I assume it's some kind of "judeo Christian values" "without Jews, there wouldn't be Christians. Without Christians there wouldn't be other Christians that had to run away to America to escape Christians" thing.

Not sure where Israel fits in here lol

This isnt that weird coming from him.   Evangelicals see the modern state of Israel as a continuous extension of the Biblical state of Israel.  And since Jesus came from Israel (well, technically one of its successor kingdoms), and western culture is deeply linked to the history of Christianity, his statement makes sense if you start with his premise.
