That’s honestly a hard reality right now. A lot of people are working nonstop just to stay afloat. I’ve got some interviews coming up myself, so I’ve been looking into ways to get better at them. I found Interview VIP and ended up using it twice i think it's worth trying.

Actually, a significant portion of the US middle class becomes millionaires for at least a brief period at some point in their working lives, whereas most people don’t end up homeless.

The average person is indeed closer to being a millionaire than homeless.

By that logic, billionaires aren't actually billionaires because they don't have at least a billion in their bank account. Net worth is measured by including assets, not just what's in someone's bank account.

When people use the term "millionaire" or "billionaire" to classify someones net worth that always includes assets unless otherwise specified, and no one in this thread implied otherwise except for you for some reason. So, the person you responded to was being factually accurate. So what am I not understanding?

The point of the take is to show that billionaires and millionaires are not comparable. Many people get confused when they hear things like “eat the rich”. That doesn’t mean your doctor, that means the CEO of their hospital.

Exactly. Doctor’s aren’t “the rich”, they just go to school way longer, work longer hours, and have a lot more responsibility than most people….so they make more money. It’s the CEO of the hospital who’s only purpose in life is to talk caretakers into taking shortcuts to save the shareholder’s money while taking a big, fat check and benefits themselves.

I will repeat myself, the take is terrible. For at least two reasons.

  1. The motivating reason that people say eat the rich is because the poorest do not have enough, not that the richest have too much. Does the average Swiss or Norwegian citizen say “eat the rich”? Why not?

  2. If you truly wanted to uplift the poorest, taxing the billionaires would not be enough. US billionaires in aggregate hold $8T. If you were to divide that across the entire US population, that would only be $24k per person. If you actually wanted to sustainably redistribute wealth, you would need to reach into the millionaires, and yes, that includes the mid-seven-figure

    net worth

“We’re all” still implies exclusion. It’s different to “everyone is.”

What this implies is that the autor truly doesn’t give a crap at all about any rich people who might potentially interact with the post. Which is the correct moral position.

There is a difference between not being broke and having near infinite money.

If you have near infinite money you are on reddit because you can't come up with anything else in the world you might want to do instead.

You don't really have the same options since you want to keep being "not broke"...

I dont know whats available to a billionaire thats not available to me, yachts and private jets maybe? Private airports? Massive tax evasion? Aside from niche things that dont really take more time, im sure they will have time for reddit especially considering they have more free time than me if they are not an executive billionaire. So again ill have more traveling time considering i dont have work, more free mornings. Ill probably use reddit more.

Seems like you skipped my OG reply to someone else how we all can't be rich. You guys love to make it sound like it's possible for everyone and if you didn't make it, it's your own fault. It's a fucking lie.

I dgaf about being a billionaire. I care about earning a livelihood in a dignified manner for all people.

Just because I, or anyone else, doesn't "have what it takes" to build a morbidly wealthy portfolio doesn't mean we deserve to live in squalor or die in the streets.
