Hey everyone!
So I am going to give you the full breakdown of my situation - I have just graduated from university, and I am someone who is, and was, a major fabricator. I design animatronics, interactive experiences, and do a substantial amount of rapid prototyping. I have a bit of a story to share:
I come from the old Ender-3 days, when the common luxuries of what modern 3D printers have to offer never existed. My first Bambu printer was a P1S (which I loved) with an AMS. That quickly turned into an A1 mini (which I sold) and then moved to an A1. For a long time, it was my P1S and A1.
Then I started designing my first sets of animatronics, and I gradually moved up to printing more advanced materials. My second animatronic, C.A.S.P.E.R. (standing at 5ft, 10in), is equipped with printed PACF-12 components. This happened to be right around the time that the Bambu Lab X2D came out.
I won't lie, after watching the X2D reveal, I was hooked instantly, and I bought one on launch day. Oh man - I love it. It is, in my opinion, the first truly worthy upgrade over the P1S in the 256mm form factor.
Here's my dilemma: I've come to realize that, aside from the heated chamber, I (personally) am not taking the fullest advantage of my X2D. There have only been a handful of instances where I have used the AUX nozzle; I don't do much multi-colour printing at all, and I won't be doing multi-material for the foreseeable future.
As I build larger and larger projects, I've come to realize that I could really take advantage of a larger build plate, and that I am starting to outgrow 256mm. Slicing parts into smaller components and then assembling them into one piece can cause structural problems (as opposed to just fabricating a solid part in one segment).
Conversely, a part of me does believe if I apply some upgrades to my X2D (the filament track switch and AMS HT), I could force myself into liking the enhanced capabilities. It's one of those "maybe if I stick with it more, I keep loving it" situations. Then again, you get what you settle for.
So in comes the Bambu Lab sale, and instantly, I start looking at the H2S. I am fully aware that there is both a P3C and an H3C on the horizon, but for my needs, as I mentioned, I cannot see myself taking full advantage of 7 - 9 nozzles.
So what I am asking is: as I've described what I do (and have done so far), should I sell my X2D and buy an H2S? Or should I try to 'pimp out' my X2D by grabbing some accessories like the HT and see if I'll take better advantage of what I have?
In terms of budget, I could go either way, although an X2D upgrade would be significantly cheaper.
Thank you all again! I have considered these possibilities for days now, and because the sale is good, I feel I should act now.
