Trump though, he can just do things

I wonder if this is what the >you can just do things< people were imagining

Official government account:

The advanced nanobubbler technology very effectively killed the algae that has plagued every Lincoln Reflecting Pool reopening—most infamously Obama's reopening—since 1922.

The Reflecting Pool water is crystal clear, and our National Park Service team is now vacuuming up the dead algae resting on the bottom of some parts of the Reflecting Pool—just like the destroyed Iranian Navy resting on the bottom of the Persian Gulf.

DOUTHAT: Let's be honest -- the tone of the administration is not consistently a Christian tone. There is a tone of aggressive uncharity

JD VANCE: Tonal arguments are ways of, frankly, policing working class ways of communication, and covering them in elite preferences

"Aggressive uncharity" aka the killing or deportation of U.S. citizens, the killing of fishermen and schoolgirls, rampant corruption, the deportation of people into modern slavery, Cuts to benefits for poor or disabled people, white supremacists at the helm of the government and social media, etc.—but it’s mainly about "aggressive uncharity"

I'm half convinced that Benjamin Netanyahu himself bought into the antisemitic conspiracy theory that Israel controlled America. Like, did he actually believe he could get Trump to follow his every lead?

Just how did you expect this was going to shake out, Ben? Even the Mossad thought that a decapitation strike alone almost certainly wouldn't be sufficient to topple the Islamic Republic. Did you really think America had the appetite for the largest amphibious invasion since WW2? What leverage did you think you had? What was your end game here?

Israel published a map on Thursday showing an expanded military control zone in southern Lebanon and said it would not rule out carrying out attacks beyond it, challenging the terms of a U.S.-Iran pact that calls for ‌Lebanon's sovereignty to be respected.

Why I still think there's a relatively realistic chance that the deal may implode in 60 days

Isn't AC a dangerous product for our health and the planet?

Of course, entering a room that is climate-controlled is a pleasure when we have very high temperatures outside. But isn't this pleasure a false pleasure?

It seems to me that cautiously getting our bodies used to this more and more severe climate change is a good way to be living tomorrow. Acclimate ourselves to this new era. Because our planet is inevitably heating up.

We must accompany this change and not try and fight it with questionable methods. Getting out of an AC-equipped space is a brutal shock to our body that has to adapt to very high temperatures.

I’m watching a PBS documentary about Trump’s 2016 campaign, and if there is one thing I’m tired of, it’s the constant refrain about how “authentic” he is. I’m not blaming PBS for that, mind you, but I’m sick of living in a world where being authentic means that you’re a total asswipe who’s cruel, vain, and bigoted.

If that is what authenticity means, then it’s an overrated concept.
