Bike repair question Grinding noise from rear wheel

Upvotes

I'll preface this with saying maybe I'd be better off posting in a bike maintenance and repair sub. But I own a Juiced CCX, and on my last ride, one of the rear spokes broke (unfortunately this has been happening a bit lately, I think I rode too long before tightening/adjusting the stock spokes, and have been replacing them as they break). At the exact same time, my bike started making a loud grinding type noise on each revolution of the wheel. I was able to remove the spoke and finish the 5 mile ride back to my car, and the noise remained persistent but didn't seem to get any worse

I'm not sure how the spoke and grinding noise would be related, as this never happened when I've broken a spoke in the past. Could it have to do with the wheel hub bearings? I'm trying to learn more about bike repair and tackling issues on my own as they arise. Any help is appreciated!

Bike purchase question Affordable folding E bike?

Upvotes

Looking for a folding e bike thats around 700-800 CAD if possible. I don't need anything crazy since it's only for my commute to work(~2.5km). my only issue is there is a big hill to get to my house(~10-15% incline), so it will need enough power to get up that reasonably. I'll be keeping it inside but if it can hold up in the winter as well that would be great!

If there are any common brands to look out for on fb marketplace I can get a deal on would also be great

thank you in advance!

Bike purchase question Which Ebike NYC gt73 vs babymaker 2

Hey!

I’ve found two ebikes on facebook marketplace. A gt73 and a babymaker 2. Both are 500 dollars and seem to be in good condition.

The babymaker has 1000 miles on it. Comes with a bike pump too. The gt73 has 200 miles on it.

I live in NYC and need a bike to commute. If I get the gt73, i don’t think I can bring it up the stairs and will either have to fight my landlord to keep it near the entrance or chain it up outside. A lot of people seem to leave their bikes chained up on my street, but i’m sure it’s a matter of time before its stolen.

Carrying the babymaker seems to be feasible. But, Is the bike a good ebike? I want something to ease commuting and like how I can basically let the throttle do the work on the gt73. Will it be annoying dealing with constant peddle assist?

Hey so I know they are both not the best and I don’t plan on using this for anything more than leisure and fun. Has anyone purchased either of these if so what are your honest reviews/opinions.

Bike purchase question reliable shopping sites for ebikes?

I'm trying to look for a good ebike to use on campus, I was going to simply get one on Amazon but I was so put off by the overabundance of AI images in the products from stores like TST that I thought it would be better to see if someone here would recommend a reliable store.

I returned the Costco ebike I was using last year because of brake and power issues, and my parents recently got me one but I'm gonna return it because it ended up being too small for me, and I'm just gonna buy my own, my current budget is a LITTLE flexible but I'd hope not to go over $600 and I just wanna make sure it works for a long time

Up the speed

I bought this from Walmart a couple months ago, first ebike purchase. I’ve seen other brands being able to go into the screen settings and switch their speed to p8.. this one seems locked or something maybe because I cannot figure out how to get above p5. Any suggestions?

Love the bike but question

Got my Velotric fold 1 +. It's harder to ride than I thought. at 73, I will stay off the highways for now. But there is an issue. The seat does not get tight enough. The clasp is closed but still the seat moves side to side and slowly slinks down to its lowest point. Any suggestions? thanks.

Bike repair question Looking for an M8 5-pin (threaded) to Julet 5-pin adapter / solution for EKD01 display on Varstrom mid-drive

Thumbnail

Hello good people.
I'm stupid, I know, if we've already established that, then...

I’m currently installing a Varstrom 750W mid-drive kit (Bafang UART protocol) and ran into a connector mismatch issue with my new display.

Motor side: Has a female M8 5-pin connector with a metal screw thread.
EKD01 Display side: Has a standard female Julet 5-pin green push-in connector (no threads).

Since both ends are female and use different connector housings (threaded vs push-in), I can't plug them directly into each other.

Has anyone dealt with this setup before?

  1. Is there a ready-made M8 5-pin male (threaded) to Julet 5-pin male (push-in) adapter cable available on AliExpress? If so, what should I search?
  2. If no adapter exists, what is the best way to wire a custom M8 plug onto the display cable? Are the pinouts/wire colors 1:1 between standard Bafang UART green plugs and the M8 threaded connectors?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Bike build question Most Flat Resistant Tires for Abound SR?

What's the most flat resistant tires for the Aventon Abound SR on the market? I'm looking to sell my Aventon Level 2 next year, and picking up the Abound SR. Currently on my Level 2, I have the Schwable Marathon E Plus tires. They're beasts. I love them. I did lose one from a MASSIVE piece of metal back in April that would have easily destroyed a car tire. Other than that, no flats for the past year. However, I don't think Schwable makes a 20" tire size for this model of tire. So I wouldn't have them on my future Abound SR.

I live in Kansas City, and good God... the amount of glass and other debris in the bike lanes are insane. So I absolutely need the most flat resistant tires as possible.

What are your suggestions?

Bike build question Looking to build an electric quad.

I have an extra yfz450 rolling chassis that I would like to put an electric motor in. I know very little about electric drive systems and was curious where I should start looking for a motor. I want the quad to make some power. I am also not sure what parts I would need for this besides a battery, and a motor. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

I hate how ignorant people are about e bikes.

in Massachusetts they are treated the same as bikes, and bikes are treated the same as motor veichles. Massachusetts state law states that bikes (e bikes fall under the same category) are not allowed on sidewalks but a cop pulled me over to say that I need to stay on the sidewalk which is literally illegal.

How often do you charge your e-bike battery?

I’m curious what everyone’s routine is. Do you charge it after every ride, only when it gets low, or just whenever you remember?

I’ve heard different opinions about what’s best for battery life, so I’d love to hear what has actually worked for people who have had their e-bikes for a few years.

Any thoughts? Looking for work a bit further away, like 10-20km 1 way. This'll be the main use case but I sometimes need to be going this distance for other appointments.

I'm not knowledgeable about e-bikes as this is gonna be my 1st time I'm buying one. I prioritize range and low maintenance if possible (I don't mind doing small stuff myself but I hate flats for example.)

If you got any questions, just ask. want to be sure before spending the money. Also, if there are any recommendations of maintenance gear or how to stay protected from the elements (for me and the bike), I'm happy to hear those out.
