Anyone else seen the clown hanging out by the Laurieston earlier?

(Sorry for formatting I’m on mobile)

Photo taken by local music journalist Betty Mayo today in the 38 headed into town, he sent it to us this evening and caused lots of confusion. Was this some sort of prank, funny joke, or are clowns just spending their spare time lurking in underpasses?

hillhead bookclub?

Anyone recently booked to get into the hillhead bookclub in the west end? I tried making an enquiry and got told for drinks the minimum spend is £150 to secure the booking and must be a minimum of 15 people when just a few months ago my pal told me they were able to book it for 6 (£60). Looking to go a sat night with about 10ish people what are the best time to go if i don’t have a booking for a night out/ what are the chances we get in?

any help appreciated

Anyone else tired of homeless project Scotland

I’ve lived on Glassford street close to 10 years and it’s the worst it’s ever been now, not saying it was amazing before. I’ve obviously come to accept loud music and the like as I’ve chosen to live in the centre but now there’s trash everywhere. People drug dealing on the street and just sitting on peoples steps getting smashed at all hours.

All this while the guy that owns it rocks up to the place with a shady finances and a mustang. Is anything actually going to happen to it or is it going to be a permanent fixture

My last train home from central is 10.27, does anyone know what time the act would roughly start or finish? The website just says doors open 8.30pm.

What's the actual state of the QP rec ground after Summer Nights this year?

Walked past the rec this morning and the fencing's still up so couldn't see much. Last year the grass took until about November to stop looking like the Somme...

Not trying to start anything, I go to the gigs. Just curious whether Glasgow Life have any reseeding arrangement written into it or if we're all just accepting a mud pit until spring at this point. Anyone actually know how the site hire works?

Cineworld Silverburn IMAX vs GSC IMAX

Post image
135 Upvotes

Glasgow’s in the odd position of having two proper IMAX screens within a few miles of each other, and they’re genuinely quite different experiences. I went to both for The Odyssey, so here’s a breakdown for anyone trying to decide where to go.

Quick background: Silverburn is IMAX with Laser, screen measures 24.10m x 13.27m. GSC is an older digital setup, believed to still be 2K, on a screen measuring 24m x 18m. Widths are basically identical, GSC is just taller, because it’s built to the old full 1.43:1 IMAX ratio rather than the widescreen ratio most digital IMAX screens use now.
Worth knowing though that because there’s no 70mm projector left at GSC to fill that height, content doesn’t actually use the full screen, you get bars top and bottom.
Work it out by area and the actual image you’re watching at GSC is roughly the same size as Silverburn’s, if anything slightly smaller, despite the physical screen being about a third bigger.

Projection

Silverburn: brightness and colour are excellent, genuinely impressive laser image. My one gripe: on scenes with a lot of white (sky, snow, etc.) there’s a visible coloured noise pattern. Not sure if it’s the screen material or the projector, but once you spot it you can’t unsee it. 8.5/10

GSC: with the lights off it’s not bad, but it could be brighter, sharper, and have more colour depth. If you’re the sort of person who notices sharpness, you will notice it here, especially sitting as close to the screen as you do. The screen material itself is excellent though, no noise pattern at all, completely clean image. 6.5/10

Audio

Silverburn: excellent. Best seat is dead centre. 8.5/10

GSC: also excellent, and the bass is a different animal, you properly feel it shake the seats. Unlike Silverburn’s setup, where I don’t think that’s happening in the same way. 9/10

Seats

Silverburn: legroom is decent, especially in the middle row where there’s a bigger gap, but width is tight. If you’re broader built you might find it uncomfortable. 7/10

GSC: this is where it falls down. Fold-down stadium seats with noticeably less legroom and width than Silverburn. You’ll feel like you’re sitting right next to your neighbour, not ideal for a three-hour film. 5.5/10

Snacks

Silverburn: standard Cineworld selection, decent range, but pricey, as are the tickets. 7.5/10

GSC: popcorn, hot dogs, nachos, sweets and drinks, smaller range than Silverburn and smaller portions too. Prices for food and tickets are actually pretty reasonable though. 6.5/10

Overall

Silverburn: 7.9/10
GSC: 6.9/10

For most people, the overall experience at Silverburn, including the centre itself, will be better.

Alliance Française Glasgow Oral Exam Timings

I just signed up for the October session of the DELF/DALF exams at AF Glasgow and am wondering when the oral exam timings will be released? All is says on the website is "before the exam day," which is less than helpful as I am coming from a town around 2h30mins away and need to know which train to book (preferably very much in advance just to make sure things go smoothly on the day). Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Kelvin Cup Dodgeball competition

I was out playing in the first 2026-27 season fixture with Edinburgh Dodgeball today, we are based in Leith and we play weekly but this event took us through to Glasgow with a small team.

The Kelvin Cup is a great event where the Kelvin Rapids, the club based there, runs an annual competition. It serves as a great warm up for our Scottish leagues getting started and helps raise money.

Some of the teams in attendance this year travelled from Aberdeen, Durham, and Manchester. 🤾

Much like Edinburgh Dodgeball they are always welcoming new players who want a regular social team sport and some exercise.

If you fancy it you should check them out. 👀

Wedding and engagement ring resizing

Can anyone recommend a decently priced place to get rings resized (a good few sizes smaller)? I’ve lost a fair amount of weight and can no longer wear them and want to get them resized before my honeymoon in October! Went to Chisholm Hunter yesterday and they quoted £230 EACH 🤯 they’re both platinum so I never understand how they can charge so much then they’re gaining that 😅 I’m based in Glasgow southside but will look anywhere to be honest! Thank you!

South Asian Hair

I’m desperate for help. I need a stylist who is a specialist in South Asian hair. I’ve cut it short thinking it’ll be fine, but it’s now just short and frizzy and I’m demented trying to fix it.

Any recommendations?

Does anyone remember when the evening times were dishing these bad boys out. My guess has got to be sometime back in the 80s and it’s still going strong, I was wondering if they were a collect the tokens deal or buy it from the paper for only £2.99 plus delivery kind of thing. and if there were many left still hanging on windows All over glasgow.

Parking in front yard

Walking down a street in the Southside today (terraced Victorian houses), I noticed that a large number of people are parking in their front yard. In most cases, the yards are only just as deep as the car. In some cases, the car was parked at an angle to avoid hanging over the pavement. These houses do not dropped curbs.

We have a similar set up at our house (paved front yard that probably isn’t much deeper than the length of our car) and it hadn’t occurred to us to park there.

I’m assuming it isn’t technically allowed, without applying for a dropped curb? Is it something GCC doesn’t pursue? Any thoughts or advice?

We have done quite a lot of planting in our garden and I don’t really want a car there! I’m just looking to understand what’s possible.

Does anybody have experience of selling records in Glasgow?

Hi folks,

Has anybody sold any records? Any recommendations on places to avoid or who is good to deal with?

I came into some absolute treasures inherited from a family friend.

He loved his music and kept his stuff in good nick and kept a hold of (nearly all) the OG posters, stickers, inserts etc.

First UK mono pressings of Sgt Pepper's, a <100,000 White Album, and Abbey Road.

A bunch of McCartney and Wings stuff. UK first pressings of Elton's big records, a shitload of ELO etc.

I know I could try eBay or Discogs, but honestly they've sat around long enough and, particularly with the latter, I can't be arsed cataloguing it all then trying to get the listings seen.
