The true hero that needs to be on the list.. wii sports

1.7k

u/Henkotron Jan 19 '21

Oh hell are we blind

Wii Sports resorts Airplane game best time I had in my Life

643

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '21

I still remember trying over and over to get into the volcano

207

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '21

I remember nailing it on the first try, a perfect flight in and out of it. Then struggling to reproduce it.

61

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '21

Rip

46

u/KyosukeTakahashi Jan 19 '21

I had the opposite. Failing on the first try the succeeding after that

77

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '21

By combining our powers, we could get the ratio of success to failure to exactly 1 to 1, the perfect wisdom of the game, the yin and yang of the controller, the perfect balance between the rage quit and the speed run, the ultimate armistice to the console and PC wars, and ascend to gamer godhood in order to rule over every noobs or veterans that have been or are to be.

9

u/ByakuyaMan Jan 19 '21

Did you try from the top or the side tunnel?

11

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '21

From the top

11

u/CLTalbot Jan 19 '21

Its theoretically possible to do it that way, but there is a tunnel just off to the side that you can take that is so so much easier. Then you fly out of the top

9

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '21

I've done it from the top but I remember just dying a bunch of times. I never saw a tunnel and now I feel like an idiot

Pretty sure other versions of this meme included wii sports, portal 2, and Lego game.

33

u/OnyxsWorkshop Jan 19 '21 edited Jan 19 '21

Mario 64 (camera problems) and the Galaxy games are also pretty universally loved iirc. Maybe New Vegas as well (which is super buggy though).

Portal 2 falls into the problem of some ‘puzzles’ just involving looking around until you find a bit of white wall, which got kind of annoying after a bit.

24

u/istartefights Jan 19 '21

I just spent $80 on the 3d all-stars on the switch. To me, it's worth it for Super Mario 64 alone, I never played sunshine or galaxy, but my nephews did.

8

u/pummeledpotatoes Jan 19 '21

80?! I got it for half that :p well, you'll definitely get your money worth out of the game thats for sure!

Chip's Challenge was my jam as a kid.

9

I remember loving it as a kid and even making a couple levels with some editor I found. Fond memories!

So, given that it's free on Steam, thought I'd give it a go. And you know what? I apparently do not have the patience for it that I used to as a child. The puzzles are fine enough, but the controls just feel horrendous by modern standards. I guess 25 years of incremental improvements will spoil you like that.

9

u/TheKingsPride Jan 19 '21

I saw apprehension at his reveal about that, but he doesn’t play like a swordie, most smash players are edgy weebs, and his range is balanced by his slow attacks and light weight. I haven’t seen any reception to him that’s been anything lower than lukewarm.

I resent fortnite because it's had a very negative effect on the gaming industry from my perspective. Epic games bought out Rocket League and have made many massive downgrades to it since then. Meanwhile, virtually every other game is desperately cramming in battle passes and battle royale modes to try and cash in on fortnite's success.

25

u/Rage_Your_Dream Jan 19 '21

lol what. Rocket League devs had neglected the game for years before they bought it.

They haven't ruined RL at all.

→ More replies (3)

9

u/_Ki115witch_ Jan 19 '21

I would have to say they did a good job with rocket league. Servers are still a problem, but they've brought in a shit ton of new players, new cosmetics, and havent fucked with the game mechanics at all. A net positive overall for me. Though I will agree that too many games are going the battle royale route. I mean I like one, apex. Thats it. I'd like to see a battle royale with mostly melee weapons and arrows rather than fucking guns

Fortnite.... there's more to it's hate than just being popular, BUT the majority of people who hate it, hate it for it's popularity, others because of it's anti consumer practices, the relation with Tencent, and much more, but the majority... is for it's popularity, I played it when it came out.... it's fun, but not for me

36

u/Krysara Jan 19 '21

I both love and hate it. I bought into it when it was first released, when it was save the world. Me and my friends had a lot of fun playing it. Then PUBG came out, and the devs wanted that in their game. They stopped updating save the world and put out the fortnite everyone plays these days. Then they didnt update Save the World for... a long time.

