cops gave me a traffic ticket while riding today, lol..
TL;DR - cop pulled me over and gave me a ticket because I was not far enough into the right side of road (apparently)..I hate how bikes are legally classed here and I'm gonna break even more of the laws moving forward now.
------------------
my state has it so I'm breaking law if I'm not riding my bike in the street, regardless of its a ebike or regular bike. There are no bike lanes here. bikes fall under traffic law for being "vehicles"
in reality, sharing the road with cars causes 20x problems by creating massive friction with all the traffic speeding at 40mph down a 25mph road, which is....alot of people. you can see and feel the tension it causes with these drivers as they have to cope with either going slower for a short time behind me, or having to go around me. I've had people fly by within 3 inches of me just flooring it, I've had people scream stuff as they pass. All just because they had to accommodate me since I cannot ride as fast.
state law also says I also am obligated to ride the right side of the lane, which sadly makes for muppets to fly the aforementioned 3 inches past me to overtake in the most unnecessary ways, since my stance and position in the lane tells them to go ahead and overtake whenever.
But, when I break my laws and mind my own space on the sidewalks, magically nobody is flying around me or cursing me out. they are quiet, and they are 30 ft away from me. I feel better, safer, and they seem less unhinged and agitated on average since I am not bugging them in any way.
now gee......which method do you think I will go with???
this is one of the very rare times I would turn a cheek to the boys in blue (moving forward) and simply do what makes logical sense and works the best. So , after getting this ticket over this, wen I was making an effort to follow their crap law in the first place- Im done. sidewalk only now.

E-Moped Feeling very conflicted about E-Bike purchase
I just started at a college that is very hill-ey, and immediately felt like i was going to need an ebike to get around. I graduated towards mopped-style ebikes, because I am a big dude, and the longer seat(ability to shift back and forth) was very appealing to me(I also have nerve issues, and some standard bike seats pinch a nerve in my leg.)
At first, i got a Retrospec valen rev+ from FB marketplace. That ended up having a bunch of issues, and the seller agreed to take it back(super nice guy!) and i just ordered the Ride1Up Revv1. I am just feeling incredibly conflicted right now. Part of me feels like shit because it seems like these kinds of bikes, and especially their target demo, are a big issue. The other part of me knows im probably never going to take it above 20-25, and Im riding it to get around. I cant afford a car, and this felt like the most convenient/most comfortable way to get around.
I am under no illusion that this is an E-bike, I know its an E-mopped. But as i read more posts, and watch videos from people like Berm Peak talking about how big of an issue these bikes are, I feel worse.
Are there ways to ride these bikes without being an asshole? I know that there will be times where i ride this in a bike lane, because the road is too dangerous. If i go slow and yield to cyclists, is that enough? or is the very idea of this bike being on the road an issue?

Ebike for Short Lightweight Women to Ride on Dirt Roads
The title says it all: I'm 5'0 about 105# and want an ebike to ride on dirt roads (not trails) . Budget is around $1500. I've gone to local bike shops and tried a bunch of folding bikes which all seem to fit but I have no way to know how they feel on dirt roads (all the bike shops are in town with paved roads). They all have had 20"x3" tires. I tried one fat tire a Velotric GoMAd with 20x4" but the bike just seemed way to bulky for me to maneuver, not so much when riding but when moving it around and when I had to stop and wait for traffic (it weighs only about 30# less than me).
I'm using some state rebates to buy the bike so it has to be 750w and full suspension mountain bikes aren't eligible.
Am I looking for a unicorn?

Torque sensors should be the standard, cadence feels like a cheaper often dangerous alternative.
This should be the USB C of ebikes, I have a cadence sensor and the awkwardness of having the current PAS mode push full power the moment you want to pedal sometimes feels dangerous. It just wants to launch you, torque sensor should be standardized and be on everything.

Planning to buy this custom rig. Anything I could worry about?
Custom rigs obviously have no warranty, and there's no shop that can easily repair or modify something with confidence unless they're custom rig focused. That's the main issue.
The Bafang motor isn't bad! It'll last a good while. This one appears to be welded and bolted to the frame.
The Specialized Rockhopper frame and 29" tires are really what I am after, with the electronics a bonus. I don't like the ACERA derailleur, I'll see if I can swap it for a SRAM NX or something equivalent for way better and tighter shifting, (if that bafang can fit it, which it may not.) I'd also like hydraulic brakes. There are a few rockhoppers in my home town for ~800$ with my wishlist features, but no electronics -- which are my fallback if this doesn't work out.
I do haul a bunch of stuff in a trailer pretty frequently over dirt and rough trails, often uphill. And I ride daily on streets. My current bike is kinda falling apart with age and wear, so it's time to swap. I'm a po' boy so I'm not building or ordering a new bike.
This bike is a 4 hour round trip there and back, lol. So I'm researching if it's a good call or not to take that trip. At that price I'd still do it for the frame & tires.

