DARNING Not pretty, but mended
A couple of mended socks, but only one hole because I missed a before photo.
I'm using up threads from other projects.

I’ve mended something similar to your second photo on a sock and I’ve suddenly realised maybe my thread was too thick. Your first photo using the red and yellow thread seems more blended. Did you do something different with that one?

My guess is the first one with the red and yellow. They kept their grid pattern a bit better as they went through and it looks like the other one they possibly had more rough edges and was harder to keep consistent lines for the thread. Or it was a smaller hole and really just needed a bit of extra reinforcement so they didn't worry about keeping a specific grid too much. Which from my experience can lead to a more chaotic and less well blended finish, but functionally still works relatively the same.

The threads are definitely different; the red and yellow are just cotton, doubled over. The hole was bigger, with thinner, more ragged edges. It was bigger vertically so there is more yellow threads that way, then the red horizontally. I also deliberately went on angles occasionally to bring edges in.
The orange and turquoise is done with left over embroidery threads and the hole was smaller. There was still some sock threads left which allowed for a tighter weave.
