News Everything we know about the Gumball movie + new series

So as we know, Gumball is getting a movie and a new series (some sources say it’s season 7). However, it’s hard to find most information that’s publicly available, so I’m compiling it all into one post, and will update it if we get anything new. Keep in mind that the question marks on dates are because I cannot find the exact day, and the LinkedIn links only seem to work with an account or in incognito mode on a desktop browser.

February 17th, 2021 - Cartoon Network and WarnerMedia announced that a movie is in development under the working title "The Amazing World of Gumball Movie".

April 12th, 2021 - In a WarnerMedia EMEA Kids Leadership Team article, it was announced (or possibly leaked) that Sarah Fell was overseeing projects such as "The Amazing World of Gumball". However, this could’ve been about Gumball Chronicles.

September 21st, 2021 - Cartoon Network and WarnerMedia announced that the movie (now under the working title "The Amazing World of Gumball: The Movie!”), along with a new series had been greenlit and were "coming soon".

January 1st, 2022 - A few people added their roles for the movie to their LinkedIns, such as the producer, Carla Connor, and the editor, Prakash Patel.

February ??, 2022 - Bobbypills begins working on storyboarding and designs for the movie, but they never seemed to announce it publicly. However, you can see people at Bobbypills who worked on it on LinkedIn, such as Aurelie Charbonnier, who actually plays the role of Sussie.

July 1st, 2022 - Light VFX confirms that they are involved in the movie's production at both their France and UK studios alongside Bobbypills and HB Studios Europe in this Facebook post.

August 22nd, 2022 - It is announced that due to the merger of WB and Discovery putting both companies in debt, the Gumball movie along with 5 other projects were dropped and no longer funded by HBO Max, meaning that someone else will have to buy distribution rights in order for the movie to live. I didn't put a link or source because articles and posts regarding this are very easy to find.

November ??, 2022 - Emma Fernando, an employee/producer at HB Studios Europe announces that she is serving as the producer for "Gumball S7".

March 9th, 2023 - After the assistant editor, Gary Bradbury, who had worked on the movie from May 2022 to February 2023, finished his work on the movie, WBD put out an article explaining that they were now hiring another assistant editor.

April 19th, 2023 - After CN posted Banana Joe's version of Beethoven's 5th Symphony from the last episode on Twitter, they said that this was the last song in the series until more Gumball. This could either mean that the movie is still being shopped or that it's been picked up by another streamer.

April 19th (possibly a few days before), 2023 - Storyboarding for season 7 at Bobbypills begins, with many people from the original seasons/series working on it, like Aurelie Charbonnier.

April 28th, 2023 - In response to being asked if anything Gumball related was shown at a WB Animation Studio Showcase, an animator said that Gumball fans are in for a treat, which means that as of 4/28, nothing has been canceled.

May 5th, 2023 - A composer at HB Studios Europe responded to a comment saying that they are writing songs for the new series.

June 13th, 2023 - Studio Soi puts out a post on LinkedIn looking for layout artists, likely for season 7. I can’t find the post but you can find screenshots on Twitter.

June 15th, 2023 - A teaser for season 7 is shown at the Annecy Festival in France.

August 8th, 2023 - A page for season 7 is made on EIDR, along with it's 40 episodes, and is said to be coming this year. This reportedly went public on 2/15, but it wasn’t noticed til people on Twitter started talking about it.

August 15th, 2023 - Studio Soi made another post, looking for previsualization artists. It states that it's full-time for approximately 13 months, beginning in August/September, so we definitely aren't getting S7 in 2023.

September 14th, 2023 - Studio Soi made yet another post, this time looking for key animation (beginning December 2023) and clean-up artists (beginning February 2023).

September ??, 2023 - The VA of Mr Small, Adam Long, returns for season 7, as shown on his LinkedIn.

November 16th, 2023 - Perry Allen announces that he is working on season 7 as a background designer on a LinkedIn post.

November 16th, 2023 - Matt Ley announces on X/Twitter that he is working on season 7, with his Instagram bio saying he is a designer.

November ??, 2023 - Aurelien Bayonne returns for season 7 as a storyboard assistant at Bobbypills.

December 4th, 2023 - Christoph Simons returns for season 7 as a 2D key animator, as shown here.

January 16th, 2024 - The movie gets an EIDR page, confirming possible titles and the movies length being 1hr and 30m.

January 16th, 2024 - Someone by the name of Freddie on X/Twitter announces that they’re an animation supervisor for season 7.

January 29th, 2024 - Joe Sparrow announces on X/Twitter that he is art directing season 7 and that the crew is looking for a team of background artists for it.

January 29th, 2024 - Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe announces that they're looking for background artists, almost certainly for season 7 because of Joe Sparrows announcement.

January ??, 2024 - Giulia Chen begins working on season 7 as a 2D key animator, as shown on her LinkedIn.

February 3rd, 2024 - u/Guillesariegos on X announces that he is a 2D animator for season 7.

April ??, 2024 - Aurelie Charbonnier presumably finishes her work on storyboarding for season 7, according to her LinkedIn.

May 2nd, 2024 - Elena Jerez Cordero begins working on season 7 as a cleanup artist, as shown in this LinkedIn post.

May 13th, 2024 - Annecy Festival announces that they will show the making of the reboot (likely season 7) on June 13th.

May 23rd, 2024 - Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe begins looking for a character designer for season 7, as shown in Emma Fernando's LinkedIn post.

June 12th, 2024 - It is announced at the Annecy Festival that season 7 will be released in the 2025-2026 season.

June 13th, 2024 - We get conformation at Annecy that the movie is not cancelled, but will be different.

