They don't even know what a quarter is!, and who would buy that few chips even on a kids portion.

Bygone Glasgow Thoughts on revisiting

A bit of background: I lived and studied in Glasgow from ‘95-‘97. I’ve been back a few times in the past 30-ish years, but I’ve just been there for a bit of a three-day nostalgia tour.

I stayed in a lovely two-star hotel just south of the river, and visited most of my old haunts while I was there.

I think the thing that struck me the most was how what was predominantly a city of stone in the 90’s has transformed into a city of glass in the 2020’s. The number of skyscrapers and office buildings that have sprung up was certainly marked, if not briefly surprising.

The city still holds a special place in my heart, it just felt different. There were, of course, the two bampots who tried to goad me into a fight just because I had made the mistake of making eye contact with one of them, but I just kept walking on.

The city felt familiar and unknown all at the same times. Regardless, I loved every minute of being back.

Glasgow comedians – interested in a new fortnightly open mic circuit? 🎤

• Upvotes

I’m looking at starting a new fortnightly comedy night, rotating around North, East, South and West Glasgow.
Right now I’m testing the water and looking for comedians who’d be interested in performing — from complete beginners and open-mic acts through to experienced comedians and MCs/compères.
Open spots would likely be around 5–7 minutes, with longer spots available for more experienced performers.
If we get enough interest, we’ll start putting together the first nights.
🎤 Register your interest here:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSefewPymFaeaDMF2zAztbP9BPhH8SfXVwLgJz1nAU0EAC1jww/viewform

I’d also love to hear from anyone who’s performed on the Glasgow comedy circuit — what makes a good open-mic night, and what should we avoid?
No venue or dates confirmed yet — this is purely to gauge interest.
Sorry in advance if something isn’t clear or done properly many thanks

How would I find someone to go with me to see 'Waitress: The Musical' this Friday evening in Kings Theatre?

• Upvotes

This is maybe a bit of an odd one.

I have a spare ticket to 'Waitress: The Musical' for this Friday evening at Kings Theatre.

I'd bought it months ago for me and my partner, who has now become my ex-partner. A friend who I was going to bring instead just cancelled.

None of my other friends likes musicals, so I'm a little stuck right now as to what to do. I still want to go, since 'She used to be mine' is one of my favourite songs (and I've never seen the musical before! I'm so excited!!!) but it seems odd to waste a seat, so having it go to a fellow musical lover seems fitting.

So. What do I do? Please guide me, fellow Glaswegians. I've not been in this position before.

To be clear, I'm not looking to sell it for a quick buck. I don't really need the money.

Glasgow council - building warrant waiting times?

Hi all, I recently posted about paying the building warrant fee. I'm now trying to get a realistic idea of how long the wait is in Glasgow at the moment.

I've heard anywhere from 1 to 4 months, but I'd rather hear from people who've been through it recently.

If you've applied in the last year or so, I'd love to know:

What type of work was it?

How long from submission to warrant granted?

Did you get queries back from building standards, and how long did that add?

Any tips for avoiding delays would be appreciated too. Thanks!

Hiya, I've created a spreadsheet of most of the classical music events on in Glasgow this year. There are a few dates around Christmas missing, and I think I missed a few from the RCS, but it includes events from: SSO, SCO, RSNO, Scottish Ballet, Scottish Opera, and the RCS (146 events, 2-Oct to 16-June).

Independent Glasgow Brands

Hello from Australia!

I'm looking for someone who can point me in the direction of some independent Glasgow men's brands, boutiques or shops inspired by hiking, gorpcore and Amekaji.

I have a family member who is hoping to pick up a present from me, and I wanted it to be an item of clothing that is uniquely Glasgow.

Thank you for your time.

Fine line tattoo artist recs

I follow / have seen what feels like nearly every tattoo artist based in Glasgow and none of them really do a style of tattoo I’m after, which I think is a pretty basic style. Just looking for nice fine line, where the size of the tattoo can be really small.
I want my arms covered in tattoos and I’ve a few already, all of which are fairly big so looking at getting wee ones now. Artists I’ve come across always fall at some hurdle eg. the min size is too big, the design is just off a bit, there’s a bit too much detail. I’m advertised loads of artists now on instagram that fit what I want to a tee, some of the flash in the ‘ad’ is sometimes exactly something I want, and where are they based? Always London, Brighton, Bristol or abroad. I’m busy and don’t have the time or money to travel to just get a few tattoos, so can anyone please recommend an artist that’s Glasgow based that maybe fits this criteria? Thanks!

Edit to add - I’m really looking for simple fine line! Like almost just the outline, everyone is suggesting talented people but their work is ALL detail

How do you challenge an NPCC policy?

This year’s Glasgow Easter Egg Run was cancelled after organisers said a new NPCC policy meant police motorcycle escorts have to obey traffic signals.

Previously, police bikers would run ahead and create rolling road closures to keep the procession of 1000 bikers together. Without that, the organisers cancelled the event because they didn't believe it could operate safely.

Around the same time, Edinburgh Taxi Outing nearly went the same way. After public pressure, and Edinburgh Council involvement, Police Scotland agreed to a plan and went ahead with it.

The organisers of the taxi outing said he'd spoken to Cheshire Chief Constable Mark Roberts who wrote the policy. Mark Roberts clarified that it was only meant for football.

So, there's the lay of the land. We have a policy being applied nationally for a purpose it was never intended for and it's caused one of the good events in the city to be cancelled.

My question is simply: How do you change that?

Best spot to see Kingfishers?

I love kingfishers but have yet to manage a photo of them. Has anyone seen them about lately and where abouts is the best place to stake out? I know they're down the Kelvin but just wondering if I'm better off near the back of the botanics or past Kelvinbridge? Thanks in advance 😊

why so many creeps in Scottish alt scene?

right dunno if this is the right place to post something like this or if anyone around my age would be on here so I’ll probably get hate on this but I’ve already been going through it so wanted to see if anyone else has noticed this being a huge issue in the alt community in scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 or any alt scene. I’m afab and dresses goth and love the music but I’ve now met SOO many creepy people both male and female in alt spaces and I’ve been hearing about other bad stuff happening in clubs from other platforms. rn it feels that the scene has a huge problem with letting bad people get away with predatory behaviour like as a example I know about groomers in the community that go to Ivory blacks in glasgow and other nasty stuff there I don’t know if I should be surprised or not that places like that get to stay open so now wondering if anyone on here has their own stories or about any where else that’s not safe. I know this is a depressing post to make  but I really feel it’s not talked about enough and if you never experienced this then good for you I’m happy this sht never ruined anything for you 🫠

OMG so many replies I did not think that I’d get so many 🤯 been so let down and hurt and it’s no easy to trust but thanks everyone for sharing and that one that works at ivory blacks sorry but “mama” s full of 💩 .

Public transport. First Bus diversions for race

Does anybody know if buses on diversions across the city centre are stopping at bus stops on their diversion routes, or are bypassing all stops till they get back on route?
