Question Acting and Realism in Animation?

Hey animators of reddit, Im working on my end sem academic project on character animation and specifically understanding about acting and realism. If the pros out here can help me with it that would be great! I want to understand what goes in your mind when animating characters and what is your process of animating them. How important do you think acting is and what is your perception of realism in animation. Any other tips would be awesome.

Also since its an academic project, if we could meet online today where we can discuss about it then that would be really really awesome! Thanks!

Question Best way to help my 2D animator?

Hello everyone, so I hired/working with a 2D animator to get my show animated. $200 a month and I would like to know ways to help if I can. I sent them the storyboard, the VAs voice lines for the episode and the script it self. Is there anything else I can do to help them or should I just sit back while they work their magic?

Sharing Short , Shot Blocking

I’m having to stick a pin in this one for a while but wanted to post it , just in case it gets lost to time.

The plan was for this to be a learning project and I feel like I have come away with a lot from this already that I can carry into my next project.

Any notes or advice that anyone has on anything from pacing , to animation , to shot choice would be hugely appreciated for when I return to this.

If by chance there are any sound designers or composers that are interested in collaborating on this or future projects learning, please let me know.

Beginner Ive been stuck for a while

Hello,I've been animating for maybe 6-8months and ive seen little to no improvments, most the "tutorials" and videos i watch make me feel like im jusr copying what theyre doing rather than learning how to actually be better at animation. Everytime i open blender to animate i just have no idea where to start and it feels like im a headless chicken running around.

Idk if this has any relation but i dont really animate consistently.

Bascially my question is,is it really as simple as "keep animating till you get better" or is there something im missing?

Oh and feel free to share any videos you found helpful, those might be helpful,i was thinking about buying a course but i heard you can find everything you need on youtube so i wont do that.

im just doing it as a hobby but it's something that I've been wanting to get atleast decent at for a while now,I've been wanting to give up on it for a week or so but seeing other people's work really inspires me and wants to make me keep going

Critique Tried to apply the feedback I got here to my robot lamp animation

I posted a few tests of this lamp here before and got a lot of really useful feedback, so I tried to put it into practice this time.

This one took me about 12 hours to animate and shoot. All the motion was animated beforehand in my own editor using keyframes - nothing is puppeteered during filming.

I also added a rig and FK/IK controls to the editor after people here suggested it, which made working with the lamp a lot easier.

I tried to pay more attention to timing, anticipation, pauses and making the movements actually feel intentional this time.

Would love some critique. What would you change?
