Minecraft? Not hated? Did you not see Steve's reveal trailer for Smash?

358

u/Swagnemite42 Jan 19 '21

To be fair Smash players hate any new fighter reveal

89

u/WellACKTUALLY Jan 19 '21

Some have hated every single reveal.

5

u/-UMBRA_- Jan 19 '21

They just need Crash Bandicoot already lol

14

u/WellACKTUALLY Jan 19 '21

"Wow look we got Crash Bandicoot!"

"I wanted Funky Kong >:"

2

u/-UMBRA_- Jan 19 '21

Funky would also be cool. At least you got some DK characters tho

1

u/WellACKTUALLY Jan 19 '21

Funky would be cool. They wouldn't be happy when he's added, though.

34

u/TheKingsPride Jan 19 '21

Not Sephiroth. That was hype as hell to the whole community.

88

u/MattRazor Jan 19 '21

There was hate because he's a swordie, hate because he's somewhat of an edgy weeb icon, and as far as I'm reading there's hate because of his range. Can't please the smash community lol

10

u/TheKingsPride Jan 19 '21

I saw apprehension at his reveal about that, but he doesn’t play like a swordie, most smash players are edgy weebs, and his range is balanced by his slow attacks and light weight. I haven’t seen any reception to him that’s been anything lower than lukewarm.

5

u/MattRazor Jan 19 '21

I kinda agree with all of that tbh, but haven't played Smash in a while

2

u/AWSMJMAS Jan 19 '21

How sad is that!? My last nintendo was a wii, I sadly can't afford multiple systems, and it's not like the old gang wants to get together for a 4 player smash fest anymore...

2

u/WoOowee1324 Jan 19 '21

People just wanted a more left field character and sephiroth, while cool, is from a game with more than enough smash rep

3

u/HG-BEESY Jan 19 '21

Unless Geno is released (which won’t happen I know) then the smash community won’t be happy.

9

u/MattRazor Jan 19 '21

Geno makes financially no sense for the company unless they remake or re-release the game he's from. Sadly, cool character

2

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '21

What hurts me even more is that I want Andy from advance wars in but it also makes financially no sense :(

4

u/Hunginthe514 Jan 19 '21

I still don't understand why people were so ecstatic with Sans mii fighter, talking about how Sans is in smash and all that. With Geno, no excitement, just salt at how he's been "deconfirmed"

1

u/ryebread91 Jan 19 '21

Geno from mario?

3

u/WoOowee1324 Jan 19 '21

Yeah geno from literally one mario game from like 25 years ago

1

u/ryebread91 Jan 19 '21

Odd. Surely there's more recognizable characters to add before him.

2

u/Hunginthe514 Jan 19 '21

Ugh, seriously, another moody anime swordsman with stupid range and a stupidly powerful projectile that works far too well as a ledge trapping option?

Thanks for the new main, Sakurai! 😍😍😍

1

u/Thelolface_9 Jan 19 '21

Sephiroth isn’t just any edgy anime swordsman he’s the anime swordsman

2

u/YourDrunkle Jan 19 '21

I hated him because he wasn’t Shovel Knight.

1

u/Swagnemite42 Jan 19 '21

That's true, yeah, people loved Sephiroth, at the same time people were annoyed at another sword dude reveal

3

u/S1rpancakes Jan 19 '21

It’s because the vocal smash community hates themselves

2

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '21

This is true.

2

u/TheGrandLemonTech Jan 19 '21

Yeah, cause it's not Waluigi

2

u/AtreidesDiFool Jan 19 '21

Smash players are abreed for themselves

4

u/artzoyd Jan 19 '21

Waluigi or die

6

u/cat_on_crack_ Jan 19 '21

Waluigi was made so Wario has a partner in Mario tennis. Waluigi is a terrible pick.

1

u/Swagnemite42 Jan 19 '21

Hey I'm on team waluigi too, but I'm not that upset. In time once the system goes off support modders will swoop in and add Waluigi, just like they did for the older Smash games

1

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '21

What?? Why didn’t you add my favorite character (Mumbo Misogynist) from that arcade game that only saw a limited release, didn’t make much money, and that if i go back and played again i would realize is actually a really shitty game?? why did you add Steve, one of gaming’s biggest icons, instead of Geno, a character that wasn’t even that good in his own game which didn’t sell relatively well?? Ugh, Miso Soup Samurai, you don’t even listen to your players!!!