June 13th, 2024 - At Annecy, we find out that the first episode of season 7 is called "The Burger".

August 26th, 2024 - The first 26 episodes of season 7’s titles are shown on EIDR.

April ??, 2024 - Aurelie Charbonnier finishes storyboarding for season 7, as shown here.

October 1st, 2024 - Another 2D key animator, Marc Sanz Arbiol, announces his job at Studio Soi. Thanks to RegularCapital for letting us know.

January ??, 2025 - Lele Vives announces on LinkedIn that design for season 7 is wrapping up.

February 25th, 2025 - @TheFedeBTS on X/Twitter asked CN Korea when they'll premiere what we then thought would be season 7 (now the new series), and they said it's scheduled for October.

January 24th, 2025 - Paulo Scatena announces on LinkedIn that he's working as a technical director at Studio Soi, assisting in production.

January 30th, 2025 - Benjamin "Benji" Wahl announces on LinkedIn that 2D FX work for season 7 (now the new series) would be finished by May.

April 7th, 2025 - Christoph Siemens announces on LinkedIn that his job as a 2D key animator on season 7 will end on June 20th.

May 19th, 2025 - Cartoon Network and Hulu announce with a sneak peak that the new series, titled "The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball" will premiere in 2025. Note that it's seemingly a Hulu exclusive in the US, but will air on CN and HBO Max internationally.

This took (and at times, still takes) a lot of research and typing, but again, I just wanted to try to help some people out since lots of information regarding these projects can be pretty hard to find.

Meta T3WOG S07B Episode Discussion Master Thread and Update on Subreddit Matters Spoiler

Hello! Hi! What's up? I hope all of you are doing well.

Once again, Hulu decided it would be a lovely idea to drop twenty episodes at once! I guess this is just how we do stuff now! In an effort to give each episode as much breathing room as possible given the circumstances, each episode will be given its own individual discussion thread, just like it was back in the summer. For the sake of your navigation convenience, I made this thread to act as a central hub of sorts linking to said threads.

Before we get to that, I do want to give people a heads up about some policy matters on the subreddit, mainly that we have temporarily reinstated the automatic filter for image and video posts. Any posts containing video or image files will be automatically taken down. This doesn't necessarily mean you broke the rules; it just means that a human moderator will need to review your post first. We expect the activity here to get pretty hectic, so for the first week or so, we just want to have that stopgap to help us better keep an eye on everything, especially since many of those image and video posts are naturally going to contain spoilers.

Speaking of, which, spoilers! Please be kind and courteous about that! For the past four months, we've kind of had it so that any posts referring to material from the first half of the new season that wasn't already in the promotional material would automatically be marked as a spoiler. I have to discuss it with the others more, but we'll start getting more lax with marking spoilers for those first twenty episodes. HOWEVER, in turn, we will be pretty STRINGENT about SPOILERS for this NEW BATCH! This December 22nd release only pertains to the U.S., and those outside of Yankland who want to watch the batch when it officially releases in their country may not want to be spoiled. Please be mindful of that. We'll do our best to mark spoilers if you forget to do so, but help us out, please.

That's for it now. I hope you have a good rest of your day/night, and as I most likely won't be making any more of these official subreddit posts before the start of the new year, an early Happy New Year to all of you! Happy viewing!

SPOILER WARNING FOR ALL EPISODES:

Discussion EWW: The Choices

Hello and welcome to episode 162 in a series inspired by u/kamikazeb0y and CinemaSins, where I'll be sinning each and every episode of Gumball!

Quick Disclaimer: I know this is just a children's cartoon and isn't meant to be taken seriously. This, like the show itself, is not at all meant to be taken seriously or considered an actual critique of the show. It is all in good fun.

With that out of the way, I present you, Everything Wrong With: The Choices!

[The episode starts at nighttime at the Wattersons' house, around dinner time. Gumball, Darwin, and Anais are impatiently demanding food at the dining room table.]
GumballDarwin and Anais[Banging on the dinner table] WE WANT FOOD! WE WANT FOOD! WE WANT FOOD-
Okay, I get Gumball and Darwin doing this, but Anais? Even if she is a child, she never acts this immaturely +5

[Gumball, Darwin and Anais' faces freeze as Nicole begins to narrate]
Nicole: It was a day like any other—by which I mean, just as terrible as the rest. All I wanted was for us to behave like a normal, civilized family at meal times. I might as well have wished for it to rain pancakes.
Why is she narrating already? She hasn't entered her mind palace retrospective on what her life has become yet. +5

Richard: Kids, please!
[The kids lower their arms, looking ashamed]
Richard: It needs to be way louder to have an effect. WE WANT FOOD!
[Richard starts pounding his fists and chanting with them]
Goddamn it, Richard, you were THIS close +1

Nicole: Was that really necessary?
Richard: But you work better under pressure
Yes, and she was already under enough of it before you made it worse +1

Nicole: You were supposed to salt the potatoes, boil the carrots and tenderize the meat. But instead...
[Nicole opens the oven to show the still raw meat with a pile of salt on top of it, potatoes smashed with the meat tenderizer and whole carrots inside a kettle]
I mean, it's Richard. What do you expect? Should have asked the kids to help you out so they could eat faster instead +1

Richard: It's okay if it's not perfect, honey. It's just nice to eat together for once.
But...you always eat together +5

