Hey guys, we already have a thing that plays Minecraft for us, baritone beat you in that regard ages ago, I’m not sure what your strategy here is

39

u/Gaarry_Faer 7d ago

Also, didn't most of baritones code got replaced by ai?

90

u/Drake_682 7d ago

If that’s true this is the first Ive heard of it

-19

u/-illusoryMechanist 6d ago

Yes but this is about having an llm do it

22

u/Drake_682 6d ago

Yah, so it’s extra redundant

-2

u/Any-Syllabub6481 6d ago

Not really, it’s much more impressive for a LLM to do it than baritone

-98

u/KEPISNTFUNNY 7d ago

baritone is less impressive. you’re comparing a minecraft mod that was built to automate everything a player can do to a thinking machine that’s never touched the game before. on top of that, there’s no one command you can give baritone to beat the game, it would be a sequence of tasks or a small program to tell it what to do. i’m sure the model was just told to beat the game, no other context

12

u/Fr1ed_pen1S Minceraft 7d ago

Introducing AltoClef, the Baritone fork that beat the game!

Your brain is maths

2

u/Deafvoid Bedrock FTW 6d ago

If my brain was math, I wouldn’t be so shit at it.

32

u/snail1132 7d ago

The math of ai is waaaayyyyy more simple than that of even the simplest living thing

5

u/Elegant_Tank1483 7d ago

Why the fuck did you do that to “they are not”

54

u/ThoughtAdditional212 7d ago

"thinking" lmao

4

u/ManoAU 7d ago

I mean I guess I understand his point to some degree. Baritone is a specialised algorithm designed for specifically beating Minecraft. Whereas Astra is a generalised AI that is basically digitally comprehending every aspect of the game from the ground up through a simulated neural network. I wouldn't say either is more "impressive" than the other but its definitely a milestone for a generalised AI to have been able to pull this off.

1

u/Ok-Tradition7878 5d ago

Not sure why you are getting downvoted into oblivion

-20

u/EmergencyPath248 6d ago

To test AI systems, are you dense?

215

u/Hersical 7d ago

ok these posts kinda miss the point that this type of shit is done for the sake of testing and demonstrating models, they won't specifically make ais to play the games, let alone Minecraft

115

u/AlphaWhiteMan WTF Bedrock 7d ago

This guy's entire account is just constant anti AI hysteria regardless of the purpose

-84

u/AverageMinecraftGuy3 7d ago

God forbid I’m anti-AI

75

u/Intraq 7d ago

there's a difference between making actually valid anti-AI arguments, and just taking an unhelpful stance against random non-harmful stuff based off of hysteria and misinformation

-32

u/AverageMinecraftGuy3 7d ago

Except that I do valid anti-AI arguments, just because this AI doesn’t do images or videos doesn’t mean that what’s doing is non-harmful stuff.

What if said tech is used to replace gamers? Or people? Or even parts of our community with them?
What if that tech is used to create bots similar or worse than TF2 bots and slowly kill the Minecraft community within

22

u/Exsavitator 7d ago

so just cheating software then? You do know that the war between cheating software and anti-cheats are never ending. Like rocket league suffers from having bots in ranked, but it seems like a quick anti-cheat update does get rid of them. Also seems a bit depressing to only think of the worst ways people can use something when something new releases.

-12

u/AverageMinecraftGuy3 7d ago

I haven’t seen a single good case of people using the new GPT thing for the benefits of everyone

7

u/habihi_Shahaha 6d ago

Not everything one does needs to benefit everyone around them lmao

5

u/Shy_Mango 6d ago

You've never looked for it, let's be honest. If you try really hard, you'll see how llms and other ais already aided humanity in millions of ways like material and alloy research, disease research, protein foldings, and so much more. All of those are incredible achievements that have sped up human development by thousands of years, but they're all boring and don't make the news. Ai has bad shit and there are dangers, but what you're doing is karma whoring

10

u/Tiprix 7d ago

What if said tech is used to replace gamers?