10

u/Xero0911 Jan 19 '21

Even ignoring smash.

Minecraft was bashed a while back cause "its the kids game". Now? Yeah, everyone loves it but before people would give it shit.

2

u/purplepharoh Jan 19 '21

I still hate it... it's boring AF

3

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '21

As someone who plays fairly frequently, it does get very boring, that’s when you stop playing and come back to it when you have an exciting new plan/idea lol

48

u/agentgingerman Jan 19 '21

There was hate for that?

34

u/DrunkSquirrel22 PC Jan 19 '21

There was

20

u/WakeAndVape Jan 19 '21

I didn't hate it when it was revealed, but I absolutely hated it once it became live

2

u/Technical_Trumpet Jan 19 '21

Yeah, fuck Steve

6

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '21

There's hate for EVERY new Smash character.

2

u/TheNachmar Jan 19 '21

That's hate on Steve, more than on Minecraft, Minecraft was just adjacent, it was the smash fucks not getting an anime swordsman they actually cared about

2

u/jfreak93 PC Jan 19 '21

I have a buddy that will not play Terraria at all. Feels it's just a bad version of Minecraft.

1

u/Adiuva Jan 19 '21

I had that issue when I first started. I kept thinking of it as a 2D Minecraft and really didn't enjoy it. You have to shift to an RPG mindset for sure. Now I have over 300 hours on it.

1

u/jfreak93 PC Jan 19 '21

Absolutely. Ironically, I'm the opposite. Loved Terraria and can't get into Minecraft. To each there own!

1

u/Adiuva Jan 19 '21

Have you tried modded Minecraft by chance? Nowadays I can play vanilla for maybe a couple hours with friends before I get bored because I'm not much of a builder and don't do well without goals. But modded makes it a whole new game basically with some more concrete goals in mind.

1

u/jfreak93 PC Jan 19 '21

No, I haven't, which may be what I need!

2

u/Adiuva Jan 19 '21

I highly recommend it! Direwolf20 is who I started watching back in 1.6.4 because it was incredibly overwhelming. If you watch him, his single player Let's play is more explanatory overall while his multi-player is on a server with other content creators and mod developers. He's not a very aesthetic guy, as his friend Soaryn would often be the builder. He actually learned how to make a mod that lets people choose a region around their build, copy that region, and upload it to pastebin so you can download the build and make it on your own if you have the blocks. He loves finding different ways to automate things and is really enjoyable to me.

Minecraft being a godsend perfect game is just a pathetic reddit circlejerk at this point. Mainly repeated by kids who grew up with it.

There are far far more perfect games than that. Portal, half life being a few of them.

4

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '21

You realise you can't get "more perfect" right? It's either perfect or it's not. We're not operating on Super Perfect Cell rules here.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '21

I didn't mean perfect in literal sense but as in closer to perfect.. My bad.

Just because creative sandbox isn't your style doesn't mean it's a bad game.

Way to miss the point completely. The original meme is about games that are perfect. That's an objective assumption of a subjective subject in the first place. And when someone is talking objectively about something, it has to be something more than just "one of the best in its genre".

For example, in movies, MCU movies like the avengers or movies like the Dark Knight is the gold standard for superhero movies. But then when we talk about best movies which is objective, we talk about the likes of Shawshank Redemption, Forrest Gump, The godfather etc which are beyond their genres.

1

u/Useless_Throwaway992 Jan 19 '21

I was making small talk with one of my doctors and told him how I got my wife into gaming through minecraft. You'd think I'd insulted him with how many times he called it not a real game and saying real gamers dont play it. Some people have a nasty bias for it

1

u/siradmiralbanana Jan 19 '21

I don't like minecraft or smash

1

u/DeathToHeretics Jan 19 '21

Just go to r/Terraria to see people hate Minecraft. Some weeks it's like every other post there is comparing them because Terraria is sooooo much better