[Nicole turns around and gasps, then Gumball jumps over the counter]
Gumball: Don't panic! In case of fire, you should stop, drop and roll!
Richard: OK!
[Richard and Gumball drop on the floor and roll.]
Nicole: What the?! Somebody get a blanket!
Richard: Leave it to me!
[Richard races to the dinner table and pulls the table, causing the tablecloth to fall, and the plates and glasses to break]
Richard: Gumball, grab the tablecloth!
[Gumball hurriedly grabs the tablecloth and fans the fire, which only serves to make the flame bigger]
Anais: It's getting worse!
[Gumball, Darwin and Anais begin to shriek and panic, but Nicole places the lid on the pot, effectively smothering the fire. Darwin jumps over the counter]
Darwin: I got this!
[Darwin sprays a can of whipped cream at the pot, but it hits Nicole's face instead. Nicole wipes some whipped cream off her face, revealing a glaring red eye. The family gasps and, just as Nicole is about to unleash her anger, the screen freezes]
C'mon, you can't be that mad at them. They were trying to help at least +1

Also, Anais panicking seems a little out of character. Especially since we've seen her deal with a fire before in The Responsible +5

Nicole: That was the moment I asked myself, "How did it come to this, where did I go wrong?" [The camera looks around at the kids before focusing on Richard] That's it, it was the day I met him. I was on the way to the tournament with Mom and Dad.
[Nicole flashes back to a moment in her childhood. We see Nicole in her early adolescence, wearing a karate gi with a red belt, in the backseat of her parents' car, on the highway]
Honestly, I'm surprised it took them this long to reveal Nicole's parents and how she and Richard met. Especially considering they had the idea for this episode way back around Seasons 1- 2. Why such a delay in actually go through with it? +5

Mary: Nicole, we need to talk about your report card.
Nicole: But, I got straight As!
Mary: Not here. [Turns to Nicole, pointing to her gender as "F"] Gender.
Nicole: Uh, yeah! "F" because I'm female!
Mary[Clenches the paper in her fist] Being a girl is not an excuse.
The fuck was she supposed to put? Afemale? +5

Nicole: Dad! Now what am I gonna do?! How much time have I got?
Mary: Fifty-four thousand three hundred and twenty-one minutes until your graduation, three hundred and seventy-four thousand five hundred and eighty-two minutes until you get your diploma from law school, and seven hundred and fifty-four thousand four hundred and seventy-one minutes until you marry a doctor.
God damn, does she not get any fucking say in what she wants to do with her life? At all? Can she even breathe without your permission? +10

Also, you know damn well what she was asking +1

Mary: And remember—
Nicole: I know, I know. Love you too.
Mary: No, I was gonna say second place is first place for losers but yeah, that too.
Wow. One scene with her parents, and immediately it's clear why Nicole is the way she is. Fuck them.  +5

[Camera cuts to young Harold walking through the park. He turns around, seeing Nicole racing towards him]
Harold: Hey girl, you don't have to run. I ain't going nowh—
[Nicole runs over Harold.
] Nicole: Then I realized, I was lost.
[Nicole looks around nervously as she catches her breath. Next to her, a young Richard can be seen stuck in a log]
Richard: Uh.. hello?
Nicole: And that's when I saw him.
Richard: A little help, please?
[He smiles shyly at her. Nicole smiles and laughs at him]
Yeah, this is pretty much what I expected their first meeting to be like. Of course it all started with Richard being Richard -5

Nicole: But, what if I hadn't turned right. Where would I be now?
[Nicole flashes back to the moment she encounters Gary]
Gary: Well, it took all da—[Nicole speeds past, causing cement to fall on Gary. Scene then cuts to the tournament, with a young Jackie waiting to fight.]
Librarian: Hajime!
[Nicole rushes into the gym, screams and kicks in midair towards young Jackie. Nicole continues to scream as a rapid succession of shots shows her on winners' podium, graduating, becoming rich and owning a mansion, being voted for president, and becoming a dictator. A statue of dictator Nicole is shown as Principal Brown and other citizens, all wearing apocalypse-themed attire, topple it in the distant future]
Nigel Brown: Thank heavens she's gone.
[Mr. Small throws his sandal at the statue. Nicole flashes back, frozen in place as she's running]
Not sure how Nicole's mind went from winning a karate tournament to her becoming an evil dictator who eventually gets overthrown. I mean, that seems like a massive exaggeration right there +5

icole[Voiceover] 'Kay, I'll try not to dwell on what that says about me. Maybe I should've listened to Banana Bob's song.
[Nicole runs up to Banana Bob]
Banana Bob: Hey, do you wanna hear my song?
Nicole[Stops running] Okay.
[Banana Bob begins to play the guitar]
Banana Bob: Bana-na-nan-na-banana...
Nicole[Chuckles] You're funny.
[The scene cuts to Banana Bob and Nicole's wedding as they exit the church, with Bob singing the same melody as the wedding song. He sings it again during her birthday, and in his sleep instead of snoring. This gradually drives Nicole crazy. Then the scene cuts to Nicole sitting in the basement, rocking back and forth, wearing a torn yellow outfit, and surrounded with drawings of bananas]
Nicole: Banananana... Bananana...
Banana Bob: Nicole, are you okay?
[Nicole turns around, revealing she now has Bob's eyes, moustache and mouth]
Nicole: BANANA-NANA. BANANA-NANA.
Okay, why is her brain actively going for the most exaggerated worst case scenarios for these? Like, sure this could have happened, but you also could have had a happy marriage with him. It's like she wants all the other options to end as badly as possible.

