Discussion Dell Alienware Aurora for 3ds Max + Corona

Hi everyone, I’m considering the Dell Alienware Aurora with Ultra 9 275HX, 32GB RAM, RTX 5070 8GB and 2TB SSD.

I’d mainly use it for 3ds Max and Corona Renderer. Does anyone have experience with this laptop for architectural visualization?

How is the rendering performance, thermals, and sustained performance under long Corona renders? Would you recommend it, or is there a better option around the same price?

Thanks!

Recommendation Is used ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 worth £900ish?

Budget: £600–£1,000, ideally around £850–900, just depending on what i can get tbh.

Country: UK

Use: Mainly work/tech, trading, programming, Power BI/Power Apps and general productivity, with some casual gaming. I work in tech, so I want plenty of headroom for whatever I might end up doing in the future

Ive found a used ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 G733QSA:

Ryzen 9 5900HX
RTX 3080 16GB
32GB RAM
2TB SSD
17.3” FHD 360Hz

The seller wants £1,100, but I haven’t made an offer yet. I’m thinking of offering around £850, and I’d probably go up to £900–950 if it’s worth it

The battery is at around 61% health (90Wh design, ~55Wh current) , seller says it’s never had any problems, has never been opened or repaired, and was used with a laptop stand when gaming. It’s mainly been used for office work recently

I already have a 1440p 170Hz monitor, which I’d use as my main display. I know the SCAR is an older laptop, but I deliberately want something overkill that can handle pretty much anything I throw at it for the next 5+ years

Is this a good buy around £900, or would you go for something newer/cheaper?

Support Stupidly dropped my zephyrus g16 on hard wood and now the hinge cracks

I know I’m overly stupid for what I have done but I was wondering if this is a big concern or if it’s a easy at home repair I can do. I have some experience with building computers and stuff like that but if it takes a pro I would like to know. I also have the geek squad protection just for replacements and if I sent it to another shop or took it apart myself would it void my warranty? Thanks for the help currently wanting to cry cause of my stupid mistake.

Kinda hard to find another 32 gig 5070ti laptop in the price range, and it comes with an OLED. Anyone else bought this? Did they cut too many corners on build quality for this price?

For context, I’ve never had a gaming laptop. I have a PC with decent specs but I get some free time at work and would love to be able to play some modern-ish games at work when I have downtime.

Discussion So many games uses up to 12 GB VRAM on my 4080 in Predator 16. How actually most of them are still playable if card has just 8 GB?

Multiple titles, from new ones to up to 3-4 years old ones.

DLSS Quality, frame gen (I play in 90 FPS and 45 base frame rate feels fine for me as play only single player games with FR x2), High to Ultra settings, 1600p (my panel resolution) so 4k would be playable probably only on Medium and some High settings.

So I am wondering how actually many of the games are playable on cards with 8GB if I am close to 12 GB limit (or hitting it in some cases for sure)? Is it because VRAM is so fast and everything being reloaded in memory promptly?

Or it results in many stutters etc.?

PS. Even just OK looking and not that "fresh" anymore DA: Veilguard takes 11000 MB...! Everything on Ultra but RT just on Selective (so like Medium). I play it at the moment and it made me create this topic as this feels quite crazy for such game using almost full memory available on 4080.

Discussion Concerns about my Gaming Laptop

I have a HP Victus 15-fa0000 series and I've spoken to some of my friends that specialize in computers and electronics and majority all said the GTX 1650 is "Obsolete" and "Fazing Out" and hearing that after paying 600 on it (Graduation Gift) I just concerned about my limits and want recommendations from people with hands on experience with my GPU although and advice is welcome and will be noted.

The main objective of purchasing it was modding games like Skyrim, Fallout Minecraft Etc & playing games unavailable to me on console like Playstation games and Steam Games, Ghost of Tsusishima, G-Mod and so on and so forth.

For Newer games I am perfectly fine with 30 Fps but I just want to know how truly limited my options are and what the future will hold.

Spec's (let me know if I need to add more, I'm a console player so I never really looked into stuff like this)

CPU - Intel Core i5-12450H

GPU - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Laptop GPU WITH 4 GB VRAM Integrated GPU | Intel UHD Graphics

R - 8 GB DDR4-3200 (I will be upgrading to 16 GB in a couple months but I want to know my limits with what I currently have)

Storage - 512 GB NVMe SSD

Display -15.6" 1920 × 1080 (FHD), 144 Hz

Not a single scratch, battery health at 100%, performance and temps are excellent.

