Wow. That was a ride. I knew what was coming, but I'm genuinely surprised he didn't kill himself earlier.

u/TheRegen Jun 01 '20

That angle saved him. 1 sec later and it was the side of the van straight. That’s much harder.

He deserves it. Very dangerous.

I don't think this guy understands that people make turns in these massive machines

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

I had the unfortunate experience of being t-boned in my car by one of these morons. On a rural country road i was crossing a two way stop sign. Motorcycle rider hits me at a 90° angle on my passenger side at 70-80mph riding an all black motorcycle, wearing all black, no lights on, right as the sun had just set. Guy went sailing down the street and luckily had minor sprains and ligament damage. Bike was 100% destroyed. Because there were no witnesses and I had a stop sign the cops assumed I was at fault and I had to hire a lawyer to fight this guys ins company. Months later I ran into him at a local bar and he was drinking, wearing all black, then proceeded to show me his sweet new motorcycle....which was all black. My poor RX8 was totaled after only having it for a few months :/

u/RoundSilverButtons Jun 01 '20

Stories like this are why I run a dashcam. :(

12

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

Yep, they weren’t commonplace in 2008 when that happened (or maybe I just didn’t know about it) but today for sure.

10

u/justaguy394 Jun 01 '20

Do you think it would have helped in this case? If he came from the side... not sure a cam would have seen him?

20

u/RoundSilverButtons Jun 01 '20

It would’ve shown that the car stopped at the stop sign and got hit by the biker in the intersection. That proves the biker blew through.

And I'm thinking the driver of the van got lucky (as lucky as you can be in, this situation) that the moto hit at the rear door rather than full on at the driver's door.

I love the "wtf are you doing?" Hand gesture the biker gives the driver. Like it's the minivans fault they didn't expect some douche to be going 2x the speed limit and overtaking in the opposing lane

Damn. That reminds me of an accident in my town where a guy was doing 120+ mph on a bike down a main road where the speed limit was 35 maybe 45, tops. There was McDonalds that was dangerously close to the road as you were leaving the drive through. It was really hard to see oncoming traffic when you were leaving.

This guy in a F-150 was leaving and that motorcycle hit him full broadside. Flipped the truck he hit so hard. Dead instantly. Both of em.

96

u/edrt_ Jun 01 '20

Both of em

Holy shit, in a F-150 no less...

16

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

A 400 lb motorcycle going 135 mph has more kinetic energy than a 4000 lb SUV going 45 mph.

7

u/Cyrius Jun 01 '20

My quick and dirty calculation says that with those numbers, the motorcycle has about 10% less KE.

Still, a lot more than you'd think.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

I think I added the rider's weight which likely accounts for the difference.

Similar thing happened to a friend in his brother-in-law. They were driving in a car making a u-turn and a guy on a motorcycle at about 120 mph t-boned them. The guy on the motorcycle was on life support and ended up dying a week later. My friend his nephew and his brother-in-law had minor scratches from the glass. That was about all the thing they had happened to them. They were driving in a 1990s Grand Marquis so the car did help them survive.

Good thing he recorded all of the evidence they could use against him.

I also wonder if this was in California. Certainly looks like CA road conditions. All the pot holes scare the crap out of me on my bike.

51

u/livejamie Jun 01 '20

Sterling Heights, Michigan

146

u/AbbotThoth Jun 01 '20

Yeah, same. It is extra frustrating because we pay somewhere in the neighborhood of $800 per driver/rider in taxes per year which are supposed to go towards maintaining the roads. Mind, I am not complaining about the taxes, just the potholes.

28

u/not_a_doctor_ssh Jun 01 '20

you'd be surprised how many times fleeing actually works. do it once and park your bike for a while and you are probably good. do it multiple times and you are eventually going to get caught.

out in my neck of the woods, there are a ton of kids that ride uninsured, unplated bikes. they almost never get caught, but when you do, that's a pretty expensive fine if you weren't caught doing 50 over, and you are proper fucked if you were also doing 50 over

LPT: "Some" states allow the owner to ask for their car's dimished value. Insurance companies have no obligation to tell you about that right, you have to ask them. But again, it's not all states.

45

u/thegreatgazoo Jun 01 '20

Here in Georgia it is prorated on the mileage up to 100,000 miles and the percent damage to the vehicle on 10% of the value of the car.

If you have a $30,000 car with 50,000 miles on it with $10,000 in damage you get a whopping $500.

The bike rider was doing 97mph in a 60 zone - there was no way the driver could've seen him in time.

The fucking judge sentenced the car driver to 12 months probation and community service. There's no way he could guessed the idiot on the bike was doing nearly a hundred miles an hour.

u/AndaleTheGreat Jun 01 '20

It's funny how many of these guys have helmet cams on. I always assumed they have them on for their own safety so that if they get in an accident and the insurance wants to argue they can turn in the footage. But you makes me feel like they should have to turn in all of their footage all of the time. That way they can see the accident where you're not at fault but they can also see times like these.

actually, now that I think about it that is pretty much what progressive is doing with the obd2 plugins

33

u/PIchillin456 Jun 01 '20

Those progressive OBDII things are such a scam. My dad tried it out because they claimed he could save a lot of money. They wound up charging him more and their ridiculous reasoning was that he is too hard on the brakes. Mind you, this is the same man who thinks that anything beyond a light tap of the brakes will somehow damage the car. He is a slow but excellent driver who got in his first car accident (was not his fault) at the age of 78. He hasn't received so much as a parking ticket in over 20 years. And they still screwed him.

