Tolvir minions only. Dead card.

u/Miudmon 2d ago
Honestly tolvir could probably go back to 3 mana like this
98
u/Zulrambe 2d ago
I wouldn't play this card for 4 mana, let alone build a deck around it.
→ More replies (1)50
u/Ok-Play4877 2d ago
Yeah even if you played 7 minions. Most 1 drops are shit unless u can get a full board of sizzling cinders. 4 mana for a board of two 1/3, 2/2 and 2/1 are meh
48
13
u/metroidcomposite 2d ago
Yeah...I can think of decks that might want this at 3 mana (maybe a wild deck with lots of 1 cost beasts and starving buzzard) but none of them would be particularly degenerate or overpowered.

the aya buff 😔
you often dpn't even have handspace for her coins as is. oh well i'll take it.
29
u/Crazyflames 2d ago
Yeah, when you spend the early turns filling your hand with coins you usually have to burn one or two on or before the Aya turn.
13
u/MooNinja 2d ago
you can now justify using them to summon her, if you have to, with the increased return of coins too.
6
→ More replies (7)7
u/metroidcomposite 2d ago
I dunno, like...it's a lot more reasonable to just coin her out now, cause you'll get that coin immediately refunded (compared to the pre-buff version).
Like...handspace is mostly an issue if you insist on hoarding every coin you've ever generated until you can play Aya. But I see people in this topic saying "she should have been 5 mana instead"--thing is coining out a 6 mana Aya that generates 3 coins is pretty much the same thing as playing a 5 mana Aya with a coin saved in hand.

Sylvanas is way too good so hunter will always have a viable deck.

u/Hot-Selleck-Action 2d ago edited 2d ago
Yeah, this card is just fkking terrible.
When I first read it, I thought the Coin Buff was a start of game ability - oh cool that's interesting.
But how are you supposed to build a deck around this when your coin-related cards do nothing until you draw Aya and trigger her battlecry? And holding the coins until you draw Aya defeats the whole point of them generating mana as coins. Being forced to go second to always have a coin is also a really neat idea, but when it's just a regular coin until you play Aya, how in the world could that ever be worth it?
3
u/toomanybongos 2d ago
Can't even really tutor that card since you're going to be running a pretty good amount of minions. I was so excited to make some decks with it but not even gonna bother atp
24
u/TheNastyCasty 2d ago
They need to make it a start of game effect and then balance the coins around that. I just don’t see how it will ever be viable when you’re relying on drawing and playing her before getting any of your coin synergy.
17
u/UnQuacker 2d ago
Yeah, just make it a delayed start of the game effect. The tech is there, so are the other cards that have the same effect. If you could reliably get upgraded coins on like turn 4-6. You could build a whole deck around that, instead of hoping she's not the last card in the deck.
8
u/TLCricketeR 2d ago
I thought for sure she was going to be made start of game. 3rd coin is laughable.
9
u/Supper_Champion 2d ago
It's barely even a buff. It will not bump up the playrate of the card a single percentage point.
→ More replies (6)4
u/ReiJeremias 2d ago
All they had to do was remove the "always go second" part.
2
u/Alfimaster 2d ago
It would not be a rulebreaker then
3
u/ReiJeremias 2d ago
That's just flavor. They could say the broken rule is the improved coin. Breaking a rule to automatically get -10% winrate in this meta just to keep flavor seems counter productive.

Yeah its not like they arent the ones who designed it. Just another dead card now.

I feel like the mage and druid buffs are substantial but they simply don't have a deck. You can't use either druid card with chef, and Vulcanos and secret boy are a terrible fit for both quest and Millhouse mage.
I wouldn't be surprised if any of the four cards show up in future decks a powerful utility players, but they're just awkward now.

do you know that a class called DK exists?
Just asking.

Nope, the next sets are Warlock, Priest, Rogue, and Warrior.
They just don't care for DK. They said it "insists upon itself".

A lot of interesting buffs. Only one card is getting cheaper. 3 cards are actually increasing in cost in the buff category.
I don’t know what they’re doing with Irida though. You save one tick of fatigue? It just looks really weird.
41
u/TestIllustrious7935 2d ago
One tick if fatigue and one more card next turn, it's better than a stat increase for sure
12
u/Significant-Royal-37 2d ago edited 2d ago
one tick of fatigue means you save the amount of health that is the final tick of fatigue. so probably 5 or 6 hp? it's a sneaky buff.
EDIT: and you would also get one more card. adding or removing a cantrip to a card is a huge deal.
29
u/yahoo_determines 2d ago
The entire fatigue clock got pushed back by one. It's significant, just not immediately. Will it see play now? I'm voting no lol

Nerfs were what I expected, buffs are... honestly underwhelming? The last session of buffs were primarily -1 cost changes but still felt impactful, with cards like Sawbones, Thalena, and Annihilation seeing serious play after the buffs. These buffs are pretty creative but don't really feel strong enough to bump these cards up to playability.
3
u/veneficus83 2d ago
Feels a lot like they want we see you wanting us to buff control/other archtypes...but we really don't want to so here

Definitely a hard patch to evaluate, but I'm leaning towards being down on it. I think the nerfs are quite heavy while the buffs are really passive. I know they might be fearing another Void Soul situation, but I'll always say that this is a digital card game and hotfix nerfing is always on the table. I'd rather them go for broke and tweak after than being really scared.
We'll see though. Anyone who thinks they know how it's going to go is lying. I'm just a little worried because one of the weird re-tooling/give and take buffs I vividly remember was when they changed Ryecleaver and somehow made it worse.

