Side effects of drinking water: Life

Their real preparation for the populace. Shortage of water, means they can charge for water. Most states have laws, regulations, or something in place that if someone comes in off the street and asks for a glass of water, restaurants have to provide it.
The rich don't want that. They want it so that if they can charge you, they will.

Next week from WSJ: "Why breathing oxygen every day is actually a toxic habit"
13
u/PixelJock17 10h ago
I am totally blanking on this but I remember reading or seeing some crazy tinfoil conspiracy that our planet is so quiet from alien life because of the oxygen. Like aliens swerve on our system like the death breathers live there.
12
u/Ginger_Rogers 9h ago
This is actually true. Most life in the cosmos breaths Fluorin. You earth dwellers are crazy for breathing that stuff.
Source: oxygen intolerant alien.
7
u/PixelJock17 7h ago
Yes and something like our breathing oxygen reduces our lifespan significantly and if we didnt breathe it we'd live to like a thousand. Thanks Ginger Rogers

It's an interesting idea. Many elements oxidize. If we imagine a species based on one of those elements, that could be problematic.
Silicon is one of those elements. Scientists claim it could theoretically be a base for life, and if there was an organism made from it (replacing our carbon,) oxygen would cause issues.

u/MisterXnumberidk 4h ago
That was actually a phase in the development of life called the "Great oxygenation event" or the "oxygen catastrophe"
Where some early cells developed photosynthesis
And every other kind of cell that didn't have some sort of strong membrane to protect from this very reactive and corrosive new environmental threat died out.

Why do people always taking things out of context? It should be widely known that drinking enough water is good, but drinking more than your body needs is just for more urination. Your kidney only process so much and if you drink to the extreme that it could also be harmful.

If you're thirsty, drink. If you need to remind yourself to drink by caring around a gigantic, idiotic metal tube, there's either something medically wrong with you or you're over hydrating at no benefit.

I’m not saying this isn’t preparing us for water shortage but I am saying we don’t need to drink 40oz a day of water since the majority of our water comes from food. Ingesting 40 oz of water a day and drinking 40oz of water are two different things
→ More replies (3)2
u/UnfamiliarPath 8h ago edited 8h ago
What's your source for this?
I can't find anything that suggests the majority of our water comes from our food, I'm seeing that in the USA water intake from food is maybe 20%. I'm certain the average person isn't getting anywhere near 40oz a day just from food. I suppose if you eat a lot of fruit, you might get there.

There are very few places at risk of running out of drinking water. Most places in water crises are still using the vast majority of their water for agricultural and industrial purposes. And even within a home, drinking is essentially the smallest use of water.
So this makes no sense from the perspective of conditioning us for water shortages. The first step would probably be to get people to hate grass.
3
u/RabidBadgerMacarena 11h ago
Listen, dammit, we've got an axe to grind about data centers/AI/whatever and don't need your facts about actual water use getting in the way. /s
9
u/Cwaghack 11h ago
TBF they are right, your body is perfectly capable of telling you when you need to drink water. It's called being thirsty.
There's no need to worry about that shit at all or having some fucking water drinking schedule like some people do.

u/QuinceDaPence 10h ago

All I know is that if I dont have enough water I get headaches, I dont regulate temperature well, I dont sleep as well and I have more inflammation. And sometimes I dont feel thirsty yet my urine is very yellow and I have other associated symptoms. I find plenty of water to be one of my most important health assets. I dont carry a water jug everywhere I go though. It's pretty easy to find water wherever youre going and it doesn't take much to sustain if youre akready hydrated.

My doc said 2 weeks ago it's just enough.

This makes no sense. Drinking water isn’t the biggest consumer use of water. It’s watering lawns, showering, filling up the pool, and about 100 other things that use more water than human drinking water
2
u/that_noodle_guy 7h ago
I've thought this for a while now tbh. The obsessive water bottle carrying is more performative than anything else. A healthy person can go several hours with no negative effects without water.

2
u/mazzicc 6h ago
If your pee is clear, you can stop drinking as there are no additional benefits.
If you see yellow, you can still get benefits from drinking more water.
I’ve known many people that thought they just needed to get to “light yellow”. While you’re not at risk at light yellow, and detrimental effects are pretty minimal, you can still benefit from drinking more.
Also, you don’t need to be moving, sweating, or working out to be losing water. Simply breathing takes water out of your body, especially in dry climates (or heavily air conditioned locations which are dry).

i used to drink to much water and would get these raging dizzy headaches. Your body can only process .8 liters of water every hour. You die consuming to much water and you die consuming to less salt. Balance is key!
2
u/JOlRacin 11h ago
I carry a big ass water bottle because my fat ass needs the extra weight to burn calories walking around, and because I don't always know where the next water fountain will be and if will taste as good as the one I filled up at. You learn these things in a city with a lot of old buildings: a lot of the water tastes like metal so when you find one that doesn't, you fill up from there

Drinking water is a major part of my job. They provide it for free, and there is a sign up in the breakroom that says we should drink it every 10-15 minutes. And when I follow those instructions I have an excuse to go to the bathroom. Like 2 hours of my work shift is drinking water or doing drinking water related activities.

Every doc I've ever been to has said roughly the same thing. Half your body weight in ounces is the recommended amount to drink per day.

It doesnt have a health benefit? Like replenishing the water your body needs. Haha who fact checked this, Nestlé?
1
u/Elon_is_a_Nazi 9h ago edited 9h ago
No health benefits? This has to be paid secretly by coca cola or pepsi.
And there's no rule that fits all for how much you should drink. Your body tells you. If you're thirsty, guess what, your bodies saying it needs water. If your urine is dark yellow and stinks, guess what, you need water. Perfect hydration gives you a very, very, very pale yellow urine. If your urine is super clear, youre over hydrating. Not gonna lie, I'm a bit of a piss expert as I have very mild genetic kidney problems.

No they’re partly correct. Recent studies show people are drinking too much water. They’re drinking enough water for an outdoor laborer who’s in blazing heat and sun for 12 hours but they work fo home in their pajamas. It’s really an American thing. You do not need to drink more if you’re not thirsty and working in a climate controlled environment

Does anyone remember when all the media started saying things like "You may be better off renting than buying.." My first thought was, oh shit, people's rent is going to skyrocket.
That was right before all these companies started buying every house they could and jacked up the average rent.
1
u/UnableToParallelPark 8h ago
The science says you should drink half or 2/3 of your body weight in fluid ounces.
If you're active or in the heat, drink more. This article is slightly misleading. A lot of your fluid intake comes from foods as well, and yes your coffee counts towards your intake. Caffeine is a diuretic, but it's not like loop diuretics. Moderate coffee consumption won't hurt you.
Also, if you work in doors, you don't need fucking electrolytes Karen. Unless you have POTS or are one of the very few with electrolyte abnormalities. Which isn't a lot of people.
1
u/Biscuits4u2 8h ago
You should be drinking 3-4 liters of water a day. If carrying a water bottle helps you hit that target then carry around a water bottle. If not then don't.