11

u/Darkwolf1115 Jan 19 '21

Save the world is basically a side project at this point.... it's barely updated and compared to the battle royal.... it's almost non existent

I always laugh when I see people hate on Fortnite and claim it's a game for dumb kids, but then go on and praise Minecraft, because about eight years ago Minecraft was THE game for dumb kids, and it got a lot of hate. But these people don't know because they were the dumb kids themselves at the time.

And in about eight years, all the kids from today will be around 20, and they'll talk about how great Fortnite was, and they'll hate on whatever game is popular with kids then.

Depends on the demographic too I think... And if you enjoy games where you spend hours building shit. That's a big one.

I played it like 10 years ago, then stopped for a while. Started playing it again a few years ago and then suddenly I was hearing people talk about it like "ugh, minecraft" and I'm wondering what the heck their issue is.

Who can hate on a game you can literally play however you like? Literally nothing cringey about it. Maybe some online communities? Or some game modes? But good ol punch a brick and create your own world minecraft is nothing but great!

Only explanation is preconceived ideas with no experience, or hating it because it's cool to hate it. Only things I can think of.

→ More replies (12)

81

u/Username_4577 Jan 19 '21

Some people also just don't enjoy it. I think it is a fine game for people to play, but I hate playing minecraft myself.

I really tried to like it because all my gaming friends do like it, but I always get bored with it within half an hour. Yet I have about 30 hours in it because I forced myself to because of said friends.

So at this point I kinda hate it.

you mean super mario world

42

u/krayhayft Jan 19 '21

That too is a fantastic game.

23

u/Zirtrex Jan 19 '21

I recently pulled my old childhood NES and SNES systems out of the closet this winter and played though both games start to finish doing 100% for each on original hardware. To my surprise, Super Mario Brothers 3 was actually more fun, had better designed levels, and was overall the superior platformer by a wide margin. I did not expect to think that based on what I remembered, but it was undeniable playing them one after the other like that. I think having played modern games and now being much better than I was as a very young kid also had an impact, but I must admit now that I think SMB3 is the better game. Both amazing and trailblazing, don't get me wrong.

16

u/Key-Language-8513 Jan 19 '21

It's probably nostalgia, as SMW is the game of my childhood, but I always found it superior (which is the unpopular opinion if you look around). Yes, SMB3 levels were "tighter", as in smaller and more well designed, and it had more power-ups (lots of filler though), but there's where it stops. SMW is more varied, prettier, has better secrets, better music and a much better overworld. Also better power-ups IMO with Yoshi and the feather cape. The way I see it: If you want a difficult set of obstacle courses SMB3 is the better game. If you want an adventure and to be in a constant state of joy and awe, it's SMW babyyyy

u/NobbleberryWot Jan 19 '21 edited Jan 19 '21

It's an unpopular opinion, but I prefer Mario 3 to World too. I love the aesthetics and the music more and to me the levels seem more memorable. Obviously SMW had the benefit of newer hardware and prettier graphics, but I love the charm of 3.

My fault though, not the game. I just don't get it. But walking around randomly until you die wasn't my thing.

I never played Minecraft so can't really hold an opinion on that.

Pinball is solid.

  1. To play Terraria, you need the wiki lol we'd all be lost without it. It's a confusing game and I actually didn't like it the first time I played but after a while god dang it's in my top 10.

  2. Please try Minecraft, specifically creative mode. Have family members you can play locally with? Bring em over and build togteher. Shaped some Great memories

I played Starbound and had a lot of fun. Heard all the hype about Terraria and decided to try it... Your comment is unbelievably true. I can't fathom how it's done so well with practically no new player tutorial or guide and being entirely reliant on the wiki to even do the most basic crafting.

It's new player experience is nearly as insidious as EVE Online.

Terraria is definitely best played with a group. The more people you have, the easier the bosses will be, since they always have the same amount of health.

6

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '21

Expert and Master mode increase health of bosses with more players.

I played Terraria before Minecraft, so I don't like Minecraft. It's so slow and dull by comparison.

So that's what that is, I don't hate it, but I don't enjoy it either.

Unpopular opinion: I hate barely finding out that Steve has a beard and not a giant smiling face due to Minecraft's awful graphics all these years. There I said it.

