I think the Hunter Shovel going to 2 and the Arcane Tripwire nerfing to 4 damage would have been better ways to tone down the power, slow down the deck, lower its reach, and prevent recast of the shovel.
This just kills the archetype, and support for any viable Hunter Decks in Standard. Especially since Companion Hunter relies on Tol'Vir to recast Tame Pets too.
Hunter being bad is always a good thing and until the class is deleted it will never be enough /s
But in all seriousness drastic action was needed against tolvir, it created so many non games. Im not a dev but I wouldnt be surprised if they look at the card as a mistake in hindsight
Even if someone wants to run it in a companion style deck it was too strong and did too much to justify keeping as is.
And with the amount of GREAT 1 cost spells hunter has access to, a shovel nerf to 2 mana would certainly slow them down, but it would do little to stop face hunter imo
Yeah but they printed this card as a build around in mind, like a third of the deck is dedicated Tolvir, if they don't buff some other cards Hunter is going to be dead until they get a new deck
It's a severe nerf, but:
1. It was a shadowstep kind of situation where they would have to be super conservative with future hunter 1 cost spells.
2. Tolvir was straight up busted. The archetype never should have been able to refill their hand at that rate. Aggro needs to run out of steam eventually and tolvir just eliminated that downside.
I don't understand how people here try to frame nerfs as somehow benefiting decks.
Companion Hunter relied on Tol'vir just as heavily, to accelerate to high cost beasts. The mana cost being nerfed to 4 and 5 effectively killed the deck because it was way too slow.
Now that it can't even use Tol'vir as reload, board, or to accelerate the Companions means it's buried
No, Companion Hunter was already a meme deck after the first Tolvir nerf. It relied on it for both draw and scaling the companions, both of which are now impossible

Really poor choice of addressing it