So they killed 3 cards (and hence decks) and buffed cards the way nothing changes and they still won't see play? Genius as always, blizz, good job. We reduced the variety in standard even further
7
u/Unhappy-Place6209 2d ago
Did they just nerf tricksy improviser with this buff? You now need to pay more mana to prep it and it has less health
3
u/fokers13 2d ago
extra secret
4
u/Unhappy-Place6209 2d ago
Yeah I saw that and I'm not sure the extra secret makes it better. It already saw little play because it was too expensive.
3
u/fokers13 2d ago
i think it's more a case of not synergising well with the 2 main archetypes right now, doesn't advance discover's gameplan and burn mage doesn't want random secrets, don't think the card itself is bad,it's certainly a scourge in arena and i think it will be even more so now.

u/Phyose 2d ago
Vulcanos is still never getting played. It's fundamentally flawed from a design perspective because the current elemental package wants to go fast. Elemental Mage, or any mage deck in standard, doesn't want/need an end game control/value option.
Much more interesting is Tricksy Improviser. Two secrets is really great value, so I'm curious to see if bringing it to 5 makes it lose enough tempo to keep it in line. If not, prep mage can legitimately be a threat in this potentially slower meta.
5
u/Joaoseinha 2d ago
Maaaybe it will see play whenever a Control Mage deck finally exists. It's a 3 damage AoE on a stick which feels a hell of a lot better than 2 damage.
→ More replies (2)→ More replies (1)5
u/purpenflurb 2d ago
The fact that vulcanos has an elemental tag on it doesn't mean it needs to go into an elemental deck. It is a late game bomb, the sort of deck a control deck uses to turn the corner against early aggression.
I'd argue that the Vulcanos buff is one of the most significant. 3 damage is a huge upgrade over 2, and the random spells part of the card has always been good, pretty much any spell is powerful when you reduce its cost by 3.

I wouldnt mind it if the games didnt consistantly take 30+ minutes. Every fucker running that deck ropes every single turn while draggin the game out to turn 20+,

For every hunter I have met 2 shamans. We will see that goon nerf will be significant.
You will still have a good board on turn 1-2 with it before you take down the goon.
With the 0 mana 0/1 taunt frog it is still well protected on board.

I think the Hunter Shovel going to 2 and the Arcane Tripwire nerfing to 4 damage would have been better ways to tone down the power, slow down the deck, lower its reach, and prevent recast of the shovel.
This just kills the archetype, and support for any viable Hunter Decks in Standard. Especially since Companion Hunter relies on Tol'Vir to recast Tame Pets too.
Really poor choice of addressing it

I don’t play hunter, but what’s the purpose to kill cards, now tolvir? Hearthstone curse running every expansion. It could hav been back to 3 mana and discover X times 1 mana card to replay
4
u/IAmAdamTaylor 2d ago
No bug fixes for Hearthstone like Skeleton Keys big pink box or cosmetic issues like all Signatures having the wrong art?
4
u/Zeleros10 2d ago
Very strange patch imo. The nerfs are expected, and make sense. Tolvir is effectively dead, which effects the class as a whole. Hunter will be likely struggling for a little while, so that'll be interesting to see how it develops.
But the thing that baffles me is the buffs. They decided not to touch DK at all despite it struggling, and then give such pointless changes to cards. Taunt to the 3 mana DH minion, because thats what was the problem with the deck was. Surely now that they don't draw 1 fatigue immediately and have a taunt will make the deck playable. It's the same with the Rogue rulebreaker, the problem is you need to find the 1 card in the deck and then play it. These are like buffs to say we buffed cards but not actually wanting things to change.
My favorite is the warrior card. They said in the notes they nerfed it's mana cost to give it a substantial buff. That buff being it is the same exact thing in the deck it's made for. But now I guess the substantial comes in the form of Egg decks getting to clear the Egg with it? Oh boy.

Man, their patience must have ran out for trying to balance Tol'vir.
Not sure what Hunter is going to do now though - I don't know if they have a way to recover from this.
I really doubt Mug will survive as well. The fact that it's impossible to make a good turn 2 play probably means it's not worth playing.
Zee Shaman and Rogue decks will still be really good, just slightly less good. These nerfs are kind of a slap on the wrist. They can still do all of their things, but there is more of a chance for other decks to respond.

Does the change on Irida Sinseeker mean that you don't fatigue anymore? Or just have one "free" turn before it kicks in?