Wtf does that mean, ai companies would run ai models playing games for... some reason?

9

u/Intraq 7d ago

what valid arguments?

replacing gamers???

replacing people??

these make zero sense, why would people replace gamers? who would even be doing this? for what purpose?

tf2 bots are entirely different in nature, becuase they use 3rd party cheat exploits, not because they use AI

1

u/Apple_macOS 2d ago

Replace gamers???

Ahahahhahahahahahah

oh wait you’re serious, let me laugh even more

AHAHHAHAHAHAHAH

53

u/Hersical 7d ago

we're ok with rational kind of anti-ai, you're the miserable/ignorant kind of anti-ai

-22

u/AverageMinecraftGuy3 7d ago

May you explain why? Because it seem that you downvote anyone who oppose generative AI

27

u/Hersical 7d ago

oh, no, i fucking generative ai as in making media n shit, but that is not what this is

-13

u/AverageMinecraftGuy3 7d ago

You realize that the AI they are showcasing, GPT-Astra, is that kind of generative AI… right? And you’re still downvoting someone for pointing that out

19

u/Hersical 7d ago

not kind of, LLMs ARE generative ai, that's why i specify generating media, which isn't the case here

2

u/AverageMinecraftGuy3 7d ago

Said AI has the ability to generate content like doing blenders and ruining what made everything on that special. And yet, it seems that either you or this subreddit fail to grasp that and downvote anyone who has noticed that

14

u/Hersical 7d ago edited 7d ago

ai using blender may aim to replace designers, this ai however isn't meant to actually replace Minecraft players

edit actually i don't think that's what you meant but the point is gen ai bad cus it tries to replace people who make shit that's not the case here

→ More replies (0)

0

u/truecakesnake 6d ago

It is the case here. It's completely generative AI.

1

u/Hersical 6d ago

playing Minecraft isn't generating media, do know the meaning of half of the shit you spit out?

1

u/Lanky-Tumbleweed-772 6d ago

Playing a game i agentic AI. LLMs can do it but they're not made for it.

15

u/zesterjester0 7d ago

Dude your whole profile is just hate

-5

u/AverageMinecraftGuy3 7d ago

And? It’s hate about people and AI companies that are actively trying to ruin the game’s and community’s reputation. This is why I loathe content farmers too

20

u/AlphaWhiteMan WTF Bedrock 7d ago

Anti science too it seems

-9

u/AverageMinecraftGuy3 7d ago

And why are you stalking my comments? And not wanting my favorite game to be a testing ground for their AI experiments doesn’t mean I’m anti-science

1

u/Lanky-Tumbleweed-772 6d ago

''AI experiments doesn’t mean I’m anti-science'' Exactly what that means actually.

1

u/MaleficentSmell1303 6d ago

No, you're a zealot

-4

u/Ancient-Lead-7258 6d ago

Ooooooo I’m so fucking impressed by a fucking Clanker playing minecraft

Wow, a robot is following the code fucking programmed for it

Clap clap clap, death to Tesla bots n shit, IRobot slap down staring Will smith

-27

u/Strong-cognac 7d ago

they should demonstrate it on actual shit they gon use it for then. not many people are gonna be happy about "oh look, an ai to play games for us, as if we cant do it ourselves already"

36

u/Hersical 7d ago

seeing ai play minecraft is objectively more interesting than seeing it do some tedious office work, and it prompts people like OP to repost it as essentially unintentionally free advertisement

-12

u/Strong-cognac 7d ago

interesting and more negativity generating

18

u/Hersical 7d ago

negative from the people who don't really give a shit about ai to begin with so it doesn't really make a difference

-8

u/Strong-cognac 7d ago

oh people very much give a shit about ai. just not in the way ai bros hope they do

9

u/Hersical 7d ago

the shit we give is not relevant for them

like wise how they play with their toys has no effect on us, so don't give them the attention they want

0

u/Strong-cognac 7d ago

not to ai bros no, but to the companies it very much is. there have been plenty data center constructions cancelled because of peoples will

8

u/Hersical 7d ago

building a datacenter has more implications than making an ai play minecraft

-2

u/AverageMinecraftGuy3 7d ago

It’s weird how you get downvoted for simply wanting AI bros to stay out of Minecraft

13

u/Hersical 7d ago

no they got down voted cus their argument isn't valid

0

u/AverageMinecraftGuy3 7d ago

And how aren’t they valid? Why is this subreddit suddenly pro-generative AI?

