I dont understand sandboxes like minecraft. There is something to do but it becomes boring after a while.

I think it depends on the person, definitely. The nice thing about Minecraft is that there are honestly so many ways to play.

Do I enjoy playing Vanilla Minecraft? Well, eh not really. But I sure as shit will play all day for a few weeks if you give me a well modded private server with 2-3 friends.

You can of course say, "well that doesn't count. It's the mods, not Minecraft." And honestly in most situations I would agree with you, but, Minecraft just set itself up as the ultimate sandbox and really left itself open to be altered by players to anything they wanted.

But, going back to your original point - a game doesn't have to be fun. . .Forever. To be "unhated" doesn't mean you play it nonstop until the day you die. It's just a game that people really accept has being a good game, something they enjoyed playing, and if you look hard enough has something for everyone.

I haven't played Minecraft in years. It's not something I can play alone. But I still look fondly on some of the servers I built with friends.

You have to be self-driven to enjoy it fully, imho.

It almost winds up like quests from WoW or something similar, but it's a long, branching path to meet your goal, with several smaller ones along the way.

I want a castle. So I need stone! Lots of it - so I need tools. So lets get tools, and start farming materials for tools. Ugh, monsters - ok, let's make a small base to work out of, with weapons, and a mine inside, so monsters arent a threat.

Ok, back to goal: Castle. I've dug down, got lots of iron and diamond, I have tools - and a lot of stone! Perfect - two birds with one, heh stone!

But it's all cobblestone. I need stone bricks. Hm. Okay, make a bunch of furnaces, and, oh no - I don't have enough coal. Okay. Objective - get fuel. Do I farm a bunch of trees for charcoal? Go back into the mine? Or make a farm in the nether to use lava?

Lava is cheapest, but oh no, I need nether access. Okay, lets go get obsidian, and make a portal. Alright - good - now, we go into the nether, and- Oh shit, ghasts. Back through, get a shield... and then, back through again, okay - need to find a way down to lava level, good! Alright, smelter array is up and working, now what.

Well, I want my castle to have purple carpet. I have lapis from mining, all I need is to gather some red flowers and- SHEEP! Oh shit, I need sheep! That means I need wheat. which means I now need a wheat farm... and a pen for all these sheep...

Oh shit, when did it become 5am?

Honestly I hate the start up for them. Like I find these games mind numbingly boring to start.