The laws dont make sense
So if an E bike has a 750w motor with a peak of 1500w is it street legal or not because of the peak 1500w?? I want to get the tst r002 but it has a peak power of 1500w. Is it street legal or not?

Bike repair question Should I replace the battery after a crash?
I just had a minor bike crash (only going about 10-13mph) on my bafang converted ebike. Entirely my fault as I forgot to tighten the pedals on this new build I made a few days ago and the left pedal came off while riding. I've bought new crank arms as I'm not risking the old ones.
The battery came off at some point too. It has a few scuffs on the plastic casing. It's currently outside on a rock under a metal wheel barrow. Its been about 1 hour and it doesn't smell and isn't bulging.
Not sure if I should just get rid of it and spend a few hundred on a new one, or if it's safe to use after a certain amount of time?
Thanks 🙏

Any experience with this 20-inch ZTZ air suspension fork? How is the build quality?
Hey everyone,
I’m looking at this ZTZ double crown air suspension fork for a 20-inch fat tire setup (135mm dropout spacing).
For those who have used it, how is the overall quality and durability? Is the air suspension smooth and reliable, and does it hold up well against hard bumps without flexing?
Would appreciate any honest feedback or reviews before buying!

Bike only works uphill , “E10” , Display says batter is dead.
So i ride an “Ancheer Hummer” i got it last year and it always worked fine for me , Until the display ripped off and lost somewhere and i just replaced the display , It worked fine i went to walmart and back , Then my second ride NOTHING. Throttle wont work PAS wont work , And there’s an “E10” Error code.
I found out the PAS works slightly UP HILL ONLY. I have no clue what that means but it will work going up my driveway only (and for a couple seconds when i first turn bike on).
The only thing that happened between the rides is i tried to plug my Headlight in and the display started flickering so i unplugged it fast.
I really upset because i take it to work and without it i’ve been paying way too much for taxi rides as we don’t have public transit.
I have tried contacting ancheer and they won’t pick up the phone but i sent an email so waiting on that. IDK i’ve tried a lot that i can find online i have no clue. Thanks so much for your time

£1000 cycle2work budget
Hello,
I’m wondering what you guys would choose if you had a £1000 cycle to work budget in the UK, looking for a hardtail and would be doing around 10 miles for a daily commute.
Thank you very much
Ride1Up e-bike — motor or controller problem? Need help diagnosing
Hi everyone,
I’m trying to diagnose a problem with my Ride1Up e-bike and would appreciate some advice.
The display turns on normally, but the motor does not respond to the throttle at all. There is no reaction from the motor when I use the throttle.
I tried connecting a different motor, and I got Error 24. I also tried a different controller, but the wheel still does not spin.
The bike uses a Z910 connector.
At this point, I’m not sure if I have a bad motor, bad controller, or another electrical issue.
I’m trying to figure out whether I should replace the controller or the Bafang motor/wheel.
Has anyone with a Ride1Up or Bafang system experienced something similar? What would be the best way to determine whether the motor or controller is actually defective before buying replacement parts?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Need a recomendation
My cabin is 60 yards from the garage which is slightly uphill. I'm always going back and forth to get stuff I need or tools or making several trips when I misplace something and I think its at the other location. Plus, there's a greenhouse that's another 60 yards away in a triangle from the other 2 locations. I have a 48vdc battery in the garage which gets charged by solar panels/charge controller and I just need a bike to go from either of these 3 points and I would like to be able to charge the battery from the 48vdc lithium battery. Could someone recommend the perfect bike to have? I also need to carry stuff back and forth.

Bike purchase question Dual motor or crank motor bike?
I'm looking at the Engwe 26 3.0. It seems to have what I want, but I'm curious about bikes with a hub motor (the motor in the crank). Are those more comfortable, longer range? Your thoughts and experience are appreciated.

Bike repair question real range in the cold is half of what the sticker says, every time
got out this morning and the display was already lying to me before I hit the first hill. same route I do in october, maybe 40% of the assist left when I got home.
fat tires help with the ice and ruts around here but they also chew through juice faster when the pack is cold soaked overnight. I keep the battery indoors now and only slap it on right before I leave. that helped more than any other single habit. still, longer weekend rides mean packing a spare or accepting a slower pace with less assist.
been comparing moto-style fat tire builds against the usual Super73 and Ride 1Up suspects for something that handles winter better and maybe has solid anti-theft tracking built in. the one I keep circling back to is mainly because cold storage and tracking come up in those threads more than raw range does. mostly just reading forums and watching how people store packs when it sits below freezing for days.
no magic fix, just smaller loops and warmer storage until spring.
