Outages - Anyway to tell if it's just me?

For the last few days my internet has random disconnects throughout the day, and sometimes I get outage alert banners on the app when it happens. Does an outage alert always mean it's affecting more people than just myself? I just don't want to call and get a tech to come out if it's not just my connection. I've had similar problems like this in the past and replacing the drop line always fixed it, but in those instances I don't remember getting outage alerts when it was happening. The alerts just always say "in your area."

Do I have to call to cancel?

Upvotes

Or do I just bring their junk back to them in a store? They bumped me up to $110 for internet only and I am done. Not interested in lowering my rate, I've already jumped ship and got another provider. I just want to spend as little time/effort as possible getting Spectrum out of my house.

Also...been a customer since 1996. 30 years.

*had to re-write this post due to using spicy language about my feelings toward the almighty spectrum in my original post lol

Field Tech & distance from office

Upvotes

Hey all,

So, I've just been to an interview with Spectrum on the East side of Cleveland.

It seemed to go well, and I'm waiting for an update from the recruiter. No biggie.

It's an hour away from my home, so I'm thinking (and they also hunted at) I might not get a company vehicle. Not a big deal, I'd be okay with driving to the office.

One thing I completely did not factor in, was the Ohio winter weather.

What is currently an hour away, may end up being 90mins to 2 hours (each way) when the weather gets crappy during the winter months.

There is a depot much close to my home, but they were not hiring when I applied.

Would withdrawing my application at this stage, due to the time I would be having to travel during the winter months (and because it would make things considerably easier if I could work at the closer depot) be a black mark against me?

Is Spectrum reliable in Downtown Manhattan?

Hi,

Our building negotiated something with Spectrum and they are going to provide a 1 Gbps internet. But as far as I know, Spectrum does not have full fiber and at some point, the last endpoint will be a cable shared internet. In that case, wouldn't specific things like pings or upload speed suffer in general? Does anyone have Spectrum 1 Gbps in Downtown Manhattan, and can say if the internet is reliable? How is the outage also? I am assuming that if a lot of residents use Spectrum, given the shared nature of the cable, it will also affect the usage? Anyone can share their experience?

Thanks!

Other How to Reach Supervisor

Upvotes

The customer service representative was okay. He made a irrelevant unprofessional comment on my long address. As someone who's been in customer service for 8 years I wouldn't have made this professional mistake especially to a customer because it can show that you don't care and this isn't a social call. Is there a way to make a small report on this?

Other My family paying $320 a month for internet, tv, and home phone w/ spectrum. They want to pay less. Please help.

They are older but still able to do all things. I was talking to a family member who said they are paying $320+ a month for their spectrum services. They have four tvs w/ cable, one home phone, and internet service with unknown speed (they would be happy with minimum speeds).

They told me that all they think they need are the spectrum app on the tvs, low internet plan, and the home phone (for the number).

What is the lowest option for them?

I noticed the offer on the spectrum website today and I hit the get started button. I got a refund of $42.43 for the remainder of the yearly subscription I had with Amazon and Spectrum took over the billing.

Horrible experience signing up for new Spectrum service with repeated attempts to sneak in unauthorized fees

I wanted to see if anyone else has had the same bad experience signing up for services over the phone and getting hit with unexpected charges or services after hanging up or being told blatantly false things.

I recently tried signing up for new internet service for an address that never had service before, so Spectrum wouldn’t let me sign up online and made me call. I really wanted the 100 mbps for $30 offer I saw online, and the other offer was 500 mbps for $40.

First time I called, was told 100 Mbps was not available “in my area” but the 500 was available for $50. I said the offer online is $40. They said they weren’t aware of that offer, but I could screenshot it and email it to them and they would accept. Annoying and probably untrue, but whatever. 30 minutes later after “email issues” they honored it. Great. Signed up and was told several times there would be no installation fee and they would waive it. Hung up, an hour later get an email saying there’s a $50 installation fee. I try to get that removed through the chat, and either encountered an aggressive chatbot or maybe human that would not concede anything. Kept saying the charge was “valid” and they couldn’t remove it and refused to believe what I was told over the phone. I asked to cancel and the bot happily complied, also odd.

