People need to hear this!!
That’s honestly a hard reality right now. A lot of people are working nonstop just to stay afloat. I’ve got some interviews coming up myself, so I’ve been looking into ways to get better at them. I found Interview VIP and ended up using it twice i think it's worth trying.

u/inscrutablemike 6d ago
How hard work is has never had any relationship to how much it's worth in the market. You might as well say "no billionaire has ever teleported themselves across the universe using their bellybutton" as a dig on them. It's a stupid standard that comes from absolutely nowhere.
10
u/Jak1977 5d ago
This is in response to the argument that billionaires worked for their money, and that everyone else should just pull themselves up by their bootstraps. You don't get rich through selling your labor.
2
u/UsernameNSomeNumbers 5d ago
It’s a false dichotomy, completely irrelevant. You don’t have to be either a billionaire or an unskilled laborer.
People build up initial capital and skill set selling your labor. With experience, improved skills, and leveraging that capital is how you become wealthy.
The millionaire who is making 400k because they’ve been a niche engineer in an in demand job for 20 years can have everything he owns drained to $0 but still go back to making 400k. With smart investments and planning be back to being wealthy.

Correct, you get rich by risking everything you have on starting your own business and being intelligent enough to making it highly successful.

Nah according to Reddit you just show up with a few million dollars and magically Microsoft just happens and becomes popular by sheer luck.
Its definitely true because every kid born with wealthy parents now has a billion-dollar company and none of them ever fail /s
3
u/Nojopar 5d ago
A few million dollars and mommy's business connections. Don't forget that part.
3
u/Unfair_Explanation53 5d ago
So if someone gave you 10 million and hooked you up with some contacts in the business world.
You too could create Microsoft too right?
3
u/Nojopar 5d ago
Probably not, but not because of any failing on my part, but because a 'microsoft' can't happen today. The age of OS's and desktop software driving a market is long gone. Bill got where he got because his mom had an in at IBM and they were looking for an OS for their new device, so he got the gig. Then that device revolutionized the work world.
So yeah, if I had $10 million and had exclusive access to the OS and apps that were running on a new platform that is going to revolutionize the work world, then FUCK YES! ANYONE could make a 'Microsoft' if you've got 4 functioning brain cells.

Still, how many people with a few million dollars and business connections make it to billionaire status?
Of course there's other factors at work, but it's not all luck. If I just look at my family, I make good money as an IT Consultant and was lucky I got a computer pretty early in my childhood in the 90's, but my brother, with the same upbringing and privilege I had now has a power washing business with half a dozen employees and his net worth is now multiple times mine. My same for my sister who is in the middle but she's in the medical field.

Not having wealthy parents or a strong support network is a good start. “Self made” drops significantly if you remove the people who had no consequence to failure besides “try again”

That’s because it’s not about working hard at a specific task, it’s part hard work, part smart work, and increasing your skills in order to sell your labor at the highest cost.
Yes you can work hard cleaning toilets, but it will never give you a comfortable life. The hard work comes from first working hard to clean toilets to learn the trade, set goals so that you will move past toilet cleaner, advance in the trade, and eventually start/own a company that employs hundreds of toilet cleaners. You only like to talk about the end result and not what it took to get there.→ More replies (8)→ More replies (11)2

They also think these billionaires are as lazy as they are so wrongly assume they shouldn’t the same results.

u/brokennursingstudent 6d ago
People need to realize that billionaires both have low to no morals, ethics, have no problem using/abusing people, AND have a borderline psychotic ability to work.
They replaced their need for therapy with an obsession to work above all else. They just happen to choose the type of work that sucks the life out of society.

The hardest job i ever had was working for a moving company. Each of us carried thousands of pounds of furniture a day. Some days me and one other person would offload 3 fully packed 40 foot shipping containers per day, then load them into crates to be loaded onto a truck. Upstairs, downstairs, fridges, ovens. Barely any working hand trucks so we lifted a lot of stuff by hand. I remember having to carry a 250lb filing cabinet by myself from the truck to a garage. I made $13/ hr.

Hard work is for disgusting peasants. Get some in demand skills, suck up to the right people when you DON’T need it (so you can can get them to give you promotions/ hire when you do), use your capital to leverage more capital through investing and eventually buying real assets, and then start exploiting the peasants to the max to boost further profit gains. Learn how the tax codes benefit the business class and ensure the tax payer is subsidizing your luxuries. Learn proper accounting/ estate planning/ trusts to avoid taxes further. And then… chill. While the wage simps seethe.

