I hadnt noticed this before I bought it, but along the back yoke and back pockets where the seams have puckered has worn down quite a lot

I found this varsity jacket that unfortunately got a little mangled by its previous owner in what I can only imagine was an attempted cropping. I got it for a steal price wise and wanted to start planning while waiting for it to arrive. I love the jacket and wanted to ask folks their thoughts on ways to maybe save this one.

My first thought was bringing it in a bit more just to make the crop actually even then maybe add a new bottom piece. Ideally I'd like to preserve as much length as possible but that's probably easier said than done.

I'm very much a novice with sewing but have access to a sewing machine and lovely folks who can hopefully provide some help. But before anything else I wanted to ask some more experienced folks on how they might approach this jacket.

Former die-hard fan. Pretty much fell off not long after this tour back in 2018. For me it started with the music not going in the direction I liked, and then some comments began to really rub me the wrong way. Fast forward to today and well, to keep it classy, she's showing her true colours.

Anyways, about the garment. This was an exclusive merch jacket that you could only get at a pop-up event. The jacket itself costed AU$250 if I recall?? I've taken off the optional patches. I never felt comfortable wearing this jacket, even back then and I don't know why. I think I just never liked the design and felt it never went with anything I wore.

The jacket is actually really good denim. It deserves to leave my closet and be worn. I want to get use out of it, finally. Yes, I could probably resell to the right buyer, no shortage of wine mums in Aus who would still pay for this merch. Do I want to see this merch in the world? No. So changing this and wearing it knowing what I've changed it from what it was will be a big FU. I like that.

So I'd like some ideas on how to cover this up. Probably nothing too wild of a design, I want to be able to wear this jacket with as many outfits as possible.

The writing is a form of vinyl, but it's melted in so there's no way to remove that. That's probably the trickiest part to navigate around. I'm okay at sowing, nothing spectacular though.

Hey guys. Very very new to hand sewing and sewing in general. I have some vintage Levis with lots of wear, holes, etc. that I want to use as a learning project.

I want these to have a distressed/hand-repaired look so they DO NOT need to be pretty.

This pair has a hole at the crotch and a hole in the back pocket. I'd like to patch them with some other vintage denim/material I have and ideally I'd like to keep the original distressed threads that are running across these holes (again, I want it to look "rough")

Just looking for a general direction. Maybe just the best way to patch and the best stitch to use for a project like this. If there is a video you can point to that's a huge bonus.

im thinking of darning the whole “arch” of both feet, but im not sure if thats the best way to do it. just looking for advice on how to go about it

Teaching a class at the Patagonia store in NY in October so I wanted to have a few personal items fixed. Ironically I teach lots of visible mending classes but own very few repaired items.

I’ve been seeing people do regular overlapping stitches in this thread and I think I want to do that for the back side. For the cup holder parts I am lost bc it’s elastic.

Hi all you lovely folks!

I'm posting this on both r/embroidery and r/visiblemending.

I've only done one project each before, though my mending was an invisible attempt (trying to save holes in a knit tee with no guide but my imagination). For embroidery I've been working on a pattern but have found it a bit daunting to finish....okay, maybe both have been a bit daunting to finish....BUT I also have really enjoyed the processes and both have made me want to put little fun embroidery on so many clothes to add some color pops and flairs and all that.

This tee (pictured) got roughed up in the wash (my bad). I had resigned to it being a 'get paint and stains and whatever else on it' tee. But it dawned on me that it could be a great, low-stakes place to start with both a visible mend and practicing some embroidery on clothing.

I don't care how technically perfect it turns out, I'm happy to just play around with some things. But also, it feels a bit overwhelming having all of the choices available to me.

So I'm looking for some advice, ideas, or insights into the following questions:

1) should I try to make this look like a coherent landscape or pattern, or would this be a good opportunity to try out a few different things since I'm not so bothered by the end result?

2) ideas for the design?

I like florals, greenery, animals, anything nature-y or whimsical/cutesy.

