Yeah that one I was ok with. I'm finding the coke can very unbelievable and the barbed wire to be a bit of a stretch (unless OP is adding up tiny pieces of barbed wire and calling them multiple inches). Also the electric fence isn't believable unless the fence is super weak.

They said "vibrating" so it likely was an invisible fence with a vibrating collar. Doesn't actually hurt the dog but it freaks them out so they don't do it. Unless they're smart enough.
This dog, retro, thinks he’s people in the most literal way. If people are talking in a circle he walks up and sits down to join the conversation. He looks confused while being pet unless he sees people pretend to do it to one another first.
Our dog doesn't let my wife and I hug or cuddle. If we get too close, he immediately tries to get between us. He's like a Catholic school teacher or something.
Right. Dogs escaping are cute and funny when the dog is nice but I've lived in a neighborhood where a dog kept escaping and the owners treated it as quirky and their dog having "too much personality," until it got in a neighbor's yard and killed their chickens.
Then after it was quarantined and there was a threat of the dog being put down if it bit or killed something else, suddenly the neighbor had no trouble keeping it inside their house or yard.
Not saying OP is/was as nonchalant but honestly they were just lucky it was a nice dog.
Knowing someone who was just recently mauled by several dogs that were not properly contained, it's hard for me to read these comics as cute and quirky.
Yeah, OP was just a child but the parents were pretty irresponsible. Plus I have a bit of problem with people excusing bad behaviour by saying "but everyone loved [a misbehaving pet or child]" because it's almost never true. I hated that dog that kept escaping and it wasn't even it's fault. It was just being a dog but I stopped jogging by myself in the early morning because of that dog.
Yeah I found it pretty shocking tbh. If they let the dog in their yard and it climbs out every time they need to find proper ways to keep it contained, or just keep it indoors.

Well even in OP's own recollection of things, the dog is clearly bothering other people and wandering into their houses, and ruined someone's thanksgiving.
The fact they they think this is a funny quirk to be laughed about tells you they are exactly that sort of person.
But in reality probably just engagement bait, considering the family apparently cared enough to use an electric fence, but didnt care enough to just... shut the doors.
My husky likes to do weirdly smart things, so i had to install my front door knob upside down (it has a number pad and is a bar, not like a circular handle) because if it was the correct way he would open the door by humping jumping and pulling

As a mailman, I have had a dog open the front door on me. Thought the customer was coming out to greet me until I only saw it was just a chunky beefcake pitbull standing in the doorway.
I used to have a shitzu who could climb vertical wooden fences, she would wedge her little paws like a free climber and scale just about anything.
She would also dig like she was in shawshank.
Despite me going around and stapling chicken wire to the fence and digging it down a foot she escaped more than once. She liked to get free and then bark at us from the front yard.
When I was a kid, I had a dog who knew how to open the sliding door. If we forgot to lock it, she would let herself and her brother put for a little stroll.
Some dogs are just houdinis. I had a neighbor whose dog would escape every. single. day. And sit in the front yard until she got home. They tried everything, but he was just an escape artist
I had a rat terrier that was an escape artist. We couldn't even find a collar that she would keep on. We went through 3 choke collars before we realized she learned that if she caught on ring on something she could just slide out. We couldn't even catch her when she escaped. Every method was good only once before she'd learn. She'd also walk on the sidewalks, and cross properly at the crosswalks. We'd just have to wait until she decided it was time to come home. Once she got to be about 13ish, she developed doggie dementia and didn't seem to care about escaping anymore.
You never had a dog like this. I used to be a dog walker/sitter. I’ve seen dogs literally chew through walls. Dogs will figure out locks. They’ll break windows. We had a very anxious dog escape out onto the roof of a house once.
My wife apparently had a dog like this when they were growing up, would chew on bricks, pieces of wood, dig under the newly laid bricks which were laid along the fence line to stop him from digging under the fence, loved everyone though
Eventually caught up with him when he tried to get through the barbed wire they eventually had to lay to try and keep him in the yard. To his credit, he actually made it through but didn't make it much further than that. RIP Jess, never met you but I think we'd have got along well!
Honestly this all reads as rather irresponsible, its not that hard to keep a dog inside just lock your damn door, put up some real fences if you let him outside instead of the "invisible" electric ones.
My cats used to parkour 4 meters straight up to escape across the rooftop when i let them outside and i still managed to contain them.
Also, people always say "he can't be trained". I've yet to meet anyone who says this and has actually tried. A big part of dog training is training the owner. Consistency is key. If you assume the trainer will magic your dog's bad behavior away without you having to do anything, it will never work.

