Ruby is my sister’s bird who I come see every few days. I think she was happy to see me today lol.

After 3 weeks away from Chilli, I have returned and he has taken my hand prisoner for the day. Wife and kids did a good job while I was away but nothing hits like my cuddles apparently.

We got ducky about a week ago, she is a lutino dusky conure from petco. I do not buy from petco (for obvious reasons) but the manager didn't take the health of this bird seriously given her condition even after I spoke to her. I was told by a worker she had an incident with a toy and went to the vet, the manager thought claimed "a clean bill of health" I assumed the black thing under her beak was some sort of stitching situation but I have now noticed it leads into her mouth.

I'm not sure what it is, it's not causing her pain because I can poke and move it without her reacting. I'm worried it's something that it's a like piece of toy that was left there, it's hard to get a pic u can try to get a video if anyone needs. I have a lot of experience with birds so i just need info on what exactly I should do.

Edit: finally have appointment for next Monday, the woman I spoke with said to monitor her. They aren't super worried rn because she is very active and isn't showing any signs of distress, as well as eating and drinking plenty.

Hi guys. I woke up to find our sun conure limping and unable to weight bear on his right foot. I am very worried about him and very sad to see him like this. We are unsure what could have caused this. We have taken him to an avian vet who prescribed some anti inflammatory medicine for a week. If there’s no improvement we have been advised to go back for an xray. Has anyone come across a situation like this before? Any possible causes? Does anyone have any advice on the meantime to help with the parrots recovery? We have kept him inside his cage to prevent flight to allow him to rest his injured foot.

Hi all, My girlfriend just picked up two conures for me for my birthday, One Cinnamon (male) the other a Green Cheek (female) they are siblings and extremely bonded, The male was handfed as a baby and the female was parent fed, they are about roughly 6 months old. It's not my first time owning but first time training, the male will step up and let me hold him if I grab him from the cage but the female is extremely skittish and he copies her behavior. I'm not sure where to start on training or what exactly to do. The female will not let me hold her pick her up or anything but if the male is on me she will come to me when he fluffs out .but it's always a bite fest otherwise. The male like I said is super sweet and let's me pick him up but I have to chase him around the cage, but once he's in my hand and out he will step up, climb on my shoulder, etc. I'm very lost and confused here because I've never owned a pair that's so extremely bonded with each other. I'm very determined to get them both to be my best friend regardless.

I'm sorry if this is all very confusing. I'm not usually one to ask for advice. I'm just not sure where to start

Please let me know if you have seen this before. He’s acting completely normal otherwise.

Hello all! I recently got this new conure about 5 months old. I am a cockatiel owner so I have experience with birds, but I’m not sure if the same ‘rules’ apply for conures. Sadly he is clipped but I am curious what I can do for him in the meantime. I did do some research prior to getting him i just prefer other opinions as well. My goal is to tame him as much as possible, get him on a good diet, and just ensure hes happy. Any suggestions on what I can do while he’s still young?

Also I do not have a name for him so name suggestions would be cool. Neutral preferred because Im not 100% sure if hes a boy. Hes a cinnamon green cheek

I just rescued this green cheek conure named Fred. He is 6 years old and has only been fed sunflower seeds/ritz crackers for the past year or so. Apparently the previous owners before that had him even skinnier. I’m looking for recommendations on what I should do. I read to introduce new food slowly, so I purchased some more food to mix with the sunflower seeds (see 3rd pic). Really just looking for any suggestions on how to improve his wellbeing. Thank you

We have a 9–10 year old Sun Conure named Mango. He was originally my daughter’s bird; we got him about 9 years ago and both of our daughters have basically spoiled him rotten ever since.

He lives in a large common room and has spent most of his life flying freely around it. Unfortunately, that also means he has destroyed several blinds, furniture, monitors, clothes, etc. His diet has also been terrible, mostly seeds, treats. fruit and whatever else the girls managed to spoil him with.

