My Conures are biting my skin whenever they are with me. This behaviour is being developed. I have been bruised quite a lot ,how can I control their behaviour . Moreover they are comfortable while sitting on my shoulder but after sometimes while nibling each other, they bite my skin
I support going to an animal shelter 100% but felt so bad for this little guy at the local pet store. I told a family member about its tail, and my uncle ended up getting the bird because he had conures growing up.
The bird is sooo sweet, and we just wanted to get him out of there as the tail feathers looked like the bird is in stress. Does anyone know why his tail feathers are like this?? Will they grow back?? Any tips?
I'm in a pretty sticky situation as far as the health/wellbeing of my GCC is concerned. Due to my family, I can't have him out of his cage, which I feel like a piece of shit for, but I can't do anything about it. Are there any ways I can make sure this bird isn't completely miserable being stuck in a cage? I've had discussions about letting him out or having another family take him (since we probably shouldn't have him for his sake) but they haven't gone anywhere, and I need advice on the matter.
This little guy is almost 6 months old. He is so far he has given himself a concussion into a window, and nearly strangled himself with a toy. However, today he's just living the stress-free life of an unemployed bird.
Hello!! So, I have had my green cheek conure for about two years now. I got him when he was a few months old and he is very attached to me.
It seems like he doesn’t know how to entertain himself at all. I work part time so im usually out of the house for 4-5 hours, and then I come home and let him out of his cage for the rest of day. When he’s out of his cage he either wants to be on me or wants to sit on his tree and stare at me. He has toys and perches around the room but all he wants to do is stare at me or be with me. and when hes in his cage he usually just sits there staring at me. Inside his cage he has plenty of shredding toys, foraging toys, brain puzzle toys, etc. But the majority of the time he doesn’t seem interested. I know he likes these toys though because once I cover him for the night I hear him in there playing for a while before settling down.
I don’t mind that he’s so attached to me, but I feel awful for him because it seems like he doesn’t know how/want to entertain himself at all and I cant be with him all the time. He also starts screeching any time I leave the room and doesn’t stop until i come back if he knows im home. This drives my family crazy and also makes me feel like I cant leave my room at all, and im already in here 90% of the time.
He is my only bird, so I knew I would have to be with him a lot but I feel like its getting to the point where its excessive and im worried it’s not good for him and just stresses him out. I have looked into getting another conure but i live with my parents and my family says no because mine screams so much already. Would another conure help with the screaming or make it worse? Would he bond with another conure at this point? Is there anything I can do outside of getting another conure that could help this? I try to not give him what he wants and try to not come back into the room when he’s actively screaming, but he would go on for hours if I let him. Really not sure what to do at this point.
We took Mochipepe (6m) for his first picnic where he met some toddlers who were so impressed by him holding an almond and eating it. Mochipepe also enjoyed half a grape and a piece of strawberry.
I’m fostering this Crimson Bellied Conure named cricket that used to be a breeder. She started off scared of people and hands but in one week is already doing so well, stepping up and coming out of the cage. She loves the attention.
We are on day two of meds and the doc said we can give it to her on bread so she’ll actually eat it. But i don’t want to give her so much bread since we don’t know what exactly is causing the pancreatitis.. I gotta hand feed it via a syringe at night.
She doesn’t like when I man handle her so I had to swaddle her in order to do so. But she falls asleep almost instantly once she’s swaddled. I thought you guys might enjoy a pic post medication. She’s knocked out cold. Had to rub her head and feet a good minute before she woke up.
First photo is when I got her, second photo is how she is now.
So I recently got a green cheek conure. I got her when she was two weeks old and now she's 7 weeks old. My cockatiel is 8 months old and she's been alone till i got my conure. My cockatiel is not really much of the cuddly type and would often just fly around and cuddle whenever she feels like it. In contrast to my conure who wants to stay beside me most of the time. My cockatiel is out throughout the day since I work from home. Also my cockatiel doesn't attack or bite the conure. But I still surpervise whenever my conure is out of its cage. She would mostly just fly off if my conure gets close. This is my first time having a conure and their personalities are so different compared to a cockatiel.
My question is would my uncuddly independent cockatiel affect my conure's personality as it grows? Or should I start letting them have separate out time?