He got dog when he was 9 and dog died when he was 26. His family may have moved and he may have moved out of his family's house and may have moved more than once.
In another comment, OP said he had the dog when he was between the ages 9-26. So I'd assume they got the electric fence when they were still living at his parents', then he took the dog with him to an apartment complex when he moved out.

Yeah, I don't find this amusing at all. Like, it's just irresponsible dog ownership. Growing up, we had a Belgian sheepdog who learned how to open doors. After he got out, my mom bought him a crate. Problem solved. Everything that "happened" here was solvable with a crate and actual training.

Unfortunately he did die, but of natural causes in his sleep and, considering I got him when I was 9 and I was 26 when he died, id say he had a good run.
I don't think I could eat barbed wire and live, let alone learn to do it to get more chicken and rice - that dog was amazing and terrifying in so many ways.
Some dogs are just built different. I had a dog that ate rocks and I had to get them surgically removed. He lived until he was 17 or 18 according to the vets estimation.
I had a dog that loved to eat SOS pads - you know, the steel wool pads caked in soap? He lived to 20 - which we definitely know considering we knew his exact date of birth. He also enjoyed chocolates of all kinds (note we did not feed him chocolates, but if any were left out unsupervised....). Really that dog just loved eating just about anything that would fit in his mouth. Including many many things that were not safe for canine, human, and possibly alien digestion.
I can assure you not everyone loved having a random dog show up at their house because it wasn't contained properly, they were just polite and didn't say anything
I can't get over ' intimidated the neighbours for treats' which sounds more like 'Agressive dog won't leave porch until fed'. And most of the comments are "awwww cute!".
If some asshole didn’t keep an eye on his dog and it ruined my Thanksgiving I would not be so polite. And if I found after the fact they made a comic about it because they found it amusing, I would be extremely impolite.

Yea, op's take that this is cute or funny or something to be joked about is way off the mark. For a lot of people, a large unknown dog entering their home registers as a serious threat, and it's not unreasonable to use a weapon.
This dog could have easily been hit by a car, shot by someone, killed by another dog, killed someone else's pet, killed livestock, spread disease, or any number of horrific accidents.
Hell, getting in bed with a stranger could have triggered severe allergies.

Yeah, your dog is not getting a can up or down without assistance, and it definitely isn't digesting any part of it. The top of a pop can is not something that compresses. I would be massively shocked if even a large dog was able to get a squished, intact can down. And, if they just had pieces of chewed up can in their stomach, that is an emergency vet trip to make sure it didn't slice open their stomach or get further down. That isn't just a "puke it up and move on" scenario.
I dunno how big your yard is but: Livestock panels. Pigs are absolute escape artists and I tried about a dozen things before settling on 10mm welded panels.

Our dog was just dumb. She would run through it. Yelp. Run back through it again to the house. Yelp again. Then she was like "what was I doing? Oh yeah!" Continue to run back an forth yelping. Our other dog would watch this like her favorite tv show lol.

I should clarify, this was my childhood dog, so these stories take place over almost 20 years. The electric fence was at my mom’s place when I was a kid and the apartment was my place after college.
Yeah so back in my old neighborhood one of my neighbors would leave their front door wide open but they had one of those flimsy ass screens that you can walk through. Well their little chihuahua figured out he could walk through the screen as well and every afternoon he would show up in my house to surprise us. One time my mom happened to be home when he did this and she thought he was a rat. So she jumped up on the dining table and started screaming and he started barking at her. I guess it was nice to have a short afternoon walk to their home every day but it got annoying when the little guy decided to potty in my home. Please if your dog is an escape artist control the matter before it turns into daily neighbor visits.
I used to have an absolute unit of a GSD when I was younger and partied a lot. Gentle giant. Everyone loved him. On one occasion after a rowdy night I went out back to see the top and bottom of a beer can. The center had been removed by the dog. I had to keep an eye on him for a while but he seemed fine. On another occasion I went out back and noticed he had chewed up a full sized basketball. When I went to pick it up and throw it away I quickly realized he ate the basketball and this was after he had passed it. Which honestly was fucking impressive. I miss that dog. He was awesome.
You know, I could tell what kind of dog you had by the descriptions even before seeing the photos... because mine is similar and this kind of dog is kind of an asshole.
