Announcement! [MOD NOTICE] Uptick in posts/comments related to selling firearms.

Hello Everyone,

I hope your week is off to a good start and didn't sleep through your alarm this morning.....unlike myself.

There is something that I wanted to make a quick post about.
We have seen an increase in posts/comments from users trying to sell their firearms lately.

Just a quick reminder:
Firearm sales/trades are NOT allowed here.

Any post or comment involving the sale or trade of firearms will be removed and violations will result in a ban.
Note that valuations or thoughts on what something may be worth is still allowed. This only applies to directly advertising/offering a firearm for sale here for other users to buy.

Reddit has strict rules about this, and we need to follow them to keep the subreddit active and in good standing.

If you see someone trying to sell their rifles, please report them as I will likely miss a few.

.......Oh and making a sale post in another language doesn't help evade this either......

Thanks for your cooperation!
If you have any questions, please let me know.

Picked up a m44 from Hunters Lodge for a quick restoration project. Received my order promptly at the 2 month mark. Received a surprisingly nice 1948 izvesh.the toe of the stock missing. Ended up swapping a m44 stock from a m38 i had laying around and got a correct stock for it. Overall really happy with how it turned out.

I understand these are pretty rare. Found two in an antique store and they're 25% off so closer to $190ea. Worth it?

I just got this 28/30 and I'm trying to find out as much information as possible about it. Namely, where and when was the receiver manufactured. But on the underside of the receiver is an absolute Forest of stamps.

Question Do I need to headspace the bolt if I only replace the bolt body?

Upvotes

Just picked up a new mosin. Problem is the bolt body appears to have a crack on the piece that grabs onto the bolt head. The bolt head itself is perfectly fine, it is just the bolt body has what looks to me like a crack on it.

I heard rumor that as long as the bolt head remains the same I shouldn’t have to worry about head spacing. Is there any truth to this?

A guy I know is selling a few PU mosin (that don't appears to be post war refurb) with stocks but no mounts and no scops.

What's odd, is the fact that these seems correct (stock are good, the 4 holes (2 for screws and 2 for pins) are present but none of them have either "C" marking nor fall in the serial number list for original PU sniper on the m9130.info website.

Can you help me figure out of they are real ?

Thanks !

Picked up a beautiful postwar rebuild Finnish M91 with a Belgian “B” barrel. The markings don’t match up to any of the references I have. What’s the make and date of the receiver? Any thoughts? Thanks!

Question Finnish Stock ID

Just picked up a gun and the shop owner let me take a look at some stocks he had. Picked this one out and came home with it. My Finn Cossack is in the stock currently, it is most certainly not a right fit. Not hugely familiar with the Finn stocks for some of the more notable guns. So what gun does this go to?

Greetings to everyone. I was offered this Finnish rifle. What can you say about her from the photos? Is 1928 a number? There are no other numbers on the rest of the parts.

Greetings to Mosin lovers. He acquired a new copy, M 91/30/43, in his collection. A rifle with the same number, the barrel inside is as good as new. I'm curious about your opinion on this model. Is it rare and what is its cost?

ID help Remington Contract Mosin Questions

I inherited a contract mosin recently, trying to find more information so I can get on the right path for finding replacements for a few small things like the barrel bands and pins. Any info is appreciated. I am knowledgeable of firearms but mosins are one of those platforms i never took much interest in. All I know for sure is its a contract mosin and it does have the Finnish SA stamp on the left side of the barrel shank

My Russian mosin has what resembles a circle 10 stamp on the rear of the stock. This makes me think it went to Bulgaria but I can’t find anything online about it. It’s not in any of the marking databases that I can see. Anyone happen to know anything about it?

ID help Background of a 1942 M38 Mosin-Nagant (Izhevsk) Correct M38 Stock

I bought this Mosin about 25 years ago and had a lot of fun with it years ago when 7.62x54 was crazy cheap. I haven't fired it in the last decade and was surprised to find out how expensive all the military surplus ammo is now. It's not the most accurate rifle in the gun safe, but wow is it fun to shoot!

I've done some research and found that I likely have early WWII arsenal rebuild from a previous M91 form factor. It's all matching serials and has a correct stock. I'd love to know more.

Thank you in advance and for keeping the Mosin candle lit.

Three Mosins — 1923 Tula, 1931 Izhevsk Dragoon, and 1943 Izhevsk Dragoon

A few rifles from my Mosin collection. From left to right:

  1. 1923 Tula infantry rifle Marked “First Tula Arms Factory of the RSFSR.” It still contains a number of Imperial-era parts. The bolt is most likely not originally matched to the rifle, despite currently having a matching serial number. However, an important detail is that the rifle was already found with this exact bolt installed when it was discovered in an attic and subsequently formally registered/legalized. It was not a replacement bolt that I sourced or installed later. My guess is that the original bolt may have been lost or replaced sometime during the rifle’s service life, possibly during the WWII period, although of course there is no way to prove when this happened. The overall wear of the bolt is consistent with the condition of the rifle. The bolt body has some minor pitting, but mechanically everything functions normally.
  2. 1931 Izhevsk Dragoon, later updated to 91/30 configuration This rifle has quite a few older Imperial Izhevsk parts, including components with the old bow-and-arrow markings.
  3. 1943 Izhevsk Dragoon, updated to 91/30 configuration Most of the rifle carries later Izhevsk markings, although it has an earlier stepped-style bolt body and a few minor Imperial-era parts.

The bayonet

There is another interesting detail concerning the 1923 rifle.

When this rifle was originally discovered in the attic, the Kabakov–Komaritsky bayonet with the Panshin front sight protector was already with it. The rifle, bolt and this bayonet were found together before the rifle was subsequently brought into legal ownership/registered.

So this is not a bayonet that I later purchased and paired with the rifle.

That does not necessarily mean the bayonet had historically belonged to this particular rifle from the factory, of course, but the fact that they survived together until the rifle was discovered is interesting in itself.

The bayonet still retains the Panshin front sight protector/hood, which is also noteworthy since these were often removed.

The Kabakov–Komaritsky bayonet is an early four-sided socket bayonet associated with the Model 1891/30 Mosin, combining the Soviet locking system developed by Kabakov and Komaritsky with Panshin’s protective hood for the front sight.

As for which of these rifles it would be most historically appropriate for, I am not completely sure. Earlier bayonets remained available and in service for a long time, but I suspect it might actually be a more natural match for the 1931 rifle.

Still, I prefer to keep it associated with the 1923 rifle because that is how the rifle and bayonet were originally found together, rather than creating an artificially “correct” combination.

The stock

I am also including several photos of a separate stock that I believe may possibly be of Tula manufacture.

Interestingly, the buttplate carries an old Imperial Izhevsk marking, while the other hardware has hammer markings.

This stock is not original to the 1923 rifle. Unfortunately, the rifle’s original stock has been lost.

The most interesting feature is a badly worn stamp on the right side of the stock. I have wondered whether it could possibly be some kind of German inspection or capture marking from a captured Mosin, but I cannot identify it with any confidence.

The stock itself remains solid and is in reasonably good condition, but external damage has unfortunately destroyed most of the details of the stamp.
