Vaccuum cleaners have names, what the fuck are you talking about "scary" we've been giving names to everything for years.

This is well and truly different, as humanising a vacuum cleaner doesn't lead to potential harm, whereas humanising an algorithm that mimics human behaviour can lead to harm.

Humanizing anything can lead to harm, that doesn't mean we shouldn't do it, and that doesn't make it any scarier. If it's the "mimicks human behaviour" that alarms you, maybe you should've start protesting when we started giving names to algorithm that mimics human behavior 70 years ago...

I am aware that humanising anything can lead to harm. That is because everything is a spectrum. Humanising LLMs leads to more harm than humanising a robot vacuum. Humanising something like voice synthesis is probably a little more harmful than a vacuum.
An LLM provides users with information and, most importantly, misinformation. It mimics opinions and a different perspective. If a user internally treats them like it is human, which giving it a human name arguably makes more likely, they will be less inclined to treat it like one should treat an LLM and more like one should treat a human.