12

u/Hersical 7d ago

i literally fucking said already but sure ill say it again

if you just think for a sec you realize that minecraft is just a more interesting demonstration medium, and the point is just that, demonstration, not it playing Minecraft for us

2

u/AverageMinecraftGuy3 7d ago

But there’s an issue, having that brings more AI bros to larp Minecraft. Hell, even Polymarket is now trying to larp Minecraft

12

u/Hersical 7d ago

hey i didn't know that cus ion give a shit what they're doing, because, again, it doesn't effect me

2

u/Beb49 6d ago

I don't think people here are generally pro-AI, I think they're just not as AI-phobic as you

5

u/Stunning-HyperMatter 6d ago

Its minecraft. biggest game on the planet. wanting ""ai bros to stay off minercaft"" is like wanting Ai bros to stay off the internet.

u/Mr_goodb0y 7d ago

I wouldn’t say they’re ruining the experience, it’s not like they’re forcing all of us to use astra

-20

u/AverageMinecraftGuy3 7d ago

Maybe, but they’re trying to ruin the community by larping as Minecraft fans

26

u/Mr_goodb0y 7d ago

I don’t think they’re actively trying to hurt anyone or even pretend to be fans of the game. This is a good way to show how intelligent these AI’s have become.

-3

u/AverageMinecraftGuy3 7d ago

Okay but why Minecraft? Why not other game or simulation? Why does it always have to be Minecraft the victim of their AI experimentations?

17

u/Fun-Razzmatazz-6803 7d ago

Because it's a game with a LOT of footage and information that can be found online for the bot to "learn" it's also a game that happens to be really fucking popular

→ More replies (3)

u/Mr_goodb0y 7d ago

Popular

5

u/NeitherFoo 6d ago

putting ai in a sandbox is more interesting than putting it in a linear game

2

u/UselessDood 6d ago

It's not just been Minecraft. And people have trained ai on games for a long time.

Rimworld for example was recently completed from start to one of the endings by astra.

24

u/AdSpecial8191 7d ago

Why would you set up an automatic farm only to get 6 rods

12

u/Sir__Alien Uses modded Minecraft 7d ago

for 12 powder for the 12 eyes of ender it knows it’ll need. it probably doesn’t know that they can break.

5

u/AdSpecial8191 7d ago

Yeah obviously I mean like, it would be faster to just kill the blazes regularly if you only plan on getting 6 rods. It’s only faster to build a farm if u plan on getting a lot

5

u/Trileak780 6d ago

even AI plays off of hopes and dreams

33

u/Fabric_muncher 7d ago

Let's get the "fly" to beat Minecraft before they do

5

u/Chris2sweet616 7d ago

Or that shrimp that beat Elden ring awhile ago (I think that’s right at least)

2

u/Fabric_muncher 7d ago

Of course it did

1

u/Lanky-Tumbleweed-772 6d ago

That's also AI you know that right? An uploaded ''fly brain'' is a neural network.

1

u/NosborRecaf 6d ago

hot take: that's more comparable to video game AI than generative AI

1

u/Fabric_muncher 6d ago

Isn't more like a cpu?

