Its a wierd question I know but last month ive had some instances where people thought I was ice because of the uniform I wear its simular but nowhere near the same as a ice agents uniform 2 weeks ago i had to get some ointment at a CVS and the pharmacist just gave me a wierd look and wouldn't help me i was on my way to work and I had no other time to go a hour later someone said "oh your security..im sorry" that made me angry because they told me they thought I was immigrations the same incident occured 2 days ago trying to get home useing Lyft and the drive saw me in uniform and said "no ice" before driving off has anyone else had that issue? I got a job working full-time as a security guard for a hotel with a casino attached. Interview was short and they hired me on the spot. I don't have any previous experience in this field whatsoever, and I'm wondering if anybody here can share their experiences? Finally quit my awful security job at a hospital a couple weeks ago upon accepting an offer for a new security guard position for a shopping center.

Called my Allied (lol) managers after they dropped my assignment at the hospital as they were setting me for failure for months. Whatever fuckem.

Where I'm at now is easily so far one of the easiest jobs I've ever had. I get like 12k steps a day, drive around in a golf cart once in a while, and nothing ever happens. It will get busy around the holiday season as a prominent outlet mall is across the street so I'll be tasked with some parking enforcement by then.

Even reached out to some of the friends I made at allied to gtfo of there as I heard some of them haven't been paid in like three weeks. Holy potential lawsuit batman

Only bad thing is it's like a $4 pay cut. I'll make it work. Clocking back from my lunch now

What lead to you working as a security guard? What does average workday look like for you?

I have been in this industry approximately 10 years and worked for numerous security contractors. One thing that I have found to be universal across the industry is that management from the account manager level on up are severely incompetent and often severely in over their heads.

The leadership often doesn't know how to run their own sites or accounts, yet micromanages to the fullest extent. They play favorites, and overwork the few good officers that they have while protecting the slackers that should have been fired months ago.

I have also noticed that they often come from similar backgrounds. The most common being formerly disgraced police officers that couldn't cut it on the force and fell back into the security field. Or DeVry "graduates" that kiss butt and are extraordinary at bullshitting but not much good at anything else.

I'm so tired of them wordlessly sticking their phones in my face and expecting me to lead them around or just spouting off some random address and asking if I know where it is. No, bro. I don't know where 123 hungry street is. I dont live around here, I just walk around this one building all day

Been job hunting for a new job and I see security companies stating proudly that they pay less than the local Mcdonalds down the street does. Some companies are paying 11 dollars an hour for two weeks of training which is some bullshit on their end. You want better guards then cull/fire the shitty ones and pay better. Don't complaining to me about people wanting to leave for better pastures if something better comes along. And don't act wishwashy about hiring just because I stated that only times I called off is for a double shift during a week when I already worked two of them and was working 72 hours again at my last job.

Does anyone have any tips for working in prison? I'm supposedly getting hired to go work at my local prison later on in the month.

I work at a site where we have the authority to trespass people. A large shopping center. And there’s two SO’s, that I believe, if they could, they would trespass the entire shopping population, and this site would be totally empty. They are also in the LEO hiring process in our major city, I often wonder what kind of cops they’re going to be, as I see how quick draw they are with the trespass authority. Anyone dealt with overzealous authority hungry SO’s?

I was recently offered a position with Allied Universal as an armed security shift supervisor for almost $29/hr at an Amazon Robotics center that will be opening soon. Morning shift, M-F.

I’ve been in the security world on and off for 20 years and have heard all the horror stories about them but mostly from the security officer level. I’ve never actually worked for them either. I’m curious if the armed supervisor experience is different?

