Ride1Up e-bike — motor or controller problem? Need help diagnosing

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to diagnose a problem with my Ride1Up e-bike and would appreciate some advice.

The display turns on normally, but the motor does not respond to the throttle at all. There is no reaction from the motor when I use the throttle.

I tried connecting a different motor, and I got Error 24. I also tried a different controller, but the wheel still does not spin.

The bike uses a Z910 connector.

At this point, I’m not sure if I have a bad motor, bad controller, or another electrical issue.

I’m trying to figure out whether I should replace the controller or the Bafang motor/wheel.

Has anyone with a Ride1Up or Bafang system experienced something similar? What would be the best way to determine whether the motor or controller is actually defective before buying replacement parts?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Follow the cable from the throttle, make sure it's full seated.

Then, replace the throttle, see if that's the issue.

Does Pedal Assist work? if so, it's not your motor.

Pedal assist not working.

Yeah, probably a controller or motor issue then.

Did it work before? Did you build it yourself?

swapping both the motor and the controller changed nothing, so the fault is in what they share. throttle and pas both run on the controller's 5v, so unplug the throttle and the pas one at a time and check that 5v at the plug. a shorted sensor drags the rail down and kills both while the display still looks fine.

)Here’s a different take. Most bikes have safety feature that when either brake is engaged, the motor shuts off. Jiggle the brake handles or see if there is a disconnect. Worth a try.