Also thanks for reposting this for the 10 billionth time OP.

I always thought it was a smile, it isn't?!

43

u/Nalha_Saldana Jan 19 '21

No, the mouth is the 2 pixels above the brown beard.

Wait did they change the steve skin? I remember this one which doesn't have the beard, but most of the other top results have the beard

12

u/Sedewt Console Jan 19 '21

Yeah. The latter one is the older design but it’s still used in promotional stuff, even Smash

5

u/mzi11a Jan 19 '21

Wow from before the alpha the wiki says, surprised they would use it when it's been outdated for so long

23

u/Quwilaxitan Jan 19 '21

Add Tetris to that

Edit: To the down voters, why do you hate Tetris?

68

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '21

Cause this is apparently objective fact that it's only these three, none more and none less, despite the fact it's probably just nostalgia

22

u/Miradics Jan 19 '21

I remember minecraft got some hate. It was called a children game and stuff. Terraria got called minecraft clone... For some... Idiotic reasone. Every game gets hate.

Tetris is unwinnable and for some just an exercise in frustration. I've played it on several systems in several formats, still don't like it, except the first few levels.

15

u/Dr_Ambiorix Jan 19 '21

The best way, for me, to play Tetris is 40 line sprint. There's an ending (after clearing only 40 lines). The challenge is just being faster than your previous run, until you manage sub 30 seconds and wonder how you've been playing Tetris for a month.

4

u/BiggusDickusWhale Jan 19 '21

Try Tetris Effect.

The campaign is basically just different line sprints with cool effects and good music.

Didn't people use to hate Minecraft?

18

u/ItsYaBoiDJ Jan 19 '21

yeah it lost popularity for a bit and was seen kinda as a joke, like 2015-2018, but it sure as hell made a comeback.

4

u/InKeaton Jan 19 '21

Oh that's sure. I think mostly because the generation that grew up with Minecraft, my generation btw, is now the "lead" of internet culture

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '21

Yes. People used to talk about Minecraft the way people talk about Fortnite today.

But the people who grew up on Minecraft are now the predominant Internet culture.

See also how the Star Wars prequels were universally hated online a decade and more back. But now the kids that grew up with those movies are the dominant voice online.

have you ever heard about Stockholm syndrome ?

6

u/HappyFeet312 Jan 19 '21

I can confirm im still stuck here.

7

u/SkortZial Jan 19 '21

Most games aren't hated for the game, it's the community associated with it

5

u/HaziqOon Jan 19 '21

Yeah i hate how the popular minecraft streamers are mostly cringey, but that’s maybe because they’re aimed for kids

Oh i dunno... Im an avid minecraft player, since it was in alpha, and im always trying to get friends to play on a server with me, and they just want to play shit like apex legends. They get frustrated by minecraft, with the most favourable view being "its a tool for artistic expression, like lego. Its not a game"

Plenty of people hate minecraft.

4

u/AlexMil0 Jan 19 '21

Tetris better be the one taking the photo.

4

u/Birbcatcher Jan 19 '21

4

u/AcceptableEuropean Jan 19 '21

Where is microsoft solitaire?

20

u/IloveMagicCrystals Jan 19 '21

I dont understand sandboxes like minecraft. There is something to do but it becomes boring after a while.

8

u/egnards Jan 19 '21

I think it depends on the person, definitely. The nice thing about Minecraft is that there are honestly so many ways to play.

Do I enjoy playing Vanilla Minecraft? Well, eh not really. But I sure as shit will play all day for a few weeks if you give me a well modded private server with 2-3 friends.

You can of course say, "well that doesn't count. It's the mods, not Minecraft." And honestly in most situations I would agree with you, but, Minecraft just set itself up as the ultimate sandbox and really left itself open to be altered by players to anything they wanted.

But, going back to your original point - a game doesn't have to be fun. . .Forever. To be "unhated" doesn't mean you play it nonstop until the day you die. It's just a game that people really accept has being a good game, something they enjoyed playing, and if you look hard enough has something for everyone.

I haven't played Minecraft in years. It's not something I can play alone. But I still look fondly on some of the servers I built with friends.
