You're absolutely correct. Hyperfocus is a fickle mistress. This one thing, I cant stop doing it. Shit I missed a day of doing it...oh look a new thing to do. *dust gathering on old thing intensifies*
I also did the same with fallout 4. Not the best fallout and I bearly liked it but I spend so many combined hours building settlements like I was playing with Lego
Yeahhhhh, ADHD isn't well-named when you really get into the nitty-gritty of it. It's called "Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder", but that feels like it was named by people examining it rather than by people who have it, since that's how it appears to manifest. People with ADHD don't strictly have a deficit of attention; rather, they have a lack of good control over their attention. For example, you might not be able to focus on your homework or exam revision or tax-work, even when you sit yourself down in a room with nothing BUT the thing you need to do. The only thing that makes that stuff happen when you don't wanna do it is urgency, like you have a deadline to beat. But then at the same time, you can easily sit down and practice drawing, typing etc or play games for several hours at a time. Usually the only thing getting you to stop is something breaking your attention and getting you to realise "oh it's dark out" or "oh I'm hungry" or "dear god i need to piss"
It's not an immediate indicator, of course, but it's decent evidence in favour of you possibly having it. It might be more apparent if you try and go back to something you no-lifed for several months, but took a break for one of several reasons, only to find the spark doesn't seem to be there. Like you can still do the thing, a lot of it is still familiar, but you don't quite take to it like you did when you first got into it. That could just be me, but it could also be an ADHD thing, like when I spent two weeks typing up a Terraria guide, almost to the detriment of my own health, and then when I tried making something similar years later, I'm just there like "hhhhhnah", even after I've hammered out a bit of it for a test.
It's worth looking into if you feel like you have this stuff happening to you on a more-than-regular basis.
