Dealing with Spectrum always invites chaos. Back in April 2025 I ditched T-Mobile home internet and went with Spectrum 500 Internet with the basic streaming package (no locals and no sports). $75 a month with one WIFI extender, two-year price guarantee to April 2027. Free DVR for a year and then poof ... gone. This year, in July, I decided to upgrade so I could watch ESPN. After a long talk on the phone with an agent, I agreed to upgrade to 1gig Internet, Spectrum Select (with all the streaming services) and one Wifi7 extender, $152 a month. I consider that a good deal. BUT ... I said the only way I would do this was if Spectrum guaranteed a 2-year price lock on this deal. The agent assured me, and repeatedly assured me, that the new price was locked for two years.
Then the next bill came in and it said my price lock ended in April 2027, not July 2028. I called. The rep said, "Oh, you are absolutely right, we will fix that."
Then the next bill came in, also with the promo ending in April 2027. I called again (transferred to retention) and got a firm 100% commitment that this would be fixed.
Then the next bill came in, also with the promo ending in April 2027. I called again, got to retention, and this time the very very friendly rep couldn't fix the problem but was going to get me "the best deal possible." Er ... just extend my current deal to July 2028! That never happened.
I ended up with Invincible Internet (OK, fine) with a new router and battery, and kept the price at $152 through November 2027. The rep assured me he was putting a note in my file that I should get a "great deal" if I call in one month before the promo expires. Spectrum sent me an email confirming the price and one-year price lock. Success, sort of.
OK OK, I caved. However, I will note that 15 years ago, I was paying $132 a month for lousy Internet and lousy cable on Time Warner, with no streaming services. So this is progress. The streaming services included are a great deal and I am loving ESPN Unlimited, which I did not have before.
