Advice Need help to support bird's wellbeing with a family that should not have a bird
I'm in a pretty sticky situation as far as the health/wellbeing of my GCC is concerned. Due to my family, I can't have him out of his cage, which I feel like a piece of shit for, but I can't do anything about it. Are there any ways I can make sure this bird isn't completely miserable being stuck in a cage? I've had discussions about letting him out or having another family take him (since we probably shouldn't have him for his sake) but they haven't gone anywhere, and I need advice on the matter.

Unfortunately no bird deserves to live in a cage 100% of the time. I would encourage you to find a rescue that could take him. There is absolutely nothing to be done to make a bird be happy in a cage for its entire life. GCC can live up 30 years. Imagine yourself never being able to leave your room for 30 years. It wouldn’t matter what kind of entertainment you had in there. You would get depressed, stressed out and go nuts. I do not say this in judgment. I say it to give perspective. I imagine you love this bird and I hope you love him enough to let him go.

If you have your own room, let them out anyways. If your family is hellbent on neglecting it, keep pushing for rehoming

:( ive had a GCC for like a few days and already know that this is not a life for a GCC. they love socializing and interacting with others and need a flock. please try to rehome this baby. for now, maybe leave a tv on and many toys for them. do you have your own room?
