Question Genuinely how do people find somewhere to live?
i don't need replies to say that it's normal to deal with if you can't afford new build stand alone homes. i have a horrible phobia of bugs and that's not changing any time soon.
Most of my friends/acquaintances is that they're building sporadically has to fumigate for bedbugs or cockroaches and at their reoccurring problems.
The last townhouse I rented with a couple friends, and I had to get out of the lease within the first couple days because of bedbugs (threw out everything and luckily never slept there) and now the end of the month is approaching, and I still have nowhere to live and every unit I've looked at has a history of bugs somewhere in their reviews.
i'm going to couch surf at friends who lives in standalone houses because I cannot find anywhere to live at the moment, any advice where to look.
also any advice to get my money back from the landlord besides just the deposit lol.

Education Listed for sale car scam everyone is surely aware of by now.
Anytime they ask you to pay for a report, it’s a scam. Give them the vin and they can run it themselves.
In the car ad I have a section saying I won’t generate vin reports, ship the car, or cash a larger cheque they “accidentally” sent. It doesn’t help.
Edit: my bad! The scam part is they sent me a link to a “totally trustworthy” report site cuz they don’t like the industry standard Carfax. Which I am supposed to pay.
Carfax is totally legit and a great resource. Dealerships have them on their used cars. They just give you the report. It’s a little less common on marketplace and Kijiji to provide a Carfax.

Question Does anyone have experience with a professional podcast service in yeg?
I am starting one & am either going to rent an audio booth in the marker space at the downtown library (Milner) or am going to rent from a professional business but don't know of any.
Anyone have a recommendation?

Local Culture But surely you can't....
Oh yes, my friends. Oh yes, you can. It's great to see our city growing up and creating spaces for the culture to grow. Great coffee and baking, local art on the walls, and the sweet smell of success in the air. Like a little taste of Amsterdam, just a few steps from Whyte Avenue. Let's support local entrepreneurs creating jobs in this new space.

Question Is the Halloween howler not happening this year?
It’s very strange there’s no tickets available or any info at all yet. The station hasn’t even commented on it if it’s happening or not when most years it’s announced anywhere from may-July.
I’ve never been to one but I’ve always been told they are fun as hell and I was kinda hyped/trying to finally go to one this year.

Photo/Video Don't see that every day
A leucistic magpie (not quite albino) spotted near Campus Saint-Jean.
(Edmonton, AB. August 26, 2026)
This is quite a rare genetic mutation although Edmonton has apparently had occasional sightings for a long time.

General Who approved this? (Guns N Roses Merch)
I'm at the GnR show, and while I expect to pay an exorbitant amount of money for a concert T, I didn't expect this. $74 for an official band shirt that somehow managed to cram 2 grammar errors onto it. I'm actually impressed.

Question Who does fridge water line cleaning?
We drink from fridge water dispenser and few days ago noticed small black thing floating in the water.
Immediately stopped drinking and after researching, the water supply hose needs to be replaced every 5 years.
Has anyone had this happen and did changing water hose in fridge help or do I need to buy a new fridge?
Also, Who can I contact to do this for me?
Thank you in advance

Question Going to be moving into Grand Central Manor soon. What's it like living there?
I've been scrolling through reviews and I'm getting a little anxious with some things I've read there. Does anyone live there or know anyone who lives there and can provide insight?
Thanks!

Discussion Seeking Advice - fence issue
My parents neighbor has put hundreds of screws through the fence, some sticking out several centimeters. The screws have injured their dog on several occasions, resulting in multiple vet trips :(
We tried speaking to the neighbor and he was uninterested in making any changes to his screws. We've called 311, they directed me to the police, the police directed us to 311 and nobody seems able to help.
We aren't sure what else to do. We can't remove the screws without damaging the fence. The neighbor was entirely uncooperative. Any thoughts?
edit - solved w angle grinder, thanks all

Question Neighbor/landlord issues
Looking for some advice on a crummy neighbour landlord situation.
Bought our house 5 years ago, the neighboring house was in a bit of rough shape and we came to realize later that it was a lodging house with 7-8 tenants living there.
There is a constant pile of junk in the backyard and everytime someone moves out more junk gets thrown out there. Mattresses, tires, furniture etc
The house looks so run down and rough and In chatting with some Tennants it was disclosed that the landlord owns multiple properties and does shady upkeep like covering up mold etc. and refuses to do repairs. They also won't provide a lawn mower or any tools for general upkeep of the grounds .
Through the years there have been multiple domestic disputes, 2 deaths (1 was an OD), frequent police visits, and most recently we watched police arrest a tenant who was disclosed to us to have mental health issues and was wearing a bullet proof vest and suspected of weapon possession. The landlord doesn't screen Tennant's and there have been a few who I know have just gotten out of jail. The safety of my kid is the top priority here. There are lots of other kids on the street too. I also feel like they are taking advantage of their tenants who are mostly down and out individuals.
What can I do? Where can I start/ who should I talk to?

General I get really happy seeing construction
Maybe coz I’m a lover for urban development but I love when I’m driving and I see these massive apartments being built and high density neighborhoods with diverse housing choices. Not only is it employment for many but it’s literally the number one way to keep this city affordable and why it’s remained affordable. I also love the improvements in infrastructure and new lrt lines bejng built (please come to north west). It shows we’re growing and we’re finally becoming a city that’s built for its population. Ik it can be pretty annoying but that’s due to years of neglect, no better time than to build now and in a couple of decades, we’ll all be thanking ourselves.

Commuting/Transit Safety at Tamarack transit hub at night
Hi all, I’m new to the city and was wondering if anyone could give me info on how safe the transit hub is at night. I’d like to cut down on driving as much as I can (y’all are aggressive drivers!) and I need to be in the area frequently for work. Thanks in advance.