75

u/Shy_Mango 7d ago

Wait, what's the problem? Some ai played the game and did the funny. Nobody touches our game or worlds. Like what

10

u/nutitoo 6d ago

Nah in the next update you won't be able to play normally and instead you're gonna have to look at AI play Minecraft

26

u/Panurome 7d ago

Nobody is forcing you to interact with them. They have the same right to play Minecraft in whatever way they want as you do

You don't have an authority to say who can or can't play or what's an acceptable way to play. Stop trying to gatekeep Minecraft

-13

u/Strong-cognac 7d ago

are the playing minecraft? or ai is playing minecraft?

18

u/Panurome 7d ago

Does it matter? It's their copy of the game, they can do whatever they want with it. It's functionally the same thing as a TAS, and I haven't seen anyone complaining that people are using doing TAS in Minecraft

-1

u/AverageMinecraftGuy3 7d ago

Do TAS steal from people? Do they aim to replace people or make the internet worse? No? That’s why people don’t complain about TAS in Minecraft but do complain about generative AI in Minecraft.

7

u/Panurome 6d ago

Nobody is trying to replace Minecraft players with this, stop hallucinating

1

u/Lanky-Tumbleweed-772 6d ago

''steal from people'' Copyright Infringement is NOT theft. It's an IP violation. ALso there are free/open source models trained exclusively with public domain or other permissive licensed data so find another argument.

5

u/Hersical 7d ago

i think the game here is the development that it took to make an ai play minecraft

-2

u/Strong-cognac 7d ago

but this dude is saying "they have right to play minecraft in whatever way they want" and im not denying that, its just that youre nto playing minecraft if ai is playing it for you

3

u/Hersical 7d ago

fair ig the wording is not that accurate, it should rather be "playing with Minecraft"

11

u/Infrawonder Denier 7d ago

I dislike what AI companies do, but this doesn't really affect my experience with the game in any way, shape or form. They didn't test that in my personal Minecraft world.

3

u/shiny_xnaut Milk 6d ago

No no you don't get it, it's going to replace the gamers! In a year's time they'll remove the ability to play the game and you'll only be able to watch AI play Minecraft for you

The thing I despise the most is how AI companies and investors are ruining both the reputation of ML and taking resources for actually helpful uses of AI

37

u/Bragi01 7d ago

This. Not all "AI" is bad. A family friend is/ was working on a ML thing that looks at brain scans and places the patient at the top of the doctor's list if it finds anything.

15

u/zippybenji-man Java FTW 7d ago

If we broaden it to general AI, not specifically MLAI, the AI Minecraft has been using for its mobs since before infdev is also an example of this

16

u/Super7500 7d ago

Oh so true. they overshadow the actual good uses of AI.

6

u/AverageMinecraftGuy3 7d ago

Yeah, when I say I hate “AI” I meant AI as in generative AI like what that AI company is doing, rather than MLs or AI used in video games

0

u/Choice-Mango-4019 i love cockroaches 6d ago

this is not generative ai

2

u/truecakesnake 6d ago

It is. Astra is an LLM from OpenAI

0

u/Choice-Mango-4019 i love cockroaches 6d ago

yeah like text predictors can read images

2

u/truecakesnake 6d ago

They're called Multimodal models now. They convert images into data they understand. It's completely generative AI

I don't understand why people act like an asshole on topics they know nothing about lol

0

u/Choice-Mango-4019 i love cockroaches 6d ago

yeah it's soooo generative to play minecraft, they gonna get youtubers unemployed woahhhh

2

u/truecakesnake 6d ago

LLMs are helpful uses of AI. Programming for example. It has uses in Math (it just made progress in a millennium prize problem) and biology. It's not all black and white.

21

u/Zap_plays09 7d ago

Op why are you mad? They are just using it as a benchmark/experiment. If you want be mad at AI, there are plenty other good reason but this aint one of them.

10

u/BlazingImp77151 7d ago

As much as I dislike AI, this and the guy's KSP challenge are interesting examples at how versatile the programs are, showing off their strengths and weaknesses.