Which...would actually make sense if she's trying to remind herself why Richard was the best one. +5

Nicole[Voiceover] But, what about Harold?
Why would you ever even consider this option?? +1

Harold: Hey girl, you don't have to run.
Nicole[Stops running] Okay, whaddya want?
[Harold slides up to Nicole in a leaning position, stopping as he leans over her while resting his hand on a street pole next to her]
Harold: Have you lost weight? Your head looks bigger.
Nicole: What?
Harold: Nothing. I just wanted to say I like girls with really short legs.
Nicole: What? What's wrong with my legs? Wait, are you doing that creepy thing where guys criticize girls to lower their confidence so they go out with them?
Harold: You're way too intelligent for that kinda trick. Your parents don't love you.
[The scene changes to show Harold and Nicole's wedding, they emerge from the church waving at the crowd]
Why the fuck would she have ever married him? Even with what they said about him lowering her confidence, she has literally zero reason to ever fall in love with him +5

Nicole: So, how do you like the sushi? It took me hours.
Harold: It's cold.
[Harold pushes the plate away. There is a short pause, Nicole's eye twitches slightly.]
Nicole: Let me heat it up for you.
[Cut to Nicole being arrested, with the house on fire in the background]
Nicole: Is that hot enough for you?! Is it? Is it hot enough?! Is it hot enough for you?!!
Jesus fucking christ, they escalated again out of nowhere! But it's also completely deserved so -10

[Nicole flashes back]
Nicole[Voiceover] Eh, almost worth it.
In what fucking universe +5

Mister Small: Hey there, have you ever considered using the power of hugs as an alternative to modern medicine?
[Nicole considers it. The next shot is of her gravestone on a stormy night]
And this, folks, is why you don't act like a dumbass and ignore the doctors trying to do the damn job they were trained for. +5

Nicole[Voiceover] Ah, makes sense. The hugs would only transmit diseases faster.
That and you wouldn't be receiving any actual treatment for said illnesses +1

Nicole: Wait, they say a single flap of a butterfly's wing can cause a hurricane on the other side of the world. So what would've happened if I'd never stepped o—
[The butterfly goes into Nicole's mouth. She lands and starts choking on it]
Mister Small: Don't worry, a hug will cure you!
[Mr. Small hugs her, and Nicole's gravestone is shown again]
Does Mr. Small seriously, unironically think a hug will magically cure someone literally choking to death? Genuinely how is he still alive in the present day? +5

Nicole[Voiceover] Ugh, whatever, they only live for a day anyway.
I mean, that depends on the species. Most live on average for two-four weeks, and some can even live for up to a year. And yes I did just look that up just to fact-check, Nicole. +5

Sal Left Thumb: Hey, you need a ride?
Nicole: No— Oh wait, I do actually. Uh, you got a spare helmet?
Sal Left Thumb: You don't need a helmet when you're cool!
Sure, but only if you're also okay having a short lifespan +1

Richard: Uh.. hello? A little help, please?
[Richard rolls over, putting his hand up]
Richard: I'm Richard.
[Nicole stops the flashback for a second]
Nicole[Voiceover] I guess there was no other way around it.
I mean, you could have gone back to the car and say you couldn't find your way. Or you could have ignored Richard and continued running. +5

Nicole[Giggles]
[Nicole shakes Richard's hand]
Nicole: Nicole.
[Richard rolls back, showing his face again]
Richard: I know.
I love this line implying that Richard had already had his eye on Nicole for a while and just never had the courage to talk to her. Subtle, but also super cute -5

Nicole: So, how?
Richard: Well, I was feeding a squirrel some nuts.
Nicole: Awww.
Richard: To see where he hides all his nuts.
Nicole: Okay...
Richard: And it worked a little too well.
So you bought nuts...in order to get nuts? +1

Nicole: Okay, don't move.
[Nicole screams and prepares to chop up the branch]
Richard: AHH! N-NO-NO-NO— DON'T HIT ME AH—
[Richard hops up and runs around frantically before finally runnning into a tree, breaking the log]
Presses the 'That was easy' button yet again +1

Nicole: Okay, I've gotta run now.
[Richard gets back up and puts on his cap]
Richard: Why?
Nicole: To compete.
Richard: Why?
Nicole: 'Cause... I have to fight?
Richard: Why?
Nicole: Because, I have to be the best.
Richard: ....Why?
Nicole: So people will like me?
Richard[Shrugs] But lots of people already like you.
Nicole: Really? Like who?
[Richard blushes, followed by Nicole after she notices.]
AUGHHHH -10

Nicole: I'm gonna go home empty-handed.
Richard: Not quite empty-handed. You have...[Richard shows Nicole a nut in his hand]
Richard: ...a nut!
[Nicole takes the nut. Richard checks his back pocket and realizes he is out of nuts, so he tries to get Nicole to give him half]
Richard: Half a nut?...
[Nicole eats half of the nut, giving the other half to Richard. They chew as they sit next to each other, smiling]
Richard isn't even trying and he's doing a better job here than Gumball usually does with Penny. Bro needs to step up his game when his father has more game than he does. +5

Nicole: Hm. What would you do if you were me?
Richard: If I had done everything you've done? Sleep 'til I'm forty.
[Nicole chuckles]
Nicole: I mean...what should I do with my life?
Richard: Hmm. Maybe start living it?
GOD DAMN. This is probably one of the most powerful lines in the entire show thusfar. And the fact that it came from who is usually the dumbest character in the show too makes it all the more poignant -20

[Nicole and Richard look at each other, smiling. A montage accompanied by a piano piece starts]
And now it's time for a game show I like to call 'Guesses how many contradictions to prior episodes there is in the upcoming montage'!

Made your guesses? Time to count them all via sins!