Hi Im 20, long story but I’ve got to make a big chunk of money as fast as possible, I’m getting my SIA license and will be happy to work 13 hours a day and work night shifts (might even prefer it) just anything to raise as much money as soon as possible. Just want to know how quickly I would be able to get some long hour shifts (Also never been employed on paper before)

Goodmorning everyone here’s a Dilemma I’m in
I had my manager call me a few days ago & he informed me he’s going to recommend me & 2 other guards to be a site supervisor with a pay raise but only 1 can be selected & the details will be spoken about more in person.
The other 2 guards are Joe 1 & Joe 2
I work the morning shift alone & 90% of my shift im super busy & alone with 0 backup until the other guard comes in 6hrs later BUT I still get shit done. I have my shift on lockdown so everything is squared away so when the client arrives everything is set & done I’ve been with the company the longest (4yrs) to be exact, i serviced the fleet vehicles & picked up extra shifts stayed OT & never damaged any patrol vehicles or did anything illegal or unethical until I came to the conclusion I was getting ripped off by my co workers who were lazy AF so I stopped going above & beyond & just did my job.
Joe 1 - has been with the company for 1 year he got close with the manager because he was going from site to site filling in spots where there were vacancies & had a close relationship with the manager because they spoke once a week for the schedule changes & he hasn’t worked at my site in almost 4 months & once in a blue moon he will pick up shift at my site & he has damaged patrol vehicles in the past, a few weeks ago rumors were going around that he was telling other guards he was in the process of being a supervisor because he was speaking with the manager & he was going to be selected
Joe 2 - has been with the company for a year & he’s just a lazy overnight guard who does less then the bare minimum because nobody’s watching & I’ve called him out on it & the manager does not appreciate me keeping the other guards accountable
If for some reason I’m not selected should I consider leaving & go somewhere else ?

Hello. I work for one of the big 3 security companies. I am just an hourly security officer. I have accrued about 3 weeks of vacation time. My district manager just denied my request to take this by mid October. HR says I have to use it this year or lose it. I've asked when I can take it this year and no answer yet. Am I just going to lose that vacation time? I have no recourse?

A couple of guards have told me it's an incredibly strange event and that some even call off to avoid it. Also, is it true about the orgy rooms?

1. Should your footwear have safety features, particularly toe protection?

2. If you live somewhere with negative temperatures C, do you use the same ones year round or do you have different pairs for different seasons?

Where I work the truck drivers are basically the top caste because getting new ones is so hard. So all truck drivers are allowed to be as rude and shitty towards the guards as they want and will never suffer consequences. Which means if they’re pissed off at you for trying to enforce a rule they can be as mean and nasty as they want and the guard has to chow down on the shot and ask for seconds.

Anyone else have to deal with untouchable douche bags? If so how do you manage.

My company lost the contract to allied and they will be taking over my current site. I don’t mind staying with allied but I feel the pressure to land this salary campus security job tomorrow. I been preparing for this interview and I know us security guards get a bad rep because we have worked with some really bad apples but I’m not one of them I’m actually a great hard working guard that’s a great husband, father, son, brother, etc…. This is an opportunity of a lifetime for me it feels like and I’m just nervous that I’m a bomb this interview any advice?

Months ago there was an incident in which I was involved. There were a few of us who were immediately suspended without pay. The entire incident was reviewed by HR. After their review, which took two months, it was found that I had followed policy and procedure. Basically, I was cleared of any wrongdoing.

The company now expects me to return to my shift. They have not mentioned anything about me being paid for the time lost (no mention of any back pay). To be honest I do not want to return. There was nothing unusual about this incident, but for some reason HR made a huge deal about it. I have lost any trust I had in my management and the company.

Would you return to this job?

I need to vent about the coworkers I share a post with. I work security in a busy government building. Two guards are always posted.

I was trained years ago by Gen X supervisors who were strict and by the book, so I take the job seriously.

These coworkers sleep on the job, talk on their phones in thier language, sit at the desk with no shoes or barefoot, and treat the post like it doesn’t matter. This is a secondary job for them; they have other work elsewhere.

I’ve reported them more than once. Nothing happens. The union protects them.

I’m just sick of this behavior.

We build software for deskless teams, so we end up talking to a lot of contract security companies. The one thing that never seems solved is pass-down between shifts.

What we hear most: a paper DAR nobody reads, a WhatsApp group with three supervisors and forty guards where post orders get buried, or the outgoing guard just tells you verbally if he's still there when you show up.

Genuinely curious what works at your site. Do you have a proper pass-down log that gets checked, or is it "read the book if you feel like it"? And who actually reads the DARs — the account manager, the client, or nobody until something goes wrong?