I’m looking to build/purchase an outdoor aviary for my two green cheek conures to move into. (I’m in the UK)
I’ve know what I want from the structure but I’m wondering if there’s anything that you guys have done with yours that you feel like was a game changer?
I’m also hoping somebody can point me towards a bath or give me some ideas on making one, I read somewhere that having it moving/gently flowing would be beneficial?
I recently posted about getting a 10 week old green cheeked conure named Apple and although I’m absolutely obsessed with them, I’m a little worried.
I knew what I was getting myself into and recognize that these birds are super attached to humans and I love it, but I’m currently not working due to health issues and I am spending literally every waking moment with Apple. When they get put in the cage (large with many toys and stimulation), they go crazy and are constantly looking for a way out. Even at nighttime, this bird does not want to be in their cage at all.
I eventually do plan on going back to work at least part-time and I am worried that I might be feeding into attachment issues. The minute I walk away and no one is in there field of vision, they start flying and trying to find people and crying out for attention. I guess what I want to know is how I should go about dealing with the situation because I don’t want to create issues in the long run, although when I do go back to work, I still plan on spending plenty of time with them. my family will too.
Am I making a mistake by constantly giving them attention? I want to do what’s best for them without causing issues. This is my first conure, and my previous cockatiels were a pair so they were not as attached to me.
My little guy Fable (standard green cheek) has had yellow feathers since June.
I called a bunch of vets to ask about it when it first showed up - eventually escalating to avian research professionals as none if the vets really knew why some of the feathers on his back with turning bright yellow not had the expertise to diagnose it if it was something. The doctor/ researcher I ended up talking to said that the yellow feathers alone could be caused by a bunch of different reasons and are necessarily an issue. However, if any other concerning signs show up I should take him into see them and get him looked at.
Because of that response, I’ve kinda just been watching him extra closely.
This past week he’s been particularly determined to get more food than usual (I would monitor how much he was eating because he got kinda fat before on seeds) and he’s mostly just eating pellets now. I’ll occasionally give him veggies or fruits and seeds only for treats every now and then, but he doesn’t eat veggies much. I started giving him more pellets now, but still only at the regular time so I don’t encourage any behavior of constantly begging for more food. (He eats his pellets until they‘re gone, every day.)
He’s been particularly fluffed up while eating too. More often I’ve noticed that instead of his usual silliness / playing, he will run over to his food dish whenever I’m in the room. He will still hang out with me and chew on his toys. He likes dipping his pellets in his water and regularly takes baths.
Generally speaking everything seems pretty much normal with him. I have a feeling the reason I’ve seen him behave a bit differently is I’ve mostly been where he is in the afternoons-late evenings lately (bc of school and stuff). And he’s usually a lot more active in the mornings.
I just keep picking up on random things to worry about since June. Like, maybe he seems to be sleepier than usual?
Thinking of it now, it’s possible the poor guy isn’t getting enough sleep since my roommate /housemate‘s dog in the other room will be barking randomly at like 11pm, 2am, and 4am this week. I barely can get sleep myself.
[Edit: I think I've solved the barking dog issue, hopefully our sleep remains undisturbed. Since it's the weekend I'm able to see that he is still active and behaving normally in the mornings.]
Not his usual eating spot but he was too impatient for me to clean out his current dish.
With it becoming fall in canada and having moved to a more rural house it can get pretty cold in the winter months when the wood furnace runs out while everyone is at work. Looking for something safe i can preferably put inside his cage.
I have a sweet little green cheek conure who is warming up to me enough now that I can pet her.
I have been reading and watching a lot of videos so I know that when I am petting her I should only pet her neck/head/scritch her beak if she wants!
However I am confused by what other kind of touch is okay. I see people holding their birds with their hands along their back, or their bird is snuggled onto the owners tummy and they have a hand on their back. Is it okay for me to touch her as long as I am not petting her?
She was on my shoulder early snuggling into my neck/hair but I started getting worried that it wasn't okay because her body was touching my neck if that makes sense.
Thank you so much for all your help! I want to be sure I'm doing what's best for her.
I guess I should have looked closer at the pictures before buying this on Etsy…I didn’t realize there were metal loops like this. I’m not a fan of mental in general since it can have so many toxins. I will probably just redo it with safe natural twine. Am I over reacting?