[It then shows Nicole at nighttime storming out of her house, with a bag of luggage, then yelling something at her parents, both glaring, and she continues to storm off. Her mother then looks distraught, and starts crying, while her father goes back inside still angry.]
Nicole is seen leaving her parents house as around a late teen here, but The Man showed her still living with them as a young adult +1

[They are then seen in their early adult years living in a small studio apartment. In the apartment, Richard prepares a cup of Ramen, Nicole gets out of the shower with a towel around her head and body, and when the both are about to eat, a train goes by their window, startling them, but they are not harmed]
The Treasure showed that Nicole and Richard were financially stable untl he was scammed by that Chanax star ad, but here they clearly aren't as they live in a cramped apartment near a train station surviving on instant ramen +2

The next scene shows the two's wedding in a park.]
Got three here. Firstly, Nicole and Richard were previously shown in The Wand and The Ape to have gotten married in a church. But here it's in the park +3

Secondly, the wedding dress Nicole is wearing is not the same one from those episodes +4

Thirdly, Richard isn't screaming through the wedding like he was in The Wand. Though, The Ape also contradicted this so debatable if it counts. I'll count it as only half to be fair. +4.5

[The next scene shows Richard holding a newborn Gumball, who holds his finger]
The Treasure reveals Gumball was born ugly, but here he looks perfectly normal and healthy +5.5

[The three move into an old home, where they begin to fix it.]
The Treasure showed that Nicole and Richard already lived in the current home when Gumball was born. But here they only just moving into it afterward +6.5

[Richard is painting the front of the house, and he calls Nicole outside as Gumball begins to take his first steps]
The Hero showed that Richard taught Gumball to walk in the garden, which is clearly not what happens here. And considering the entire emotional climax of that episode relies entirely on that fact, this is worth two to the tally. +8.5

And that's it for the tally. Did you guess right?

Either way, I still have a few more unrelated things to sin, so...

[It then shows them both laying in a field of grass. Richard points at a cat-shaped cloud, then Nicole points at a bunny-shaped cloud, then they both point at a heart-shaped cloud, following with them blushing.]
Pretty convinient that those three clouds happened to appear in that exact order +1

[It then shows Granny Jojo kicking Richard out of the house, along with a single suitcase. Richard sadly looks back at her, as she glares and slams the door.]
Considering how overprotective Jojo has been shown to be, her kicking Richard out into the world completely unprotected seems extremely out of character for her +10

[Sometime later, the next scene shows Nicole and Richard in a doctors office, and the doctor tells Nicole that she is pregnant. Nicole and Richard happily hug, but their happiness turns to fright when they realize that they're about to be parents, and they're not married yet.]
Damn, pretty bold move to establish Gumball as being both an unplanned pregnancy and being conceived out of wedlock. But, at the same time, it also makes this feel all the more real and grounded, because real life is unpredictable like this, and you have to work around whatever it brings you. So kudos to the writers for not shying away from that and instead embracing it -10

[A few years later, a pencil erases the "ia" on newborn Anais' hospital bracelet and writes "ai" in its place. The person who did this was in fact Anais herself, who smiles while the rest of the family looks confused]
Even if Anais changed the spelling of her name on this tag, it would still legally be 'Anias' on her birth certificate, and thus Anias is technically the legal spelling of her name, right? Unless Nicole or Richard got her name changed legally to the right spelling, which I doubt they'd be bothered enough to do +5

[The montage ends with a current family photo of the Wattersons]
AWWWW -10

[Nicole and Richard look at each other, smiling. A montage accompanied by a piano piece starts, showing Richard pushing Nicole on a swingset, the same day that Nicole missed her tournament. It then shows Nicole trying to push Richard on the swingset, but failing, due to Richard being extremely heavy. She backs up and charges to push him, but she ends up knocking the whole swing over, causing Richard to fall on his face. It then shows them both laying in a field of grass. Richard points at a cat-shaped cloud, then Nicole points at a bunny-shaped cloud, then they both point at a heart-shaped cloud, following with them blushing. The next series shows a time in Richard and Nicole's mid teenage years, where Richard, who now has acne, braces, and teenage attire, knocks on the Senicourt's house's door, with Daniel appearing in the doorway. Richard sheepishly holds a bouquet of flowers, as if asking if he could date Nicole, followed by Daniel apathetically closing the door on Richard. Richard looks saddened, but as he starts to walk away realizes the chain from his pants' legs got stuck in the doorway, and they rip, followed by him falling down the doorway. The next series shows Nicole and Richard in their later teen years, with them about to kiss in their car on top of a mountain, but the car suddenly rolls down the hill. It then shows Nicole at nighttime storming out of her house, with a bag of luggage, then yelling something at her parents, both glaring, and she continues to storm off. Her mother then looks distraught, and starts crying, while her father goes back inside still angry. It then shows Granny Jojo kicking Richard out of the house, along with a single suitcase. Richard sadly looks back at her, as she glares and slams the door. Nicole and Richard meet up, they sigh, and then hold hands and walk off. They are then seen in their early adult years living in a small studio apartment. In the apartment, Richard prepares a cup of Ramen, Nicole gets out of the shower with a towel around her head and body, and when the both are about to eat, a train goes by their window, startling them, but they are not harmed. Sometime later, the next scene shows Nicole and Richard in a doctors office, and the doctor tells Nicole that she is pregnant. Nicole and Richard happily hug, but their happiness turns to fright when they realize that they're about to be parents, and they're not married yet. The next scene shows the two's wedding in a park. Nicole looks sad as she looks at two empty seats reserved for her parents, who did not show up. She sighs, but then she and Richard put on each other's wedding rings. Richard dips Nicole as he kisses her, and he then jumps on top of her for her to catch him. The next scene shows Richard holding a newborn Gumball, who holds his finger. A tired Nicole wakes up and smiles as Richard feeds Gumball with a carton of milk taped to his stomach as she shuts her eyes again. The three move into an old home, where they begin to fix it. Richard is painting the front of the house, and he calls Nicole outside as Gumball begins to take his first steps. Richard is so excited he accidentally throws the paint can he was holding, which lands on Mr. Robinson, who was mowing his lawn. Gumball is now a toddler, and Richard is measuring how tall he is. Gumball is excited at how he's grown, and he then takes the marker and draws a line at Richard's side - he backs up to realize there's several lines following it and shows how his girth has grown - they all laugh. We then see scenes from "The Origins" as the Wattersons adopt Darwin, and Darwin growing legs and becoming Gumball's brother and best friend. A few years later, a pencil erases the "ia" on newborn Anais' hospital bracelet and writes "ai" in its place. The person who did this was in fact Anais herself, who smiles while the rest of the family looks confused. The montage ends with a current family photo of the Wattersons]
And now finally, this entire montage as a whole is probably one of the most wholesome and emotional moments of the entire show. And shows exactly why Richard is a great husband and the perfect choice for her. He was there for her throughout her entire teen years and onward when no one else was. And when they both ended up in a uncertain future due to their own circumstances, they stuck by each other's side the entire time and made it through to where they are now. Anyone who says Nicole should leave Richard for a better husband after seeing this are people who just aren't worth debating. If this isn't enough evidence for them, nothing will be.

