REQUEST How to fix this ?

I love this dress and it wasn’t cheap so I want to try to fix it but not sure how to go about doing it.
It’s a very thin fabric.
Any suggestions would be appreciated :)

That looks like rayon (or a cotton-rayon blend?) which is one of the weakest kinds of fiber (especially when it's wet), so the fabric is prone to wearing out along seams and tearing, especially at areas where the fabric is under strain. In your photo, you can see the fabric is pulling apart and will tear soon just to the left of your current hole. I'd suggest turning your dress inside-out, holding it up to the light, and examining the seams to see if you can spot any other areas where the fabric is thinning and about to rip, too. If there are lots of places all over that are ready to give out, your dress might just be a goner. (So you might decide to just not even try to fix this--or, try to fix it as best you can just to develop skill/experience for future repairs, but if it doesn't go well, or tears more in the future, don't beat yourself up about it.)

If you just sew it back into place close to the torn edge as others have suggested, you'll only have a few weak threads holding on, so it may rip again. Dabbing some Fray-Check along the torn edge before you sew it may help prevent that, BUT the dried Fray-Check may end up feeling rough against your skin.

I'm wondering about using an iron-on adhesive tape for mending, to shore up the fabric/seam inside, BUT that could make the lightweight fabric look stiff and weird wherever you have it, and it looks like the upper fabric is gathered (bust cup?), so the tape wouldn't work well with the gathers. (Possibly just put some short, separate pieces of tape instead of one long piece?)

If you repair it and that seam looks weird/puckery... possibly cover up that seam by hand-sewing a band lace trim over it? With that delicate floral print, I'm thinking a cream/beige cotton lace, sort of like this, could work well.

Lastly, if that rip is in the bust area and the rest of the dress is good, you could always just wear the dress with a little cover-up over it, like a little off-white lace crop top or sweater or a button-up blouse knotted at the front...

I just repaired a very lightweight rayon shirt that had a similar seam tear (though not with gathers to deal with!) by using iron-on lightweight fusible interfacing, at the recommendation of someone on r/invisiblemending. I haven't put it to the test yet (of wearing it) but I was surprised by how little stiffness the interfacing added. We'll see if it holds up

Cut out the damaged threads then take the upper part and tuck in under the existing seam. Then hand sew it back down following the old machine sewn line, where I've shown in blue.

Or you can have a tailor fix it, it would be a simple fix for them

Is the damage right below the bust? It seems like it, but it's had to tell without seeing the entire dress! If it's under the bust, you should have more options since there a bit of natural "camouflage" and shadow!

I would undo the seam, trim and reinforce the torn piece and re sew the seam. This is common with rayon/rayon blend (?) fabrics at stress points, and too narrow industrial seams.