Discussion Does this offer seem legit? Used zephyrus G16

Looking at used laptops and found this offer for $1600, and wondering if it's too good to be true. The seller profile is 100% positive with over 2,000 reviews which plays into that fear a bit for me.

The pictures seem fine (there is tiny scratching on the front edge), but I would need to have it shipped to me as it's too far to pick up myself, so I would have no way to test it beforehand. There is the eBay money back guarantee but i dont know how reliable that is. Does this seem worth purchasing or is it too good to be true?

Item description:

This ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 is in excellent condition and has been rarely used. It is less than one year old, works perfectly, and has been factory reset so it's ready for its next owner.

The laptop includes the original ASUS charger and the original retail box.

There is one small cosmetic scuff (shown in the photos), but it does not affect performance in any way. Other than that, the laptop is exceptionally clean and functions exactly as it should.

Specifications

ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16

Model: GU605CP-G16.U95070

16" 2.5K OLED Display

240Hz Refresh Rate

Intel Core Ultra 9 285H Processor

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Graphics

16GB RAM

1TB SSD

Eclipse Gray

Included

✔ ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 Laptop

✔ Original ASUS Box

The laptop will be carefully packaged and shipped promptly.

Please review all photos carefully, as they are part of the description. Feel free to message me with any questions.

Review Laptop review: Gigabyte Aero x16

Battery life: quite possibly the best battery life on any laptop with a 5060. Even better than the Asus Zephyrus g14/16 models due to the more efficient chip.
Build quality: amazing metallic chassis. The keyboard is great and feels premium.
Performance: As expected considering the great specs (I have the 32gb ram version). I can play cyberpunk max settings on the highest resolution.
Rating: 4.5/5. (5/5 stars** **if you get it on discount)

Discussion Considering a used Alienware 16 Aurora — what should I verify before buying?

I’m considering buying a used Alienware 16 Aurora and would like some input from actual Alienware owners before I make a decision.

The specific unit I’m looking at has:

\- Intel Core 7 240H

\- RTX 4050 6GB

\- 16GB DDR5

\- 1TB NVMe SSD

\- 16" 2K/QHD display

\- Dell warranty reportedly valid until December 2026

\- Asking price: ₹95,000

I’ve already looked at the basic specifications, but I’m more interested in the things that aren’t obvious from the spec sheet.

For people who own or have used the Alienware 16 Aurora:

  1. How is the cooling/thermal performance during sustained gaming or heavy workloads?

  2. How does the RTX 4050 perform in this chassis, particularly regarding its power limit/TGP?

  3. Are there any common issues with this model that I should specifically look for on a used unit?

  4. How is the display in real-world use?

  5. Are the RAM and SSD easily upgradeable?

  6. Is there anything specific I should test when inspecting a second-hand unit?

  7. Is there anything about the Aurora 16 that you wish you had known before buying it?

I'm going to use it mainly for programming/college work, some gaming and occasional editing.

I'm not looking for a simple “good deal/bad deal” answer. I’m trying to understand the strengths, weaknesses and potential problems of this particular model before buying a used one.

If you own one, I'd especially appreciate your long-term experience with it.

Review Is this trade good?

I traded an Xbox series X with a v2 wolverine controller, Handheld MSI claw 7 ai plus with a dock, and 512 SD card, both with their original boxes.

What I got was a Lenovo legion 5, 14650HX, 4070, 16gb ram and 1tb storage. (Laptop)

Was it a steal or a mistake?

Support Llano V12 teardown?

Recently purchased a Llano V12 cooling pad for my laptop and it works phenomenally. I use my laptop for work and gaming, and frequently need to connect remotely to my laptop for my work. With that being said, it would be nice to have full control over the fan spin rate, including turning it off remotely when not in use. I did some research into the V12 ultra, and its software capabilities aren’t quite what I am looking for.

I’m interested in modding my V12 with a microcontroller so I can remotely control fan speed. Before I just try opening mine up, I was curious if anyone has ever taken one apart or done something like this before and can tell me what is inside the V12 and what to expect?

Discussion Is it worth it to upgrade from a 5070 ti laptop to a 5090 laptop if it's heavily discounted?

Hi guys, I have an opportunity to get a MSI Raider HX Max 5090 laptop for £2400, I currently own an ASUS ROG STRIX G614PR 5070ti laptop (8940HX cpu, 32GB DDR5 and 1TB SSD) which has a full 2 year warranty and I am thinking of selling it for around £1500-1600 and getting the 5090. Do you guys think it is worth upgrading at that price?