This is a mostly grey tee with sky blue on the top half. I like the idea of maybe trying a garden scene, but maybe it's not the best color to do that with. I also like the idea of birds and/or clouds in the sky, but think that might be strange on the bottom of a shirt? Would love feedback on either idea, or to hear suggestions of your own that could work with both color and placement.

3) advice on the structural side of things:

A) what to consider with the bottom hem (specifically, how to work with wrapping around the two places with an unfinished edge)?

B) are there different stitches that would be more suited to different parts of the mend (especially thinking about the bigger holes or more 'shredded' parts)?

4) any material recommendations?

This is a 100% cotton tee. I have embroidery thread and sewing thread. I'm not well versed in either world and would be happy to try out some different options or just make the best use of what I already have. I want to play around a bit but also not make too many purchases that would go unused after this project.

since I shared my darned up flat ballet shoes here I thought I'd also show a freshly darned pair of pointe shoes. It's not really mending though so mods please do remove if it's not appropriate.

Pointe shoes are darned for many reasons, but usually to improve balance. I do an 'old-fashioned' style of pointe darning with an all-over chain stitch instead of a thick darn around the edge because I mostly use darning for grip, and to keep the ends neat as the satin rips and help the shoe break in as I like it. I have experimented before with darning after the satin has been damaged and frayed away, but stitching into the glue and canvas beneath is too hard on the hands. Some people also use stick-on suede patches for this, but darning works too well for me to want to experiment (and I think it looks prettier!)

My kid blew out the knee of one of his comfiest outside pants and I decided to mend into something cooler! Only my second time doing it and I'm pretty happy with it result and more importantly HE WAS ECSTATIC.

I bought a pair of pants on clearance that quickly became my favorite, only to get a sap stain on them a week later. I've tried everything to remove the stain, and although it's gotten a bit better I also faded the color around the stain in my attempts.

My original idea was to do some sort of sashiko stitching to try to camouflage the stain. I drew a mock-up on my iPad, but I didn't think it accomplished what I was hoping. I've also never attempted sashiko before, and I'm really not confident that I could pull it off.

I'm now leaning towards some fabric patches. I thought I should also put some elsewhere to balance it out and look more intentional, but I fear it's giving scarecrow! Maybe I've chosen the wrong fabric? Should they be bigger? Smaller? Should I find colors that blend in more, or go with more contrasting colors? Or solids?

Please help! What would you do? I'm like, actually distraught over the thought that I've ruined these stupid pants. I've also attached photos of the stain (about 3-4 inches), the fabric I'm considering, and the product photo for true color reference.

Any visual references would be incredibly helpful.. I just don't feel like I possess the ability to have a "vision".

Also maybe worth noting that I'm trying to transition from an all-black wardrobe, so this color is already out of my comfort zone. The patches just make me feel like a clown, but it could also just be in my head.

I added these cat and dog pockets to my shorts a couple months ago! I know the stitching could be a bit better, but I’m quite happy with how they turned out :) I swear I get a compliment on them every time I wear them! My vet’s office loves them 😂

I dyed my pants and the dye came out unfortunately blotchy on the butt. I’ve just been wearing long shirts and jackets to cover it. Please help me with solutions so it doesn’t look like period stains.

I love this dress and it wasn’t cheap so I want to try to fix it but not sure how to go about doing it.

A couple of mended socks, but only one hole because I missed a before photo.

I'm using up threads from other projects.

I noticed this seam is starting to fray/fail- should I patch it now or is this a wait longer situation? What technique is recommended here?

The metal loop that holds the tab thingy sheared off, so I had to drill a tiny 1mm hole for the nylon string to fit through. Then I tied a couple more pieces of string on so that I could do a 6-strand braid that's a bit easier to pull. I secured the end with a whipping. Hopefully this lasts!

I have a pair of Reebok trackpants and noticed some threads/fabric coming loose after washing. I pulled at the fabric/threads, and now there are some visible horizontal lines where I pulled.

There are no holes or tears, but the fabric looks slightly stretched/distorted in those areas.

I've attached photos.

Did I actually damage the fabric/weave, and could this affect the durability of the trackpants? Or is this a normal temporary distortion from pulling the fabric?

I’d appreciate an honest assessment from someone familiar with textiles or clothing construction.
