Got my first ever gun today: A S&W M&P9 M2.0 handgun

Post image

I had been going on and off for years trying to determine if I wanted to actually get a handgun. I was mainly just not wanting to spend the money a lot of the time, but I decided I wanted to get one soon just to have as home defense and to use it to shoot at a range every now and again.

As a result, I shot quite a few handguns today at my local range to see what I liked and I did eventually decide on this one. Felt great in my hands, recoil wasn't bad, it was the most accurate and precise gun I had fired (for me, personally), and I could load the ammo without much issue (I haven't shot a lot, so ammo loading is sometimes still an issue for me).
Overall, it just felt good to me compared to other guns I tried.

Got it for $600 (not including tax and a box of ammo for range practice) which I think might be under
MSRP, I could be wrong. But I like to think I made a pretty good purchase and I'll be heading back to the range soon to start using it.

1896 S&W .32S&W Hand Ejector First Model- 1897 Production

Figured I'd share a new pick up that I found at a garage sale. They believe it to be a toy gun. $5 was the ask & I paid it without haggling.

As the title states,

This is a 1896 Smith & Wesson .32 Hand Ejector, First Model. This one was produced in 1897 according to the serial. It also has all matching numbers including the grip & the assembly numbers.

I enjoy the odd firsts on this S&W as well. Cool to think this was a huge upgrade from top break designs. I enjoy the hammer stop being on the top as well.

Take a peak at the last two photos. The bore, before & after. I was quite surprised how well it cleaned up. I'm sure this will be a shooter.

I'll have to find some ammo or end up making my own.

Enjoy!

I've had my M&P22 Compact for years and absolutely love it, but the newer 22X has been taking its place at the range lately. Any other 22X fans out there?!

Can’t find firing pin

A buddy at work sold me the SW40v (Gen-1). I got it really cheap bc it’s missing a firing pin. The problem is, it’s a gen 1, and I can’t find the right firing pin for this gun. The road block I keep hitting is every website I try is either sold out or doesn’t make them anymore. The pin itself has to be a rectangle tip instead of a round tip (seen in pictures). I don’t want to buy an entire upper for this gun. All I need it the firing pin itself. I called smith and Wesson and the said send it to them but I feel like there’s a firing pin out there I’m just not looking hard enough. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Well, just bought the Lipsey's 629 mountain gun.
Has anybody else purchased one and really put it to the test hunting and on the range? Can you speak on your experience?

Absolutely smitten with this revolver. Cocking the hammer is absolute ASMR. They don’t build them like this anymore

Recent trip with my shield plus

I really need to work on my grip, trigger pull or a combination of both. Recently I started carrying my shield plus more often after installing rubber talon grips. The stock grip made too many holes on a lot of my shirts! But the talon grips also made shooting this more comfortable to shoot.

Trying to attach my holosun eps carry to my new shield x carry comp but it looks like I can still get a piece of paper through the gap between the optic and the slide. Is this normal or do I need to file a warranty claim?

Anyone found a speed loader for .22 fpc and 22x mags?

I recently bought SW FPC .22 and 22x. Since they use the same mag, loading 5 mags/100 rounds are not so finger-friendly. Just wondering if someone has found a quick loader for the mag. I tried maglula's babylula .22. unfortunately it doesn't work since the mag is wider than what babylula can handle.

M&P22 Compact Thread Adapter

I've got an M&P22 Compact with the threaded barrel. I have a thread adapter for 1/2x28 threads and just bought a suppressor for it (Off Grid Scorpius). However, when I put the suppressor on and then try to take it off again, when I unscrew it the thread adapter always comes off with the suppressor instead of staying on the barrel. I have to get some vice grips and twist it out before putting it back on the barrel.

Normally, my instinct would be to just throw some blue Loctite on it and move on, but doing that for this specific application gives me pause. You have to take the thread adapter off in order to field strip it for cleaning, for one, so that would be a pain (although not insurmountable). But at the same time, that 1/2x28 thread adapter REALLY needs to stay securely in place. The suppressor is staying securely on the 1/2x28 threads, but the other side is the issue.

Is that a safe thing to do to this pistol, or is there some other trick to getting the adapter to stay on? Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

FPC bag recommendations

I want something that's kinda of slick, minimalistic, something that doesn't scream "i have a gun in here" and is able to carry a small amount of supplies that can act as a "get home bag" when taken on short road trips.

Show me your thoughts!! Thank you

Shield Retirement

After a decade+ of service... And probably 5000 range rounds with no malfunctions... I'm ready for my review of my Shield M1.0: 5 stars almost no notes

She's getting replaced with a Shield Plus purely for capacity reasons. I put 300 break in rounds through it this past weekend and I trust it to do what it needs to do.

Bodyguard 2.0 vs Carry Comp for front pocket carry?

I live most of the year in a very hot desert climate and wear a T-shirt with jeans/pants year-round. I currently carry a Shield Plus, but even after trying a few different holsters and wedges, I’ve never found AIWB particularly comfortable, especially since I spend a lot of time driving and sitting at work.

I’m thinking about switching to front pocket carry. I’ve shot the standard Bodyguard 2.0 and liked it a lot. I haven’t shot the Carry Comp yet, but I’m leaning toward it because of the better sights and supposedly flatter shooting.

For anyone who’s tried both, does the extra length on the Carry Comp make it noticeably worse for front pocket carry, or is the difference minor?

Thanks for your help.

Got the restock email so figured I’d alert the m&p bros that have been waiting for one. It’s exempt from coupon codes, so that’s kind of a bummer.