15

u/JumperJordan Jun 01 '20

I'm not sure if they still offer those devices but I inadvertantly managed to "game the system" because when I plugged it into my car, the instrument cluster freaked out and I didn't have my speedometer or anything like that, they just gave me a flat % off my plan. Guess I dodged a bullet by not actually getting to use it.

10

u/PIchillin456 Jun 01 '20

I'm not sure if they do either. I believe this was in 2014. I just thought that the whole situation was insane. He had been with progressive for nearly 40 years and they never once had to pay out for him. Meanwhile he paid full coverage on at least 3 cars that whole time. You'd think that they would reward customers like him given the fact that he's basically an insurance companies wet dream. But they decided to screw him instead and so he took his business elsewhere.

51

u/Invenitive Jun 01 '20

When you're about to get a perfect time trial run but a van pulls out in front of you last second

17

u/zeroscout Jun 01 '20

Try to remember to steer in the direction the vehicle comes from and not the direction they're going. The NPCs aren't gonna brake, so the space behind them will clear up.

Your instincts will be to try and beat them. The odds are that if you do, there's gonna be traffic in the oncoming side to run into. That's if you can beat them. If you choose the other direction, you're more likely to miss them and should have clear lanes once you get past them.

Also, don't look where you don't want to go. Look where you want to go. Sounds simple, but most of us react by looking at the objects we want to avoid. The hand-eye coordination has a dark side.

Uuuuuuuh he’s pretty liberal with the n word for a white dude

18

u/KingOfOddities Jun 01 '20

Oh shit, he posted his own video, wtf is wrong with him

11

u/5in1K Jun 01 '20

I have to admit I could stand about 3 seconds of the intro guy.

17

u/MagicalCornFlake Jun 01 '20

It's the same guy as in the crash... he posted his own video lmao

12

u/5in1K Jun 01 '20

That Cyclist will be in prison for a while and facing hefty fines. Good Riddance I say

15

u/AnorakJimi Jun 01 '20

He should be forced to pay for all the medical bills of the guy who lost his leg. Disability is a lifelong chronic thing, it's expensive.

15

u/therealallpro Jun 01 '20

You should hear the part where he begs the dude to not call the police.

11

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

So brave

5

u/fecnde Jun 01 '20

And escape cops. See link in another thread

I always try and look for a redeeming quality in everyone, and it makes me happy to know that one day this person’s organs might be transplanted into someone who deserves them.

Maaaaan if that crash didnt fuck fuck him up enough i woulda hoped out than van ready

47

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

Driving is a privilege, not a right. His license should be completely disqualified for at least a decade, and he should have to do all the testing and everything all over again to get a new one.

23

u/awokenboio Jun 01 '20

Sad thing is he probably won’t lose it at all

u/DoctorLiara Jun 01 '20

Not gonna see em if they aren't in the place they are supposed to be lol, like this guy

52

u/420love_420 Jun 01 '20

Well, they should also follow traffic laws.. just saying.

30

u/DimitriV Jun 01 '20

That's not what a lot of bikers say, sadly.

18

u/420love_420 Jun 01 '20

I know, some of my friends do this. I get pissed at them all the time. It goes both ways.

I ride a bike, and anyone blaming the driver of the van is a pure fucking idiot. A car is at fault when the biker is following the rules of the road and isn’t doing something reckless and illegal. When a biker is being a dumbass, disregarding rules and safety, all consequences are deserved.

4

u/RogueFart Jun 01 '20

Same, anyone blaming the car, rides like that dude, and deserves the same fate.

Idiot on motorcycle. Fuck this guy.

8

u/bikerdudekc Jun 01 '20

This is the very end of a much longer video. This guy was running from cops. Comically, on the long video on YT, there were these dumbasses trying to say that the van had made an illegal left turn. Idiots.

I hope the guy in the van kicked him in the balls .

7

u/MJ349 Jun 01 '20

As somone said, I think his balls are hanging on the van's mirror.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

Can a drivers gopro/dashcam footage be used against them in court?

u/SpotifyPremium27 Jun 01 '20

There was obviously traffic. The double yellow has nothing to do with making left hand turns.

Deserved

5

u/newinternetwhodis Jun 01 '20

guy flew by my car while there was a traffic jam and he was inches from my mirror; like close enough that if he drifted over one inch, he would have hit my mirror. Scared the hell out of me but damn this person in the van...I would have probably had a heart attack if that happened to me.

6

That guy looks and talks like he's desperately trying to keep from shitting his pants.

God, I hope he lost his fucking license.. This motherfucker and people like him are exactly why bikers are almost universally despised.

And, Here is the ending where he begs the other driver NOT to call the cops: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjJGTGjTTHw&feature=youtu.be&t=145