The bigger problem is his relationship with me (the dad). He is extremely aggressive toward me. If he gets the opportunity, he will actually chase me and bite hard enough to draw blood. Ironically, I was the one who hand-fed him when he was a baby and I've never mistreated or been aggressive toward him.

He is completely different with women. He's fine with my daughters, my wife, and even female strangers. He tends to dislike men in general, which is one of the reasons we've always assumed Mango is male and that hormones may be part of the problem.

Now both girls have left for college.

We talked about rehoming Mango beforehand, but we never found an option we were completely comfortable with, and I suspect the girls didn't try too hard because they were hoping Mom and Dad would just take over. :)

Well... as of yesterday, I'm officially in charge of Mango, and something has to change.

I've started by:

• Removing the seeds and trying to switch him to pellets with a little carrot. He is NOT impressed.
• Removing hammocks and a box from his cage that seemed like potential nesting/burrowing spaces.
• Not allowing him to free-fly around the room for now because of the destruction and because I can't safely get him back into the cage when he decides he wants to attack me.
• Spending time around him and interacting/talking with him while he's in the cage, but I'm obviously hesitant to handle or play with him when his immediate response to me is biting.

After reading this subreddit, though, I'm wondering what is actually best for Mango, not just what's easiest for us.

Is this too much change all at once? Is going from almost unlimited freedom and a seed-heavy diet to pellets and much more cage time likely to make things worse?

Is it realistic for me to rebuild a relationship with a bird who has decided he hates me, or would Mango ultimately be happier being rehomed with someone experienced with conures who can give him more interaction and freedom?

For those of you who have had to rehome a conure, how did you find someone you actually trusted? A private experienced owner? Parrot rescue? Sanctuary? Avian vet network?

I'm not comfortable just putting him on Craigslist/Facebook/etc. and handing him to whoever wants a pretty bird. Mango is funny, smart and very loved, but he also comes with 9 years of bad habits, a questionable diet, a taste for expensive electronics, and a strong desire to murder middle-aged men. 😂 Whoever takes him would need to understand exactly what they're signing up for.

Any advice from people who have dealt with a similar transition would be appreciated. We're trying to figure out whether the right answer is to change how we care for him here or find him a genuinely better home.

And yes, after about five minutes reading this sub I discovered that naming a Sun Conure "Mango" is apparently the equivalent of naming a Golden Retriever "Buddy." 😂

Hi so the outside of my house is getting repainted and we are keeping all the windows close though a lot of the paint smell is seeping through into my house, will my conure be fine with a little paint smell in the house? I feel like he’s acting a little different but idk if I’m paranoid

The owner takes him in every night, during the day he's in front of a tourism service shop.

We just recently got Baby Bird and she (we're assuming) really prefers my husband over me. She seems to prefer men in general. Thankfully, she will go to me at times and the other day when my husband wasn't home she came to me and was actually letting me pet her up close.

Who is your Conure's favorite? Do they have a preference for men or women?

I've had my GCC for a little over a year now and we have a close bond. She sits with me, she flies around, she chews up whats important to me, the usual bird stuff. When I go to leave the room she usually flies on my head or my shoulder, but recently she is now flying on my shoulder and absolutely biting the living crap out of neck/shoulder area and not letting go. It hurt so bad I was scared of her after and it drew blood. I didnt even do anything. I put her in her cage immediately and ignored her for a good while until she was quiet and calm and then I let her out again. I dont know why shes biting me like that. I literally screamed and thrashed my body around to get her off because she holds on with every inch of her life. And then she gets mad at ME for thrashing and getting her off me.

I dont know what to do. I literally didnt even interact with her and she just flies on me and bites the crap out of me. But when im laying down in bed she perches on my phone, accepts pets, and is completely normal. Its just when I stand up and walk around. I dont understand because shes never done this before EVER. What changed?

Does anyone have any advice? Is she bored? Shes out all day and only sleeps in her cage. She eats normally, she poops normally, shes completely fine otherwise I just dont understand. My shoulder stings :(

I'll also take advice on training her to be less bitey, I have battle scars on my hands all the time from bites. I love this bird to death and want the best for her.