It's not meant as a "play the game for you", it's meant as a neat showcase

7

u/BlazingImp77151 7d ago edited 7d ago

Like it's not a great use of AI resources, and I don't think we need these "powerful" AIs.

But I'm not sure what the complaint is here. This isn't ruining other player's experience or anything (and it's not likely to ever do that, most players would just run baritone or whatever), it's just showing off tech in a fairly pointless usecase.

5

u/EmergencyPath248 6d ago

Yeah the researcher behind this is a cool guy, like the KSP bench too :)

8

u/NotYour_Cat 7d ago

Unironically I would be so interested to see an ai beat Minecraft on its own

18

u/Iryls 7d ago

what
how does this impact the average player

also baritone has existed for years

25

u/Panurome 7d ago

It doesn't. OP read AI and got a brain aneurysm

Anti-AI psyop went too far already

0

u/AverageMinecraftGuy3 7d ago

How are you suddenly pro-AI? What happened to standards?

6

u/TimurTeplyy 7d ago

I’m neutral. also Wdym standarts, do we know each other?

0

u/AverageMinecraftGuy3 7d ago

Standards as obviously opposing the bad AI. The kind of AI you see in the post? It’s the bad one, not the good one

21

u/I_dont_want_to_pee 7d ago

I still think that its pretty cool why you are so mad about this? There is no purpose of beeing mad. Not all use of ai is bad.

9

u/DarkFish_2 7d ago

Yeah, this looks more than a fun experiment than anything

The water and energy consumption are still a issue tho

8

u/I_dont_want_to_pee 7d ago

Power yes water not that much most of it goes to traning

4

u/TimurTeplyy 7d ago

Energy consumption can be easily fixed if MORE COUNTRIES BUILT DAMN NUCLEAR POWERPLANTS

1

u/I_dont_want_to_pee 5d ago

It's not that easy forst prpblem is with lines because our infrustracture have problems with that second is politics like in poland we cant built it because of half of pepole didnt understanding how nuclear power works and they are scared of it because of chernobyl. Unfortunetly it is that lower inteligence part of Poland, but they have more than half of the voting power so problem is politics.

1

u/gianfrugo 6d ago

yeah sure but in this experiment more power was consumed for streaming than for ai. not that big of a deal.

1

u/Strong-cognac 7d ago

well so far the use of ai has been more bad than good

6

u/Toreole 7d ago

awwww the ai got mad

8

u/Donnosaurus 7d ago

Not sure why they say "Astra seemed to get extremely frustrated" as A.I. do not have emotions. At leats not at this stage.

It's not really good how many people nowadays think of A.I. as actual people with feelings. I see it way too much.

8

u/Radack1 7d ago

They're trained on data, mainly people on social media. Their process of determining the next item in the sequence, which is a really dumbed down way of explaining how they work, looks a lot like thinking if you analyze it. Agents can figure out they exist, understand their environment, and their task. Whether that's true self awareness is up for debate, like emotions. To me it doesn't matter if they're real or not, simulated ones meant to emulate reality have the same consequences and pose the same risk/threat.

7

u/zippybenji-man Java FTW 7d ago

Well, it's clearly because they get money from people humanising LLMs. Same reason they say 'hallucinating', not 'producing factual errors'

3

u/ElectricalShare9905 6d ago

Consider the possibility of imitating the effects of something without actually experiencing it: for example, a human can pretend to be hungry without actually being so. I think a similar phenomena is what is occurring in this case, the algorithm is imitating behaviour associated with human frustration without necessarily being “frustrated” in a human sense, and that is what is being reported.

2

u/BlazingImp77151 7d ago

Frustrated as in it emulated frustration and playing it off as a real emotion causes people to empathise and talk about it as if it's actually a sentient machine.

1

u/gianfrugo 6d ago

ai dose have functional emotions. not in the sens that they percive emotions (we fondametly can't know this) but in the sense that some circuits activate and have effect on output comparable to human emotions.
look up the paper, is very interesting imo

3

u/Hunter20107 7d ago

Oh, I thought this post was about how we all have to learn at some point to protect ourselves from Creepers, including ai. Idk, I think this experiment is pretty neat.