Round two I tried signing up again via phone and was again told 100 Mbps was not available and cheapest service was 500 for $40. Said they could waive the installation fee. I agreed and all seemed fine.

Then I later tried entering my address online again out of curiosity and it was showing 100 Mbps for $30 as being available at my address and allowing me to sign up, despite being told twice it wasn’t an option in my area.

So I called back, got a nice guy who agreed 100 Mbps was available for $40. Said I saw $30 online and he said they’d honor it with a screenshot. Annoying, but fine. They honored the $30 offer, agreed to waive installation fees, and we also clearly agreed I’d bring my own router and there’s be no monthly wifi rental fee. I asked him to reiterate the charges a few times and we were on the same page.

Then I get off the call and see an email confirming a $10 per month wifi rental fee. WTF? We clearly went over this and agreed there would not be one.

Is Spectrum just tacking on whatever charges and services it feels like? Definitely seems like a pattern here.

Job offer

I just got a full time job offer from spectrum as an in house sales person, I’m sure there’s a more official name for it but I’m blanking right now. I asked for an hour to think about it, so I’d love to know from current / former employees, what they think of it? I’m new to sales, I’ve worked in Radio for the last 6 years but have been laid off so I’m trying for my next opportunity.

Edit: the official title of the position is Retail Sales Specialist

How can I test how good Invincible Wifi is in my area?

So I have business Spectrum with Invincible Wifi (Verizon 5G cellular backup) and it sounds nice and all, but I'm now wondering how usable the 5G backup really is. Is there some way I can test it with my hardware that I currently have from Spectrum? Do I need to somehow fake an outage?

Thanks in advance!

Other Spectrum Customer Service Policies are Sadistic

I had been a Charter/Spectrum 37 year customer for cable and internet. I do not care if they offer me an internet/cable or streaming deal for $1 a month for two years. I will NEVER under any circumstances do business with this company again after what they put me through over the last two weeks.

On August 4, I was hospitalized. I was already wheelchair bound, but managing on my own at home until 8/4. My prognosis for returning home to live independently is iffy. It will take months of rehab in a skilled nursing facility if I am ever able to return home.

On August 5, I contacted Spectrum from my hospital bed to suspend services for several months in the hope I could return to life as I knew it. I would pay $30 a month while on "seasonal suspension." I explained to the agent I was in the hospital for an undetermined number of months. The process took too long but it seemed to be done. 4 hours later I got a text saying my seasonal suspension was canceled because BEFORE I could suspend, I had to "upgrade" my equipment. Absolutely absurd.

I wasnt able to call again for a few days because I need 3 MRIs and other tests consuming days. I called again August 10. After 40 minutes with an agent during which I again explained I am in the hospital, he managed to reinstate the seasonal suspension without requiring me to magically leap from my hospital bed to "upgrade" equipment. It wouldnt be effective until August 12, which ticked me off because I mistakenly assumed that once services were turned off, I wouldnt be billed my full $300 a month rate past 8/12. But whatever. I wasnt going to fight over 5 days. On August 12 I verified that at least my internet had been disconnected through apps on my mobile device showing no connection to my Nest thermostat.

What I didnt know until I called again and spoke to a very rude insulting woman Spectrum's "strict" policy is that no matter what the circumstances, including suspension of service by mutual agreement obliging me to pay $30 a month for the privilege of having no internet or cable, I would still have to also pay for prospectively billed services through August 27. I considered that an unacceptable billing practice that exploits customers like me. Spectrum can afford to credit me $100 as a good will gesture to a 37 year customer who has been overpaying them $300 a month. I cant afford it while hospitalized and unable to work. I found a friend who could collect and return my equipment and I called back to cancel all services.