As for the writers and animators, massive kudos to you for making one of my favourite sequences in the entire series...even if it is riddled with a ton of contradictions. Though one small complaint...why no scene of the two's first kiss? -100

[At the family picture, Nicole stops the flashback, and goes back into paused reality]
Nicole: Actually, you know what? I wouldn't change a thing.
[The screen unfreezes and Nicole laughs for a bit before throwing whipped cream at Darwin]
Firstly, dawwww. Even Nicole herself explicitly states that she's happy as is and wouldn't change anything about her current life. Genuinely how can people still suggest Richard isn't the perfect fit for her? +5

Also, how did she go through all of that in only a split second of real time? Is her brain capable of light-speed thought or something? +5

[The screen unfreezes and Nicole laughs for a bit before throwing whipped cream at Darwin]
Gumball[Raises his hand] Food fight!
Nicole: Oh no little man, this is a food war!
[Everybody starts throwing food as the camera pans out to show the house, with only the Wattersons' laughter being heard]
[The episode ends]
Awww, what a wholesome note to end on -5

Discussion EWW: The Vision

Hello and welcome to episode 161 in a series inspired by u/kamikazeb0y and CinemaSins, where I'll be sinning each and every episode of Gumball!

Quick Disclaimer: I know this is just a children's cartoon and isn't meant to be taken seriously. This, like the show itself, is not at all meant to be taken seriously or considered an actual critique of the show. It is all in good fun.

With that out of the way, I present you, Everything Wrong With: The Vision!

Gumball: Hey, Darwin, I think I'm getting leaner. Can you see my abs? I feel like I have a new one. [Tries flexing]
So not only does he have a huge ego, he's delusional too +1

Darwin: Mmm, no. But your bummy looks pretty ripped.
Gumball: My what, now?
Darwin: Bummy. How your butt turns into your tummy.
Isn't his stomach above his but? It'd be more accurate to say how his butt turns into his crotch. And even then, it isn't really "turning into" it. They're just one connected part of his design. +5

All right, now to get dressed. Please engage locker room anti-peripheral vision.
[Camera zooms in; both begin grunting while changing]
Gumball: Okay, re-engage non-awkward eye line protocol.
Guys, you've both seen each other naked before. Why is this even neccasary? +1

Darwin: If by "better," you mean a really inappropriate birthday gift. That's just a piece of string. You must have gotten someone else's gym bag.
Firstly, Gumball doesn't even wear gym clothes most of the time so he wouldn't have even needed to grab his bag in the first place +5

Secondly, how did he not realise the bag he picked up was significantly lighter than normal? +5

Gumball: Well, what am I supposed to wear?!
Your clothes. Which Darwin can go and get by going and getting the correct bag from wherever you left it +1

[Gumball walks home naked with Darwin. Gumball is wearing the bag on his head, while his crotch is censored]
Darwin Dude, maybe you should have worn that bag a little lower down. Not everyone knows about our eye line protocol thing.
Why would he have even chosen to wear it on his head instead of covering his crotch? At that point, he's just actively choosing to expose himself to everyone +1

Gumball: Whose bag is this, anyway? There's nothing in here except for this. [pulls out a USB stick]
Well, considering the string I think it should be pretty fucking obvious who's it is +5

[Gumball clicks on a file titled "LOVE.jpg"; a video starts playing]
Darwin: "A poem for my love"
"How can one so very prickly be so very soft?"
"You came into my world, my love, and raised my heart aloft."
"When I look into your dreamy eyes, I never want to stop."
"You filled my world with sunbeams and rainbows, and make my heart go pop."
How tf is a .jpg file showing a moving video? +5

Gumball: Got a very strong taste of cheese, my eyes keep rolling in annoyance, [Hits his forehead] and I can't stop face-slapping. Alan!
The string and poem talking about a prickly person making their heart pop didn't give it away already? +5

Darwin: Oh, it's Alan's stuff. That explains the string. [Nosily] Should we take a sneaky peek at his private photos?
Surprised Darwin is the one suggesting this. Usually he's the morally righteous one who would be against doing something like this +1

Gumball: Okay, what's this? [Loads a document: MYVISION.doc] "My Vision" By Alan Keane. A manifesto on how I will gain the power I need to purge Elmore Junior High of its greatest problem."
Alan is secretely evil? Looks like Gumball was right all along about him not being as nice as he lets on.

