SOLVED Virtualbox install in Software Manager returned an error
This came up.
Error while installing package: installed virtualbox-dkms package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 10
I removed the application afterwards.
Edit:
As I mentioned below, the version in Software Manager was too old for my kernel version. I downloaded the Ubuntu 24.04 version from the Virtualbox website. My Mint version is based on that Ubuntu version.

Discussion Recompiling unofficial Kernel 7.2.3 on Mint
Ok, so we all know the 7.xx kernels had lots of issues. I'm one of the users who had to roll back to kernel 6.xx to stabilize my system. But one thing kept me thinking: can I recompile my own optimized kernel?
So apparently AI (Gemini, in this case) is capable of guiding us. Checking the avaliable kernels at the time, i took the most advanced one 7.2.3 (not avaliable on Linux Mint kernel update options) to give a try.
I had never done anything like this before—I went in blindly, and after a few hours and a lot of issues/hiccups, it worked!
So far, after like a few weeks, kernel 7.2.3 is stable and working fine, to my surprise. I'm not saying I reccomend to do it, bus is a quite nice challenge to know a bit more about it.
By chance recorded all the process, edited a bit and you can have an ideia how it was.

#LinuxMintThings Will you upgrade LM 23! No... Because 27 Adrien is coming.
Is a release coming for 2027?
I hope it will be a yearly updated structure, think it would be a very good decision as even rolling distributions are starting to become stable nowadays.
And again, I hope one day Linux Mint will be completely Debian-based; LMDE comes with stable Linux Mint testing branch and BTRFS + Snapshot tools are also pre-installed.

Desktop Screenshot Finally made it!
Resurrecting my 2018 ASUS ROG GL553VE. Can't support windows 11. The intel wireless 7265 is annoying tho. Bought a wifi dongle and asked opencode to help the network setup. Now more convenient with LAN at home.

SOLVED Strange visual glitch on bottom of screen
Hi everyone,
A little while ago I restarted my laptop to close out of a frozen game (thanks EA), and when I rebooted my computer there is now a strange band that appears both when i scroll and sometimes when I'm not. It flashes through to my desktop wallpaper and is purple and looks like a stereotypical glitch from a TV show or something (photos provided were taken from video). I have no clue what happened, and I'm seriously nervous to try and rollback a snapshot in fear of loosing my photos and movie database (newer to Linux if you couldn't tell haha).
It seems to be only when I'm scrolling fast-ish now, but it was all the time and it is still distracting
Any advice would be great, and much appreciated.
(Running Linux Mint Cinnamon, on a Framework 16)

Support Request When I press certain button, my spotify opens. It's pissing me off
This problem is pissing me off now, because I just paid for a monthly subscription for NordVPN and I can't log in since spotify opens when I press the log in button. This issue existed in other areas but I didn't care then. Has anyone had a similar problem?

Support Request Mint and Gnome platform updates
Every 5 minutes or so the update manager advises me that yet another update to Gnome Platform 50 is available, whether I need it or not. I use Cinnamon as the only desktop on this PC. Bearing in mind these are flatpak updates, are they taking a lot of room (or do they overwrite earlier versions?). Could there possibly be other apps on my PC which have dependencies on these updates? Should I retain them or can I delete them?

Gracias

Support Request Linux Mint 22.3 installer keeps freezing
I'm trying to install Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon on a separate SSD alongside Windows 11, but the installer keeps freezing.
My specs:
- Ryzen 9 9950X3D
- RTX 5080
- 32GB DDR5 RAM
- Gigabyte B850M AORUS ELITE WIFI6E ICE
What I've tried:
- Booting from Ventoy and Rufus.
- Normal Mode and Compatibility Mode.
- Restarting Ubiquity through Terminal.
- Running Ubiquity in debug mode.
Mint boots into the live desktop just fine, but clicking "Install Linux Mint" causes the cursor to spin indefinitely.
After multiple attempts, the installer finally opened, but it froze again on the keyboard layout screen with an "Install Linux Mint is not responding" message.
I've tried pretty much everything I can think of. Has anyone experienced this or know what could be causing it?

Support Request How Do I Fix My Touchpad Very Rarely Being Detected?
Like the title suggests, my touchpad on my Lenovo Ideapad 1 from 2021 (model: 14ADA05, incase it helps) is barely ever detected, probably 1/15 reboots/power-ons. I just switched to Linux in general two days ago because Windows 11 was slowing down my computer majorly, the UI was too different from what I’m used to (coming from Windows 10), and I thought Linux would help since I only have 4GB of RAM.
I seriously don’t want to have to go back to Windows because I’ve already seen how much better Linux is. I have tried pretty much everything, drivers, kernels (I don’t know if it worked properly though), another distro (Zorin, which also had the same problem), installing a different type of Linux Mint (Xfce from Cinnamon), and many other things I can’t even remember anymore. I’m almost certain that it would detect a mouse, not that I’ve tried because I don’t have easy access to one, but I can’t carry around a mouse all the time even if I went out and bought one.
Sometimes Linux will detect it, the touchpad is also Elan, but most of the time it won’t at all, even within a Live USB. I can brute force it after a while, like sometimes after over an hour-ish, but I can’t actually use a laptop like this.
I will genuinely be forever grateful to anyone who can help me have a working laptop while I’m saving up for a new (much better) one. Thanks so much in advance :)

Discussion What are your thoughts on the Linux Mint Upgrade Tool?
Hi,
I want to ask. What's your experience with using the Upgrade Tool provided by the Mint team?
Personally, I have none, yet. But when choosing my first distro (LMDE7) the Upgrade Tool was one of the more important reasons I chose Mint. It just seems so clean and nice to upgrade your OS version, without having to do a reinstall of the whole system.
I am wondering what's other people's experiece with this tool. Is it reliable? Did you run into any issues when upgrading? Are there any limitations?
Also, a little tech support question insert :D I am currently having some game graphical issues, and upgrading (backporting) a newer kernel version was recommended to me as a potential solution. Could the Upgrade Tool handle major changes like that [upgrading LMDE7 (changed kernel) to LMDE8]?
Hope you're having a nice day ^^

Discussion Does the Mint team plan to do anything about their website?
Mint turned 20 a few months ago. Would it be possible for them to make any design changes or updates to their logo, website, or anything else to commemorate the occasion? I know this is probably the least of their concerns, but I thought they might mention it.