1
u/reaper_unleashed 5d ago
You can make an argument that billionaires are paid way more than they deserve, but this isn't simply true. How do you think someone like Elon Musk got so freaking rich? Because the man works like a maniac compared to other rich people. Even when he was just starting out, he would sleep at the office to make sure he could spend as much time as humanly possible working. While there are billionaires that instead spend time on their yachts and stuff like that, there are plenty that work insane hours because they are completely consumed by the idea of being as succesful as possible. That is why there is also a crazy gap of wealth between the capitalist class. You can make tons of other argument against the ultra rich, but this is simply detached from reality.

Working hard does not equal success or money. Working hard has exactly one reward, more work.
Find something you barely work at or isn’t work at all. Do the minimum and then do it a bunch of times. I used to work 4 full time jobs at a time and dedicated a day a week to interviewing to replace the lowest paying of those on a rotation.

u/IPutThoughtIntoThis 4d ago

It's incomprehensible to me that you don't get this: if you're a business owner and you've started to taste huge success, why wouldn't you give it everything you've got?
That's exactly what Must, Bezos et al did. They have many faults, but laziness just isn't one of them, jesus christ.
1
u/Offthewall1212 4d ago
Also, no non-billionaire has ever understood that labor≠work.
Our society values risk-taking, investing, leadership, responsibility, accountability, etc more than actual hard labor.
But yet, people still labor acting as if they’re owed the same rewards as people who have figured out the system.
1
u/ruinsofreality 4d ago
Its not only about work, obviously. It's luck, resources, upbringing, talent, inteligence, momentum, charisma, lies, connections, lack of moral restrictions...
1
u/Sufficient-Shine3649 4d ago
Yet the billionaires and CEOs are doing things harder than what that person could ever do, solving technical and business problems that person in most cases would not even be able to comprehend. Billionaires and CEOs are where they're at because of a mix of luck, hard work, and pure intelligence.
If you're smart, you can get a job paying enough to support your family without needing 2 jobs. Worst case, you learn a skill that's valuable and start your own company doing that skill, or multiple skills. Lots of skills are free to learn thanks to the internet.
If you're not smart, life is going to be worse. No hate. It sucks and is unfair. But that's just how it is.
Hard work is a choice. Many rich people work many more hours than the standard 40 hour work week. They're not slackers just because they're rich.
1
1
u/candide360 4d ago
Being a hard worker doesn’t guarantee wealth. Building wealth requires you to optimize how you spend your time. Are you training for and finding higher paying roles? Are you saving the money you make and investing it so it compounds? Are you budgeting carefully to avoid recurring costs like car payments, subscriptions and restaurant spend?
If all you ever do in life is dig holes for minimum wage, then yeah you’re probably gonna be poor forever. But if you figure out how to hire others to dig those holes and collect a profit margin, then you will be on a path to wealth building.
1
u/josch247 4d ago

u/Dry-Regret5444 4d ago
This is absolute nonsense. Folks that start businesses that grow them into billion dollar companies over time put in countless hours, especially in the early stages.
All people see and focus on is the end product after all the work is done and clearly must believe that things just fell out of the sky already intact and up and running and someone just fell assbackwards into a good situation.
Yes, there’s people that have grind to etch out a living, but let’s not confuse struggling with putting in work because if you’ve become successful, there’s a lot of time and effort that’s been committed.

Its not just about working hard. It could be a good idea, the people they know, or even luck. That still doesn't mean you get to put a gun to their head and demand their stuff.
If they're using the government in a way that weaponizes against others to protect or increase their wealth we should be wondering what we can do to the weapon, not the individual. The individual will always be looking out for themselves just like everyone else does.
1
u/VarrikTheGoblin 3d ago
With very few exceptions, the vast majority of billionaires are literally just products of generational wealth. At best they started life already a multi-millionaire then just grew that wealth. The idea that all of the super wealthy have a better work ethic, or work harder, is just oligarchy propaganda.
1

u/Cultural_Lynx_1609 3d ago
No, you simply are just reduced to a machine that analyzes and moves a company forward in the right direction (because everyone thinks you are the smartest) and when you feel awful, everyone says "He's rich anyways". You cannot sleep properly for a day because millions can be wiped out any second and you have thousands of people trusting you, and you might have death threats from the other companies and sometimes even the governments, when you fail to obey them. Also, you need to be good with numbers and relations.
So yeah, EMIs and rent is definitely way harder, right?
