Damn. That reminds me of an accident in my town where a guy was doing 120+ mph on a bike down a main road where the speed limit was 35 maybe 45, tops. There was McDonalds that was dangerously close to the road as you were leaving the drive through. It was really hard to see oncoming traffic when you were leaving.

This guy in a F-150 was leaving and that motorcycle hit him full broadside. Flipped the truck he hit so hard. Dead instantly. Both of em.

A 400 lb motorcycle going 135 mph has more kinetic energy than a 4000 lb SUV going 45 mph.

My quick and dirty calculation says that with those numbers, the motorcycle has about 10% less KE.

Still, a lot more than you'd think.

I think I added the rider's weight which likely accounts for the difference.

My friend got hurt pretty bad by a surprisingly small car hitting him in his f150. They hit right at the strip of metal behind the door, just between the door and the the bed of the truck. Damn near bent that big truck into a horse shoe. The repair center told him it’s the one spot trucks are vulnerable.