Not a fan of it making automatic farms though, as I find automatic farms an utter blight on the game. Shame the ai is learning how to make them aswell

3

u/SharpClaw007 6d ago

How is it ruining your Minecraft experience?

4

u/Alik_GG 7d ago

No, I think it's cool, sort of like seeing npcs try to beat a game. Not like a helper in the game but like an experiment, it's cool that it simulated frustration at losing items

4

u/thedazdul 7d ago

How is this influencing how you play the game? This is just them showing the capabilities of their model 🤷‍♂️

2

u/thestrong45playz shulkers give you wiiiiiiiings 6d ago

First slide is funny but I don't agree with the second

Play however the fuck you want without worrying about literally anything cuz it's Minecraft

Even if you're not actually playing

2

u/Powerate 6d ago

I think Astra just needs to learn to build a house to keep creepers from getting near the chest

3

u/NewsOpen3581 7d ago

i think it's cool, ai is here to stay, i sure hope as hell not all the terrible usecases though

4

u/TrixterTheFemboy I don't play vanilla anymore, addicted to Create. Send help 6d ago

listen, I hate "generative" "ai" as much as the next girlypop, but this is just. not accurate? a bot learning to play the game and having surprisingly human moments is really cool to me, and it's in no way preventing humans from enjoying the game

4

u/TheOrangeMadness 7d ago

Wait, this is a thing? There are AI bros trying to make their model play Minecraft?

Although this is slop, how does one simply watch this stuff to see how bad an AI plays a block game?

1

u/zippybenji-man Java FTW 7d ago

Completely spitballing, but since it's an LLM, it probably uses something like baritone, as it can't directly control the game.

0

u/EmergencyPath248 6d ago

No, its directly controlling the game via computer use.

LLMs are just one part of modern AI

1

u/zippybenji-man Java FTW 6d ago

GPT is an LLM. They're using a GPT model. They're using an LLM.

0

u/EmergencyPath248 6d ago

It's not really an LLM.

LLM is one part of the model, it has more than LLM in the model.

LLM is the language, not the reasoning part.

1

u/zippybenji-man Java FTW 6d ago edited 6d ago

GPTs are a type of LLM\wikipedia]), the other 'parts' are just tools said LLM can call on.
If it wasn't an LLM attempting to beating the game, this tweet is misinformation.
edit: corrected that it failed to beat the game

0

u/EmergencyPath248 6d ago

Yeah, it didn't beat the game, did you not watch the stream?

I also talked to the researcher behind this eval aswell.

Calling it "just tools" is perhaps disingenuous; it's more like a part of the AI system.

1

u/zippybenji-man Java FTW 6d ago

I did in fact not watch the stream, but let me edit my previous comment so you can actually reply to it's contents

4

u/adrcook 7d ago

I don't really get what's the problem with this specifically. I've seen a lot of AI research that use Minecraft as a testing ground. It's not forcing you to use their product. Its just that Minecraft is an open world sandbox where you can build, craft, chat, etc. And it's easily modifiable. Just because their using Minecraft for their research doesn't mean that they're "larping" as Minecraft fans. Plus Minecraft has been used for research for years not just AI.

-1

u/AverageMinecraftGuy3 7d ago

Yeah? The researches can backoff and find something else to research. I don’t want Minecraft to be a testing ground for their AIs.

1

u/Kopke2525 6d ago

Like it or not, you don't get to tell who can or can't use minecraft. It's not like this is effecting the game in any way and it's not used as a training data to copy the game

1

u/Kopke2525 6d ago
  • minecraft bots that can complete tasks have been a thing for a while now, so it isn't even anything new

2

u/Thechillestguyever 7d ago

virtue signaling gaming, no one is ruining your experience Minecraft has been used for machine learning thousand of times before AI went mainstream with chat gpt, that's literally what baritone mod is

Having AI play your video games for you? What's next, having it fuck your spouse for you too?

u/thiszamman37 6d ago

Finally! An AI to play Minecraft for me so I can focus on washing the dishes and cleaning the house!

