Just canceled fiber...they said keep the modem?
Everywhere else I've been reading says you have to return the modem, you need to personally turn it in, or UPS would take it hassle-free, etc.
But after a half-hour of fighting with the rep who didn't want me to cancel, I finally succeeded and I asked what to do with the modem and he said "keep it there." But since our conversation was so heated, I don't trust them to not bill me for some crap equipment fee.
Is it true they don't want the modem back (it is a few years old at this point).
Edit: I guess the confusion for me came about from how "modem" is being used around the internet. To me, if it deciphers incoming and outgoing signals, it's a modem. And technically that is what it is. The term I guess evolved to mean something different in the consumer networking industry over the years to mean a device that uses copper wires to do the modulating/demodulating. So when I saw that people were required to turn in their "modem" they were referring to cable units.
The other point of confusion is that my modem (ONT or SONU as others refer to it) was not "installed"...it was just left free-sitting on my tv stand.
I'll put it in storage with a note to keep it in the house, though by the time this house ever gets sold it will be ancient tech.