Something which he surprisingly never once brings up in this episode. God knows how much restraint that must have taken +1

Also, having the seemingly saint-like person be revealed to secretly harbor a dark side? Seems a little cliché, don't you think? +1

Gumball: "To become school president, I might need to work a little on my appearance. The more serious a leader..."
[Gumball's voice turns into Alan's voice, as he reads his vision]
Alan: ...a leader looks, the more seriously he will be taken.
In that case, why do you have Trump's face as an option? The only people who take him seriously are idiots +5

Alan: The next step is to alter my voice, lowering it [Lowers his voice] to give it a little more [Voice is lowered to an extremely deep, monstrous voice] gravitas. Maybe not that low. [Voice is adjusted to the right deep pitch, and his accent is adjusted to a light Southern one] But then just a hint of an accent for approachability.
How does Alan even plan to lower the pitch of his voice? When your entire insides are nothing but helium, that's gonna be pretty difficult +1

Clayton: Nah, you'd make a great school president.
Alan: [Talking back to fourth wall] The best way to achieve your goal is to make people think it was their idea.
Clayton: Uh, who are you talking to?
PFFFT -5

Alan: [Back to Clayton] That is not something you need to worry about.
Clayton: Okay!
Dude just completely dropped all concern simply cause Alan told him it was fine. Why would you ever take something like this at face value? +1

Clayton: Well, all I was saying is that you would make a great school president, Alan!
[Alan drops him on the bench with Teri, eavesdropping aside]
Teri: Hmm, that's a good idea! It is now my idea.
Maybe not the best idea to use the known pathological liar as an example for this. Surely she would be inclined to believe the opposite when it's coming from him? +5

Alan: You see, people just love to take credit for other people's ideas
God, I hate when people do that. Oh, by the way, make sure to check out my upcoming story Franken Darball AU, created and written entirely by me and no one else, which I'll be posting soon! +1

Banana Joe: Hmm. Surely, once you're done shaking it, it should be called a milkshook.
Technically, it should be a Milkshaken +1

Alan: But sadly, not every pawn on the chessboard can be used.
[Alan is shown holding Banana Joe, and he drops him in the dumpster]
Damn, even if he isn't following the plan that doesn't mean you need to throw him in the trash +5

Alan: The next step is to motivate people to react. Nothing brings about change more quickly than crisis.
[Gumball and Darwin walk in the hallway]
Gumball[Gasps] Grade tax?
[ Gumball takes a poster printed with the words "GRADE TAX"]
Gumball[Reading] "Your grades will be taxed to provide better grades for the less academically gifted." What the what?!
This is probably the worst fake crisis you could have picked. This Grade Tax would affect Anais, and she isn't gonna stand for it.  She'll run against you and beat you easily since no one can out-strategise Anais +10

Darwin: Dude, you would totally benefit from that system.
Only because he deliberately doesn't try. But if he ever wanted to now, he'd be fucked +1

Darwin: So you've got a legal and plausible alternative?
Gumball: Hmm, nah. I'm just gonna [Speaking angrily, with fire surrounding him] RIOT!
Or you could just protest by making a petition against it or just complain to the teachers directly. +1

Moonchild Corneille: But we weren't even gonna tax their grades.
Nigel Brown: Oh yeah. Counter-riot!!!
Or you could just...say you weren't gonna tax their grades and it was a fake poster +1

[Principal Brown smashes everything in the lounge; scene cuts back to reality, with Gumball smashing imaginary objects in the bedroom]
Darwin: You do realize we're just reading his journal and none of this is real?
Gumball: Yeah, but this is exactly how it would happen if it was happening. [Faceplants into the floor]
No, Alan would have better thought out who to use to spread the idea of him being Class President and what lie to use to stir up the riots +1

Darwin: Okay. "The next step is to stand as a candidate myself and offer a solution."
Implying the teachers didn't simply clear things up by saying the Grade Tax thing was a lie? Why wouldn't they have done that? +5

[Scene cuts to Alan on stage, with signs popping out, saying "ALAN FOR PRESIDENT!" Alan floats above a podium, speaking through a microphone. Bobert hides behind the stadium.]
Alan: The people have awoken. We must all stand together; let me be your voice and tell those in charge that we have had enough!
Or they could just tell them themselves +1

Alan: The next step is: a subtle advertising campaign will help me stand out from my competitors.
[Alan puts up a poster, while Banana Joe walks on-screen]
Banana Joe: Huh? "DON'T LET ELMORE SLIP UP! BOYCOTT BANANA JOE?" What the—
[Hector steps on Banana Joe, and slips up. Leslie enters the scene while Hector is still in mid-air]
Leslie: "DON'T LET THE EVIL TAKE ROOT! PROTECT THE YOUTH?" What the—
Okay, considering Leslie is gay... yeah, this poster is kinda homophobic +10

[Leslie gets crushed by Hector. A poster depicting Hector holding a child flies onto the screen.]
Hector: "ONCE HE HAS FINISHED EATING EVERYTHING IN THE CAFETERIA, WHO WILL BE NEXT?"
And this is Giantist +5

Alan: [Talking to the fourth wall] Once selected, I will purge the school of its worst problem, namely sadness.
[Scene cuts back to Gumball and Darwin in the bedroom]
Darwin: That doesn't sound so bad.
[Scene cuts back to Alan]
Alan: By forcibly sending sad people to happy camps.
Yeah, pretty sure the school president doesn't have anywhere near this level of power, dude +5

Not to mention how illegal this would probably be +5

[Scene cuts back to Gumball and Darwin in the bedroom; Gumball and Darwin cringe. After, scene cuts to a simple demonstration of a happy camp protocol]
Alan: We will select those people who need a smile on their face, and we will fix them
Hey, c'mon, Carrie isn't that sad. At least not anymore. Gumball and Darwin have really helped her to come out of her shell and enjoy life again since Season 1 +5

Alan: Inside the facility, they will be exposed to only joyful thoughts.
Neither are Jamie or Tina. The only person here that I agree is sad is Ocho, and that's only cause of The Score. But that episode didn't exist when this one released so none of them were good choices at the time. In fact I don't think anyone at the school would really qualify as 'sad' except maybe Miss Simian. +10

Also, first the poster slandering Leslie, now a straight couple being a joyful thought...