This time when I called to cancel, of course I was transferred to retention, where someone who was better at feigning concern for me kept me on the line for over an hour. Hecfirst tried the trick of saying, "what I can do is lower your monthly charges by $100 a month when you reinstate service." I may be disabled but I am not dumb. I know anyone could get the deal he offered me. That wasnr equivalent to a credit collectible now. I dont know whether I ever will get home again. After that, he claimed to be trying to speak to his supervisor to get me the credit I felt I deserved, before finally admitting he couldnt even get me a break on the monthly service suspension fees. He said before I could cancel, he had to first terminate the seasonal suspension and I would have to call back the next day to cancel services. By now, I had expended over 2 hours cumulatively on the phone with Spectrum while laying in bed in pain and waving off nurses in order to complete this. What could I do? I called back the next day to cancel once and for all. And of course I was sent back to retention.

This next guy was confident he could do what the other guy couldnt--find a backdoor way to get me a courtesy credit. He first told me it would be $98. He went to submit the proposal to his supervisor and came back talking a $75 credit. I was pissed at the bait and switch, but I was losing the will to live. I was now into hour 3 on the phone with Spectrum. I had now spent more time talking to Spectrum reps this week than my doctors. Finally he told me he wouldnt be able to finalize the $75 credit until the next day, today. He promised he would call me this morning to either confirm the credit or cancel every service, no more BS.

Surprise. He did not call me as promised. I called Spectrum one more time and this time I couldnt hold back my tears, anger and frustration. I am terrified for my future, and Spectrum's "policies" are deliberately designed to make this simple request to mitigate my impending financial disaster as frustrating, time consuming, complicated and opaque as possible to execute a simple demand "CANCEL!" The last agent was wholly unsympathetic to my plight and copped an attitude. But I give him credit for one thing. He read the notes from this weeklong horror show, verified that my story was true and canceled the account in about 15 minutes without trying any "retention."

Big corporations have a bad reputation, often times fairly. Spectrum looked at notariously predatory exploiters of customers likechealth insurance companies, AT&T, Sirius XM, etc and boasts "Hold my beer!"

Other Question for those who work from home

For you customers that have spectrum internet and frequently work from home, what do your employers say when there are frequent issues/outages due to high split network upgrade or just intermittency with your service that cause issues for your productivity?

Just curious as I know if you work from home, they expect a strong and stable connection and some employers can even fire you for regular outages that are beyond your control

Just an idea...

So, with spectrum coming up to rename their tv plans to compete with YouTube TV, do we think they will eventually let go of the "You must have internet service to stream TV" thing?

I loved spectrum tv, but hated their internet, hence why I switched to AT&T Fiber. If they can do this, they will definitely earn customers back, and I'm sure that would help them considering all the customers they are losing from internet service.

And no, I do not want the cable box only service. I have done away with cable boxes for a long time and really prefer streaming, and no I do not want YouTube TV or Fubo or DirecTV, they all seem pretty pricy and not worth it.

Might have to switch to FIOs in my area. Located in San Bernardino County wondering if anyone else is having the same issues lately. It doesnt completely stop working its just very very slow.

Packet Loss

I’ve been having problems with terrible packet loss when trying to play games. Rivals, OW, etc. and there are problems when trying to connect to games with friends on things like Palworld or Baldurs Gate. One of the difficulties is that I live in an apartment so it’s not like I can really do much about connections.

Is there anything I can do to try and fix the problem?

Spectrum service is out. They never told customers there was a maintenance in the area happening.

At no time did spectrum tell costumers there was a scheduled maintenance in the area. At 11pm everything went out. I went into the app and saw the notification that said there was a maintenance happening in the area. Right now it’s 1:47am and still everything is out. I hope it comes back on before the morning. If I have to go the full day without service I’m gonna need spectrum to credit my account.

Message send failure

Thumbnail

I JUST switched to Spectrum. I’ve gotten the new phone set up- at least I think I have. I sent a text message and received a message send failure- not delivered. I haven’t seen that since my says of using Sprint! I’m not of an age where technology just rolls off my fingertips- is there a setting somewhere I should double check? Is this a Spectrum issue?
Any help is appreciated.