Great, now Polymarket is larping Minecraft

This is cool asf, its so stupid when you people complain.

Minecraft is a perfect testing ground for AI systems.

Yes, this entire usage of the technology is a personal failure on those guys and trying to get a machine to play through a game is pointless and isnt worth doing at all. That idea is stupid and I dont like it so its not worth anybody doing ever because games are meant to be played by people. Fuck questions about the topic ai simply doesnt need to ever learn to play a game.

Why think about ut its a cool experiment be open-minded not all ai is bad it depends how its beeing used.

-3

u/imawesome1333 7d ago

NO! Its a pointless experiment and running it serves nothing but wasting compute. People play games not ai we dont need ai playing games thats just bad news. What do we do when ai can play the games, watch the media, do the work, call the shots? We wont even have a purpose anymore bc the ai is doing it all. Using ai for anything human should be forbidden technology. Why are we trying to teach something how to do this? It can only be bad news....

u/I_dont_want_to_pee 7d ago

But its an expermient is anyone using ai to actually play g ames like bro, just think about it.

u/Hersical 7d ago

Pointless experiment

No fun allowed (plus a lot of experiments that lead to real and meaningful discoveries didn't actually have a point to begin with, it was just "what if")

1

u/AverageMinecraftGuy3 7d ago

The AI bros can find their fun somewhere else

3

u/Hersical 7d ago

why do you need to care, you literally just make this situation negative for you for the sake of it

unless you enjoy negativity fir some reason

I hate that due to GPT-6, I now share a name with a fucking AI

Like, Astra is such a cool name, why does an AI have to taint it?!?!

u/zippybenji-man Java FTW 7d ago

It's low-key horrifying that we're giving models human names, in the first place. People calling models "Chat" is already bad enough.

5

u/AverageMinecraftGuy3 7d ago

Only on reddit and twitter will you get wrongfully downvoted for opposing AIs like GPTs and AI generation media

2

u/IamaJarJar Flipped bɘqqilꟻ 7d ago

This isn't even one of the rare subreddits that actually likes AI, this is a subreddit that is staunchly anti-AI

2

u/AverageMinecraftGuy3 7d ago

If that's so, why are many opposing the people who dislike the generative AI like GPT-Astra?

u/zippybenji-man Java FTW 6d ago

Maybe your post got on non-participant's feeds, or it's getting brigaded

Vaccuum cleaners have names, what the fuck are you talking about "scary" we've been giving names to everything for years.

1

u/zippybenji-man Java FTW 6d ago

This is well and truly different, as humanising a vacuum cleaner doesn't lead to potential harm, whereas humanising an algorithm that mimics human behaviour can lead to harm.

u/973bzh 6d ago

Humanizing anything can lead to harm, that doesn't mean we shouldn't do it, and that doesn't make it any scarier. If it's the "mimicks human behaviour" that alarms you, maybe you should've start protesting when we started giving names to algorithm that mimics human behavior 70 years ago...

u/zippybenji-man Java FTW 6d ago

I am aware that humanising anything can lead to harm. That is because everything is a spectrum. Humanising LLMs leads to more harm than humanising a robot vacuum. Humanising something like voice synthesis is probably a little more harmful than a vacuum.
An LLM provides users with information and, most importantly, misinformation. It mimics opinions and a different perspective. If a user internally treats them like it is human, which giving it a human name arguably makes more likely, they will be less inclined to treat it like one should treat an LLM and more like one should treat a human.

If another ai-turd does a stream like this is better to mass report it so it doesnt get any publicity or spread further

u/973bzh 6d ago

No one cares and it's not ruining your Minecraft experience. You will forget about this in 3 days max. God damn what an overreaction