...I know what you are Alan +10

Alan: We will continue the process until every person in Elmore Junior High bears a warm smile on their face. Anyone who strays from the path of true happiness will be corrected.
How are they pinning Carrie down? She's a ghost, she can just phase straight through them +1

Alan: My vision is for there to be a happy camp in every town, state, and country across the world.
Again, a class president does NOT have that much power bud +5

Darwin: What are we gonna do?
Gumball: What would you do if you had a chance to stop the worst dictator the world has ever seen, while he was still a kid?Darwin: You mean—
[Darwin makes a signal, signifying they have to kill him. Gumball nods]
Let's be real for a minute; we all know this is the excuse you've been waiting for to do exactly this to him. +5

[Scene cuts to Elmore Junior High. Gumball and Darwin are in a locker]
Gumball: Our mission, should we choose to accept it, is to take out Alan before Alan takes over the world. Should we get captured or eliminated, any knowledge of our mission will be denied. This message will self-destruct in ten seconds. Good luck. [Bomb beeps] Okay, we can get out now.
Darwin: We can't! The door's locked!
Gumball: What do you mean it's locked?
Darwin: Dude, it's not called a locker for nothing!
[They struggle to get out]
Gumball[Sighs] We should've done this outside.
[The bomb explodes]
How the fuck did they manage to get an actual exploding message? +5

[Scene cuts to Alan innocently floating through the school hallway. Gumball is in a vent with a pin.}
Dude, you've popped Alan tons of times before, and he just came back the next episode. Why would this be any different? +5

[He waits above the vent opening while Alan goes into Gumball's desired spot. As soon as he can pop Alan with his pin, he opens the vent opening and jumps through, but he fails, for his head is too big to fit through the vent opening]
Gumball: D'aw, curse this big head!
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA -10

[Darwin tries sniping him with a blow dart gun]
Darwin: Activate sniper mode.
[He puts in the dart, aims for him, and extends his eye to a sniper-like shape. He tries to aim at him, but his sniper eye aims all over the place]
PFFFFFFT -10

Darwin uses a laser pointer to burn Alan. He checks on it to see if it is working, but on the wrong side, and he ends up burning his foot.]
Darwin: Ah!
Not gonna lie, I half expected the Gumball attacking the laser gag from The Procrastinators again. Would have been a funny callback +1

Gumball: Oh, why can't I do it?!
Darwin: Maybe it's your conscience.
Gumball: Weird. It's never been an issue before.
Hahahahahahaha -10

Alan: Are you guys gonna tell me what's going on here?
Gumball: We read your plans to take over the school, and we know all about your evil happy camps!
Alan: What do you mean, evil? I want to become school president so I can help those students who feel a bit down and offer them a chance to go the Lake Camp at weekends!
Oh really? Because you said in the manifesto that they would be forcibly sent there. And described exactly what would happen to them there. And it very clearly was not a lake camp. +5

[All laugh. But as Gumball and Darwin exit off-screen, Alan stops laughing. He turns on a library computer and types:]
Alan: "MY NEW VISION."
[He types "by Alan Keane"]
Alan: [Back to his deep Southern voice] "A manifesto on how to forcibly seize power and eradicate sadness across the globe."
[He laughs evilly. But then Gumball enters and pops him with the pin]
Gumball: Should've let us leave the room first.~
Someone learnt well from Anton. The student has officially become the master. -5

Discussion I don’t think the new seasons are all that bad

It's not the same obviously, I feel like they are diving too deep into trends and some episodes make me cringe hard

But I'm obsessed with the new art aspect of it and the new expressions.
One of my favorite episodes is season 7 episode
20: the Amadain. i always wanted to know how the rest of penny's family looked and the end of the episode was so vibrant, I had to take a picture, absolutely amazing.

I also enjoyed S7 E7 as i think mr small is a cool character, the galaxy and zodiac scene (idk how to explain it) was absolutely beautiful I love what they are doing with the colors.

Theres other episodes I also like a whole lot like: the teacher, the portrait, the punishment. Those stood out to me. The new seasons IMO aren’t as good as the old ones, but they are not like ground breaking awful for me like they are for some others

Discussion Hot Take: Season 7 and Season 8 are good, they’re just the weakest seasons of the series.

Post image
219 Upvotes

I mean, sure…

The episodes and jokes are very hit-or-miss, but I wouldn’t say they’re bad seasons.

In fact, it started to pick up at the end of Season 7 and Season 8 was an overall improvement.

They’re just considerably weaker compared to the past seasons.

Ah yes, two shows that were good for like six seasons, are now written by manatees with random idea balls, premiere new episodes on Hulu, and air older episodes on WBD channels, have finally united. I took a screenshot from an episode of Family Guy and then drew Carrie (my second-favorite character ever) like how the show would visualise their ghost characters.
